I found it on Amazon.ca but there's no price because it says "currently unavailable." :(

I signed up to receive emails when it's available again.

FYI for those that pre-ordered on Amazon, you should check to see if you're order priced dropped to $101.61 by now. I read on the Bluray.com forums the listing changed and another listing was added (with new package art). You might want to cancel your previous order and just re-order it again to be sure. I did since a bunch of people did there.

RightStuf also has a preorder up. I might switch my order to them, as I trust their packing more.

They must be really trying to get rid of normal Batman mini pops, because they have actual BTAS mini ones, yet the normal minis are included.

Hmm, thanks, but actually it seems Amazon retroactively applied this reduced price to my order already, it is 101.6$ now when I check it under "My orders"
You mean the Batman TAS Heroclix minis? They are nice, I might pick up some. Heroclix for some reason goes super cheap on the secondary market, most of it is sold for 1$ or less save for the super rares. They even had Beyond characters like the Dee Dees.

Edit: NEVER MIND. Original post preserved below as evidence of my failure to do my research.

I'm falling behind on news for this Blu-Ray set. Does this Blu-Ray set actually feature remastered animation? Are the grains and dust cleaned up? Are there sample clips or images?

Considering the show was not animated or preserved under ideal circumstances, if there wasn't an extensive remastering process, I'm having trouble imagining how a Blu-Ray would look much better than an upscaled DVD.

Yes, they remastered the animation completely. And there are comparison pics posted on twitter in this thread.

Even if the remastering wasn't extensive, it would be an improvement. The master tapes had color channels that were out of sync by a frame or two in several episodes, creating a "ghost" effect that's not obvious on old CRTs, but definitely shows up on modern progressive screens. This issue is present in the DVDs and any other format sourced from the tapes.

Which is why they went back to the original 16mm film prints.

I'm pretty sure the main reason was to get more fine image detail than an upscale would have. The ghosting issues could be fixed fairly easily if they were upscaling--convert the image back to YUV colorspace, move the appropriate channel back or ahead by the needed number of frames. But since they're doing this properly and going back to film anyway, the issue doesn't even exist :)

I really hope this set does exceptionally well and encourages other companies treat their old high-end cartoons similarly despite the cost. We don't have this for Transformers because the animation fixes would have to be recreated digitally, or for The Real Ghostbusters for some similar reason. But the film sources for GoLion and Dairugger should be there, and Media Blasters was able to recreate the edits made for Voltron affordably for the DVDs. I'm sure there are others that could be (and deserve to be) restored, and maybe a few successful releases would change someone's mind about the cost of doing TF or GB...

Well the film sources for Golion and Dairruger would be on Toei, and they don't exactly care about their properties as it is. They even claim they no longer have the film prints for Sailor Moon.

I would need to see this for myself if the quality is indeed significantly better before I order the set.

They do happen to have the film sources for GoLion and Dairugger though. Those were scanned for the DVD remasters, which were then re-edited to create the Voltron DVDs (apart from the extra lion episodes).

Given that it's BD, it's already superior to the DVDs.

Pre-order available on .ca now and it's currently #1 on bestsellers to boot! An absolute steal at $112 CAD (so ~$86 USD with the current exchange rate).

I just pre-ordered with the quickness! Was peeved when the original dvd box set dried up and the aftermarket prices went insane (wasn't keen on buying the individual volumes) .
