Been binging Overwatch World Cup on Twitch/Disney and I REALLY wanna play this game.

 

Overwatch got some serious recognition as Triple H awarded Overwatch League winners London Spitfire their very own WWE Championship with custom plates.

 

Firstly. What the fuck does WWE have to do with Overwatch? Thats the worse fucking prize ever. I’d forfeit if they tried to give me that.


Secondly. Overwatch is an international franchise that is played by players across the globe. If you think it’s more popular then WWE, you need a reality check.

Or, and someone suggested this on Twitter, Overwatch characters as WWE Superstars.

If only the former, then you can currently get it (on PC) for only $12 by subscribing to the Humble Monthly Bundle. You can unsubscribe at any point after you've claimed your game key if you don't want to incur the monthly $12, but you may as well wait until the end of the month and see if any of the other games for the month interest you.


I really do recommend the game myself. I've spent most of my life actively shunning the FPS genre, and don't tend to have much of a competitive attitude, so PVP games don't interest me, but the moment Blizzard announced the game I knew I had to jump in, and I've been having a blast ever since the open beta in 2015. I don't play it religiously, so as not to completely wear myself out, but I definitely succumb to "one more game" syndrome whenever I do decide to jump back in again, aided by the steady additions of new maps and characters to keep the experience fresh.

I really like how it offers something for FPS newbies and vets alike, with the heroes all offering up unique playstyles to cater to your personality. You're sure to find a character that you absolutely just fall in love with.

 

Right now it’s the latter; I don’t have a computer to use at the time.

 

Apparently the game is very good at scaling down, might be worth getting for $12 to try on whatever you can use and then just having it even if it doesn’t work for a future machine.

 

It used to scale down quite well, at least, although I'm not sure of the current state. I know a lot of additions made to the game since launch have made a bit of a mess of the finely-tuned optimization the game launched with, so there's been lots of players clamouring for a new optimization patch to clean up the game a bit.

But yeah, there's a ton of scalers in the graphics options, so the game can be made technically playable on some relatively ancient machines. As long as you can deal with craptastic resolution, and things like 50% render scaling so everything looks like a smeary blob on the screen  .

I wish I could get the money/time I spent on this game back.
Horrible balance, majority of the community is abusive. It's pretty to look at but more and more I cannot find myself enjoying playing it. Either having team mates that don't support one another or intentionally throwing just to piss people off.

 

Gotta say I’m a bit disappointed after the summer games and the latest dev update.

Haven’t played since summer games ended and if the only pull to bring me back is 6 legendary skins per event then I’m afraid they’ve lost me. Absolutely not arsed about playing the same event for 3 years on the run.

I was under the impression the first year was the release, the second year was refinement, 3rd year was new exciting stuff.

Have no interest in OWL outside of seeing some cool plays on YouTube but if that’s where all their effort is going then I guess that’s that for now. Don’t want to sound like I’m sour, just burnt out after playing regularly since release and was hoping they’d bring something fresh to keep me engaged as I do love the universe they’ve built.

She looks great. It'll be great to get a character with more of an iron sight style aim instead of full-on sniping. That's always been my preferred method for shooters and it's something that the game has definitely been lacking.

And yeah, that character design is fantastic.

The robot girl at the end (Echo) is confirmed to be a hero in development. Just wasn't ready yet, but meanwhile, they were able to fast-track Ashe, who initially was only designed for this short, but her kit and aesthetic was simple enough that they were able to do a quick turnaround on it.
