    Gosh Shockwave looks so good!

Takara and Bandai are making it really hard to stick to my Star Wars only rule in the past few years.

I just wish his legs were a bit more poseable. After MP-36’s incredible leg articulation, I’m having a hard time with the fact that Shockwave can’t do a one legged kneel. :(

I’ll still end up getting this though, despite already custom painting a KO into a more toon accurate color.

Ah ok. I noticed the eye, but was curious if the actual/outer shape of the head was different.

...the more pictures i see of purple shockwave, the less i like him: i'm all into the dark purple, but the other changes are just too cartoony...i might consider a mash-up of the two toys once i have him in-hand...

MP29+ is going to be my final official line purchase. I always couldn't stand lavender shockwave, but I really dig the mold. Finally having a properly coloured shockwave on my shelf is going to be a real treat.

With the mild mess they've made of 17+ (and G1 MPs in general this year), I'm pretty sure 29+ will end up being my MP of the year. And that's not a bad thing at all.

(Though MP-36+ could steal that crown depending on how good he looks in-hand)

Haha yeah, he's still two months out but I think I've also already decided Shockwave+ is my figure of the year! I've also already decided that OPv3 is figure of the year for 2019 haha ;)

Haha definitely agreed there. OP-3 is probably my top figure of all-time, even since back when he was just a hope of ours!

This slow G1 pace gets frustrating, and then I remember that we're getting awesome toys of characters from a 35 year-old cartoon, and I become rational again :lol

Haha YES! Btw, how's the s2 viewing going? The '86 Movie re-release, the new BB trailers, and Prowl+'s release ahead of a wave of "+" releases have really added fuel to fire for me. OPv3 and Hound news can't get here soon enough! (let alone Shockwave+ ;)  )

It is all kicking off, isn't it? Hopefully Figure King scans surface in a few hours and ignite the flames haha
Need to get back into S2, taking my sweet time with it, but no doubt some new G1 MP news will pump me back up!

I'm really looking forward to seeing the exact shade of purple of 29+ in-hand. It's darker than 29's, which is a step in the right direction, and I imagine like 29 it'll also look quite different under different lights. Wonder if it can approach the almost reddish-purple that Shockwave had on my old G1 cassettes. Either way, consider my MP Shockwave boxes more than ticked.

So, is there (even a slight) consensus that 29+ really is intended to be the most anime-accurate version (so far)? Seems like it to me, but I want to make sure I haven't missed sone piece of crucial information. Gotta decide whether to sell my original MP-29, ugh.

MP-29+ seems very accurate to lots of episodes.

His hands and chest are a little too pink for many scenes, though.

MP-29’s colour is accurate to at least one or two episodes (@Dean ML knows which ones).

If you don’t like stickers, then 29+ is superior.

29 is quite accurate to the infamous comic cover - it was most certainly the reference for the size of his eye, which was never that wide in the cartoon. Unfortunately many comic fans don’t appreciate this, as he scales too small for them compared to MP-36.

I personally plan to swap over the chest and hands between my 29 and 29+. In the episodes I remember Shockwave had the darker colour, but the less pink chest and hands. This will actually make my 29 even closer to the colouring of the animation model, on which his colouring is based.

Thank you @Sam! That is a huge help. It certainly seems like the true toon accurate version is somewhere in the middle. Guess I've still got some considering to do...may wait to read the reviews on this one first to see how he is in-hand.

Knowing Takara, this will not be the last update to the mold. I'd wait.

I definitely don't see Takara doing another cartoon-accurate version of Shockwave. Ever. The original was supposed to be toon accurate, and now 29+ is even moreso. Any future repaints could be grey, or even darker purple with silver toy insignia. I think the former is unlikely, and the latter even less so.

There's still plenty of times where 29+ is very accurate:

Many where 29+'s body with 29's hands and chest would be better:

Original animation model (notice the pinker hands and chest):

Looking a little closer to 29's colour here:

Some people have had a lot of fun with gif making. This one is truly brilliant :lol

Yeah, some of those screen shots definitely make 29+'s purple look spot-on. Whenever I watch an episode with him in it he appears to be more muted, but I think that's down to the inconsistent remastering. This definitely matches The Movie better which I generally consider a tie-breaker, haha. Now if it only cost the same as the original, I would have far less hesitation.

Thanks again for the detailed info, as always!!

It's kind of too bad because I absolutely love the purple on MP-29, just as a color, even though it is inaccurate. But my collection only has room for one of each character at the moment, sadly.

I'm keeping both versions of Shockwave. Both are cartoon accurate, as @Sam pointed out, although the plus release matches the cartoon on more occasions. A bit like Hot Rod and AKOM Hot Rod, who I also both have.

One version of each character is a good rule. I am somehow ending up with a smaller cast, but multiple versions of each one. And the worst thing is, once I swap over parts between 29 and 29+, I'm sure I'll also want a regular 29+ as well. And then maybe a regular 29 also? How many Shockwaves is too many?

Yup, when the mould is as good as Shockwave there's nothing wrong with having doubles. Just keep one beside your bed as a night light :thumb
