It’s confounding they used the newer symbol. This release is a bit underwhelming. The elbows and the neck plate are black and the lack of paint on the gun barrel? Doesn’t make sense

 

Honestly, looks the same to me just bigger

I do believe that the lighting in those photos is making things look a lot less attractive.

As for the logo ...not sure what's up, but I can overlook it Ithink.

 

As someone who loves G1, and can't be bothered at all by Bayverse, surprisingly, I'm not too upset about the logo. But I'll reserve final judgement until it's in hand.

 

Isn't it just the cartoon insignia? Looks the same as mp12+ and the like to me.

I think it's just the bulge in the hood that's throwing things off in these pictures.

 

I think you’re right. Comparing it to the original it looks wider at the top

 

I double-checked and the + releases all seem to have the g1 style insignia.

 

Sideswipe at least has the cartoon style symbol with the narrower eyes and wider forehead crest.

 

As does red alert +, sunstreaker, the inferno and grapple toon chests, and the upcoming hound.

 

Looks awful imho... However if anyone wants to stay pure to the cartoon model and wants to sell those awesome shoulder launchers then pm me. :-D

As @JoshFinn has shown, it's the movie logo.

Honestly I couldn't care less about the shape of the head crest or how narrow the eyes are, what bugs me is the 'angry' eyes. Never liked that about the movie logo, and it has no place on a G1 MP. Which intern was put in charge of this release?

Might have to parts swap between 17 and 17+. Unless I can 'fix' the movie logo by trying to rub out his eye ridge to make it horizontal.

I dunno man, the pictures you just posted pretty clearly show it's not the movie insignia.
At least, to me.

 

The diagonal lines on the 'forehead' are longer and thinner like the movie ones, and the eyes definitely have an 'angry' angle to them at the top. It's very much not as noticeable in bot-mode shots where the insignia isn't seen from top-down, or from certain side angles (thankfully), but it's definitely a Bay logo.

 

Ah well, agree to disagree.

Edit: You make a good point about the diagonal lines. They do indeed seem to be longer.
However, the eyes definitely don't look as squinty as the movie insignia. There is still a bit of a vertical line by the nose.
The triangle on the forehead also has a curve instead of a straight line.

It seems kind of like a hybrid of the G1 toon logo and the movie logo. Fascinating!
