All very true. Then again, I was responding specifically to the post stating the 35th Anniversary Prime looked 'as if it stepped directly out of the Sunbow cartoon.' Which it clearly does from ONE angle. Not so much from every other.

But why address that when it fits your narrative better to take it out of context?

And I love mechanical and vehicle parts on my Transformers. I like them even more when they actually transform using the real parts. Call me crazy.

I don't see it (the trailer/deathbed). There's certainly hinges and panels but looking at the top of the trailer, I don't see how it'd all fold flat to make the deathbed. I think those panels are simply openings to allow the turret to poke through.

But hey if it does turn into the deathbed, all the better, I guess.

But no-one is saying it isn't a spade, we all know what's happening but some accept that until mass shifting or good old magic becomes a thing then there's no other way to hit certain aesthetics. Don't like it then don't buy it. Easy.

Sure but you know what people mean when they say 'it stepped out of the toon' - the proportions, sculpt, details. Nobody thinks a real-life transforming, articulated figure actually looks exactly like the animation model, from any angle. The inevitable panel lines, joints, splits, etc are present from any angle and accepted.

But why address that when it fits your narrative better to take it out of context? ;)

Haha yeah I can see where your coming from but there’s still something that doesn’t look right and I think it’s mostly the arms - they look longer and bulkier in the animation, don’t you think? It just makes him look a bit weak, like he missed arm day at the gym or something.

I'm not here to decipher intent. If the OP of the original comment I quoted wanted to express something different, then they should have been more explicit. As is, this 35th Anniversary Op only closely resembles the cartoon from the front (not including the Yamato arms and wonky smoke stack placement). From the back, top and sides it is clearly a disjointed mix of pieces and parts all with the intention of making this toy look great from the front.

    And it does.

But I prefer my figures to be enjoyed from more than one angle. And that doesn't mean parts. I love WJ's Evasion Prime and it shows every part because they are supposed to be there. MP-36, MP Sunstreaker and this new Prime cheat in ways that look unpleasant to me.

You like what you like and I like what I like. Neither is wrong.

Ah you don't like Megatron? That explains a lot, this figure clearly isn't for you.

One thing to consider: Optimus Prime shouldn't have any visible vehicle parts in robot mode, since this is how he looked when he was created by Alpha Trion millions of years before Earth trucks were invented

    Here here!
I gotta say, I used to be vehemently against faux parts myself. But then I got MP36 and couldn’t put him down and I see what they accomplished with Sunstreaker and v3 Prime and it’s changed my opinion. I’ve realized it’s ok to use faux parts because then you can nail the look and proportions of both vehicle and robot mode and I can point to no better example than v3 Prime. Now I think there’s a time and place for faux parts and a time and place for real parts and I enjoy these figures a heck of a lot more.

Some bootleg company improves the figure by adding more cheats.

They look fine to me :) . There’s a fair bit of variation for sure but my yardstick when comparing 35th to the toon/movie is as follows: shoulder boxes notably smaller than the chest window area, and the tops of them set slightly lower than the top of the torso - check. Biceps just slightly narrower than the shoulders (not half the width like MP-10s) - check. Forearms pretty comparable to his thighs - check.

I think they got it just right. But if they were just slightly bigger I would still be thinking the same, and maybe he’d feel more right to you and other folk. Me I’m not complaining.

I don't really get the complaint about the "thin biceps". They actually look thicker than MP-10's and MP-10's look even thinner with it's gigantic popeye the sailor man forearms.

The turret opening is the most obvious feature of the trailer so we can check that box. The real mystery is what else is inside. I'm also looking at the back of the trailer, which I really like. I'm curious about which opening we'll get. The doors opening wide with a platform or just a platform itself which I think was seen more times than the opening doors.

I love WJ’s evasion Prime - it’s my Bay Movie MP Prime. But I also love my G1 MP and this is THE definitive G1 toon MP Optimus Prime. It’s ok to like both.

I’ll never get why people don’t like something but feel the urge to post about it incessantly. Surely you’d have better things to do with your time.
