On there being no room for a KB Toys...we in Canada dont have Target anymore, so perhaps thats also a consideration. Walmart and TRU are still the go-to toystores. But we lost Sears, Eatons, Target, Zellers...between TRU and Walmart most angles are covered in toys.

Unless the prices in the other stores are significantly lower, I wonder why there wouldnt be enough room for a third operator. But then, here our TRU is also expensive most of the time...Walmart close second, but both have regular sales.

You lost Zellers?! Ah man, I got a cheap Gundam Ramba Ral and Gallop from them way back when.

Yeah I think KB thought it'd be easy to jump back into the toy market but it has changed so drastically that there may be no profit in it unless you're already in the game.

As for Toy City, I looked up job listings just for fun and they only list Halloween City job openings. Found out they're combing Halloween City and Toy City together. Guess it was the only way they could get it up and running so quickly.

Target took over Zellers, renamed it into Target Canada, then backed out of the Canadian market entirely after just a few years.

Wow, that sucks. At least TRU still lives up there. Plus their Walmarts seem to be a little bit better than ours (though that may not be saying much).

Possibly, but nothing like another toy chain and certainly nothing as big as a Party City. Plus it seems like Toy City may have been something Party City had in the planning stages for awhile, TRU closing just expedited things.

Already got two Halloween stores in my town: Spirit Halloween and Halloween City.
Target's prices are only a few dollars or so higher than Wal-Mart's...
I don't think they had anything to do with that.
Didn't their last announcement involve recruiting and hiring staff, mainly giving ex-Toys'R'Us employees the first chance at jobs?
Are you serious?! Ugh, Halloween stores are so stupid and combining a toy store into one makes absolutely no sense.

...probably just a seasonal lease rollover for two more months with a stock and sign changeout the first week in november; i doubt they'll push both brands simultaneously...

Their Walmarts look pretty decent, like ours did about 10 years ago, until just after K-B folded (can't wait to see how much worse they'll get now that they don't have TRU to compete with!) They're just a little behind the States is all.
Kind of like how the 80s didn't hit Canada until about 1992.

Why should anything happen to it? Those were always completely separate.

There were always doubts about whether the guy who was making those plans would be able to actually get things in place by Christmastime, and he's clearly running out of time, but none of that has anything to do with what TRU is doing.

No, no - a company bought the KB name and they're doing pop-up stores for the Xmas season.

But I guess TRU could also sell the name and someone else could bring it back? But then again, the CEO from Little Tykes tried to buy the TRU name and keep it alive, and the TRU lawyers outright refused his bid. :sly:  He and I agree: how is a "low" bid worse than getting nothing at all? TRU's management team is seriously messed up.

That means nothing. Until we see job postings or real info out there (not just plans), it's all speculation and just not true. Black Friday is next month. They would need people in place already. Not happening this year!

No body just opens up randomly on Black Friday, though, even with temporary locations. November 23rd is a month and a half away, if they are going to make that date I should think there would be more reports of confirmed locations and interviews for seasonal employees by now.

It's apparent they're working on KB Toys pop-ups, at least. Enough to give the benefit of the doubt that it will happen. And no, you don't start hiring for a pop-up two months out. That happens usually around 2 WEEKS out.
