There is a feedback thread, which probably gets a regular scrubbing because shit’s kinda “complicated...” complicated in that euphemistic way in which we try to handwave at depravity... :D

    Killinger's Kustoms/GCI Toys

But this is a finished product, so you should be fine if he gets it in stock.

Hrmmm... well, as I have yet to hear back from them, I suppose I will continue to wait.

Edit: no, his reply was in my junk mail. "Hopefully, soon" I'm told.

So, to those of you who have the US Monstructor colored version...

1.) Does the gold plastic look like the type that'll hold up, or crumble like the G1s and G2s of the past?

2.) People say there are fixes, which ones? I'm assuming the leg locks so they don't break like the Dinoking version does and the springs in the one bot?

@TFXProtector Nearly all of the "gold plastic" is gold paint on beige plastic.

I haven't completely disassembled the figure but the only parts that might actually be gold plastic are the legs and the beast head on beast-ichi (the black torso bot). Even the parts to the side of the beast head, with the red "gills", are actually painted over beige (one of them popped off while I was messing with it and I was able to see the back side of it, so there's no doubt for those two pieces, also it popped right back in and is very secure so I've no idea how it came out in the first place).

All the rest - feet and claws, the gold on all the other figures - is just paint.

But Hasbro got GPS sorted out years ago so I'd be surprised if it was a problem for anyone now.

    As for fixes, not sure?

But he says yes, they changed the springs so they do not break the legs in the video.

    BUMP!

    Back to this post:

I watched the JTI! video and I don't see a difference between this one and the one I bought. (I went with the Dinoking colored set, it was $50.00 cheaper.) Honestly, after having it in hand, I'm not having a bunch of trouble moving his knees. *knocks on wood* Maybe I'm missing something? Maybe I got lucky?

I'll be getting those... He needs assistance in standing.

Oooh. Glad to know what I'm looking for. I'll be stopping at Lowe's today.

I'm selling mine, no use for it. PM me if you're interested. (That goes for anyone who's looking for the ax for their recolor set.)

Worked for me. Took a major issue and turned it into a non-issue. I really, honestly love this set.

So for the folks who've had this for a while: care to offer some thoughts?

The molds, or this color? I can't speak to the colors as I bought the Dinoking original, but I can speak for the molds.

I think the set is unfairly hated in some circles. It's by no means perfect and the proportions are way off in a lot of ways, but it's a pretty solid combiner in the end.

    - The transformations are easy and smooth but do have enough steps to make it fulfilling. More akin to a Hasbro transformation and not at all infuriating like FP Menasor or MT Computron. (Well, more in the middle of official to 3rd party, I should say.)

    - The instructions (at least on my set) are pretty awful. You're better off watching EmGo's video reviews and his JTI! (Just Transform It!) playlist. He's very thorough and makes it all clear.

    - The figures are all Deluxe Class sized, maybe just slightly shorter than current Hasbro Deluxes. (Think closer to SS.) That's more for the arm bots, though, because the main torso bots are probably the biggest figures of the set.

    - Every piece can be integrated in beast, robot and combined mode. I love that. (Well, for the version you're buying they do. For the version I bought it comes with an ax that can only be used in combined mode.) Slog carries the feet on his shoulders as missile banks, Birdbrain can carry them on his back in beast mode and shoulder mount them in robot mode. The rifle breaks down into smaller hand pistols or mini rifles for the individual members.

    - They fixed Slog for the USG1 color release, so his knees no longer break. And it's that the ratchets break, not anything you can see or anything structural. If you're fine with a friction-based joint and don't care about the ratchets, you'll be fine. And that's only if you buy the version I bought. They've completely fixed this issue with the recolor. The spring was too big, caused too much tension and too much movement would finally force the ratchet(s) to break.

-Birdbrain's formation of the hips isn't the greatest. He should've been designed to widen the stance, but it's more that his hips slightly pivot away from the torso to form the hips of Monstructor/Dinoking, leaving the combined form with a ridiculously small waist and somewhat limited range of motion in the pelvic area. It's really noticeable when trying to pose him or finding a good stance for balance.

    - To compensate for those issues, I recommend you get sticky-backed rubber pads, trimmed to size and placed on the bottom of the feet. Once he has traction, he'll stand much easier and balance better. The smooth flat surfaces of the feet just want to slide all over the place and he tries to do the splits. (It's a cheap and simple fix. About $3.00.)

    - When completed, Monstructor/Dinoking stands about 12 inches, so he's just about eye to eye with Hasbro's combiners and scales correctly with them. His visual style is striking and feels a little out of place compared to Hasbro's designs. Though, that's more the fault of Hasbro simplifying everything rather than it being FP's rather detailed (therefore lovely) designs.

Honestly, while it isn't perfect, it exceeded my expectations and I'm really quite happy with the set. At first, I cringed at the thought of spending $300.00 on a set of figures, but it's nearly half off, shipping was free and I had some extra money on hand from selling off pieces of my collection, so I figured I'd buy myself an early Christmas present and I have to say I'm absolutely impressed and happy with my purchase.

Don't expect perfection, don't expect to hate them and as long as you're fine with them being middle of the road (across the board) you should walk away pretty happy. Besides, no one else is making this set and FP did a pretty good job. If I could go back in time and do it over again, I'd still go for it. I'm really that happy with the set, flaws and all.

Oh and the person who designed them must've missed the part about them being monsters. They're ugly enough, but doggone are they adorable. My wife loves them, she thinks they look silly. She's right.

That's an awesome reply @TFXProtector! Nice to hear a more glowing opinion/review on this. Yeah, the transformations are definitely a plus point (compared to those of the M3 guy...).

I do find the original Saurus to look nicer as a team: there's more coherence and somehow - judging from pics - the paint apps seem to pop out more. Man, might even still go for him (and I've had to de-ratchet FP Assaulter so I'm used to that issue).

    Thanks!

Hey, been thinking of getting this guy for myself with my Christmas money-is he worth grabbing?

Also, size comparisons with other transformers would be handy

We don't know if we're ever getting an official one, even though there was a proto head on Snarl at one point. If we do, chances are it'll be like Lio Kaiser.

So, if you want a fully original, all 6 member set, this is the one you want in either color.

Each figure is Deluxe Class size. They're about eye to eye with Prime Wars Trilogy figures and combined mode is about 13 inches tall. It's definitely a foot with a bit of wiggle room in the plus department.

At the price I paid, I don't really have any regrets. $300.00, shipped, is a good deal compared to the original MSRP. That said, it's a lot of dough to spend on toys in one swipe.

I recommend them, but I speak only for myself.

Loved this guy while I had him but after a while he just wasn't doing it for me mainly because the display plans I had for him weren't happening anymore and I found myself scared to pose and play with him for fear of breaking him. Investing in an iron factory catastrophe now and maybe buying the fansproject g2 guys while I'm at it

Make sure you go back a few pages and read about my tip to add nonslip pads on the bottom of the feet

Solves the biggest flaw of gestalt mode

    Aesthetics are purely your taste

Build quality is good, any flaws fixed

The design flaw is lack of locking tabs across the torso and lege. The nonslip pads solve half that

This is the weakest FP/MT combiner by far

Thanks everyone! Follow up question- how do I get the one with the axe, is that an exclusive from a certain site?
