Love it. This Prime is the one who doesn't give a shit anymore and will do whatever it takes to allow the righteous to survive. After thousands of years of fighting you would expect as much and I think that makes him more interesting than the common infalliable Prime.

Eh, I feel the opposite way. AoE Optimus is disillusioned from his ideals; after sacrificing the men who would risk their lives for him, the future of his race, and even the possibility of returning home time and time again to keep some "innocent" aliens safe from their war - after seeing them succumb to the wishes of those who would only destroy them - after they hunt down his loyal comrades like game, melt them down into their base metals, and turn them into bastardized, soulless mimics out of greed, he realizes he is to blame for all the pain his friends have gone through. Indeed he is changed - he understands his idealistic vision is an impossibility. To protect what's left of his family no matter the cost, he no longer puts blind faith in humanity. But over time, he learns to trust again. That against all of society, humans can still see value in Cybertronian lives and would fight and die for them just as his Autobots did. Yes, the human race as a whole does not deserve salvation, but it's all worth it for what they can be. His soul healed, he refuses to poison himself seeking vengeance, finds it in himself to forgive the humans, and sets out to save Earth one last time. (No, TLK didn't happen) Age of Extinction took Optimus to a darker place than any other fiction out there, and he never lost his way. And that, I can appreciate.

Conversely, AoE Optimus' design is lazy, unpolished, and nonsensical. Even ignoring the massive departure from his previous design, (let alone the INSURMOUNTABLE departure from anything resembling G1 Optimus (and this is coming from someone who hates rehashes and loves fresh change!)) this design abandons the notion of looking like a robot that goddamn transforms into a truck for... a humanoid mess of metal with Optimus Prime's head, wearing anime girl bikini armor? There's about 1% of the vehicle mode visible on his body, (and half of that has to break physics to distort into his pecs!) which aside from the shellforming toys, also lead to inconsistent, impossible to follow, painfully obviously cheating transformation sequences. The truck mode itself has a bountiful amount of round-yet-angular geometry, the knight armor could've VERY easily been changed to vehicle components, there's really just no excuse for it. The only positives I can give it are that his more human-like features might have made him easier to empathize with, and, *ahem* more... physically charming...

Your grief about a cheating transformation doesn’t fly anymore because it has been proven by toys like these that a transformation is possible...twice.

Except it's not just about the toys... it's about making a character design that visually communicates that the robot is also a truck...

While agreeing that AoE/TLK prime deisgn is quite good representation for new prime, he really indeed dont look like transformers for me atleast. Asfaik, transformers franchise focuses on vehicle that become robots, simple as that, thats why their design must be kept as a vehicular robots.

But i do accept this new design little by little.

It's one of those things that set Bayverse Prime apart from all other literature (until IDW's works) where Prime was seen as "just another alien" in the eyes of the Earth authorities. The bayverse just never captured the heart and spirit of the original series by painting all Cybertronians in the same "Anti-Alien Invasion, pro-GI JOE!" pattern as other bad scifi movies.

I'm really not trying to be argumentative, but ROTF Prime and LT02 are the same design. Prime was changed very little for DOTM.

the plastic it's quite inferior, but the rubber tires and the functional truck mode saves it

I have one and it is definitely prettier in some ways than the real MPM Prime thanks to some nice new paint apps. I'm not personally a fan of the solid black truck windows but that's about the only thing in the paint scheme that was a step backwards. The plastic quality is very good, not unlike HasTak. The rub for me is that while it definitely transforms better than the real one it's still not perfect and for me at least I still can not get it to lock together as solidly as I want.
