Didn't Nero Rex start as a Convention Exclusive? Even though it was available for a while I hope if they do another Exclusive Combiner they give a LOT of prior warning to allow saving up for it.

He was talking about the peg coming up from Swindle, not the port it pegs into. It is the jeep front bumper folded up. If there isn't a good release system it seem like it would be easier to break than a solid block peg.

 

I tried but gave up pretty early on, I’ll wait for a better version.

 

After seeing the beautiful alt mode of Vortex I just have to ask what's up with the stupid hump with the square peg on the belly of the copter?
If he uses the blue peg to combine with Onslaught, what's the square peg for?

 

Can’t explain the square hole in it, but the hump is an inherent part of the alt-mode—-that’s the helicopter’s surface-search radar. It’s a rescue chopper, so it has a dedicated “downwards-firing” radar to scan for stuff hidden among the waves.

 

Foot peg for combined leg mode?

 

So only toon accurate chest on the G1 version? Shit, well that's probably a deal breaker for me. Shame but I'll keep my eyes on this. Still impressed so far.

No surprise, they used the same molds with rippersnapper and cutthroat on Abominus. UT is super hit or miss for me.

 

I made it through Vortex, which was fine, but I couldn't see much of Onslaught's transformation. The portion that folds into Vortex' torso looks like it could possibly be kind of fragile/fiddly, but the way it transforms is insane. Onslaught's vehicle mode is phenomenal, and what I could make of the rest looks amazing too. Thanks for the video, I look forward to one of better quality if there is one. This is the upcoming set on the market that excites me the most, I wish it was closer to completion so I could get my hands on it quicker but I encourage MMC to take their time as they like to...I want this to be as good or better than Rex, and I'm pretty sure it's already well on its way there.

 

But he's an arm and they won't be scramble city.

 

Okay, I spent the last two hours re-recording and editing a traditional review. It's rendering and uploading now, so it will be posted first thing in the morning.

Btw when you said that their onslaught will get a toon style chest, did you mean for just the robot mode, or robot and combined mode?

 

If you look really closely, you can see that there's some pin hinges at the very bottom of that recess. So the square hole is probably for clearance for some transformation joint, possibly for the panels that open up to access the hand parts (since we've seen that they fold to the back, and that's where the radar hump will be).

 

Well the G1 toon chest was unique among all the version to be released, unless they do a Marvel Comics deco. If they kept the G1 toon chest for the others they wouldn't be accurate.

I considered that but I'm trying not to get my hopes up for Scrambling. Plus a foot that pegs in wouldn't be "all built in" so probably not.

If they intend to do previously mentioned redecos fully accurate it would have to be. Baldigus/Ruination scrambled in the cartoon, and Battle Gaia had the helicopter as a leg. Admittedly MMC has been known to sacrifice accuracy for repaints in the past (Reformatted Cyclonus) so they could just as easily skip it. Honestly I don't expect it to actually do it but I can't dismiss it completely.

 

They may do an Ox version which would have the toy chest, I believe. I'm not 100% sure though.

If they were aiming for complete accuracy to the other Bruticus variants, then they'd need to pretty much completely redo Blast-Off and Swindle. You could probably get away with just redecoing Vortex and Brawl, they're similar enough, but not 100%.

 

Well they are clearly redecoing Onslaught already. Swindle would have to be redone since he wasn't actually a Jeep but I think I could see Blast Off just being a small retool.

 

Yeah, you're right about Blast-Off, now that I think of it. His robot mode chest is on a revolving panel, and is not itself integral to his vehicle mode (it's on the backside of the shuttle canopy). So they could easily swap the 'toon chest plate out with a more toy-accurate one, and you could probably call it close enough.

So Swindle still remains the biggest offender in terms of creating a reasonably accurate Battle Gaia/Baldigus.

 

18" at the top of the head or top of the cannons?

 

Cant stop drooling at these guys. I thought I was done with UW Bruticus who I love but it looks like he is getting a very pretty twin.
