Or it'll be the next Walgreen's 2-pack after the Clones...

The weird thing about that is that physical prototypes with the different mask exist. It was definitely on display at some shows.

Then there's other instances of the renders being wrong: TR Rumble still having the Rewind head, CW Afterburner still having the Groove head. And most recently, the colors of PotP Swoop.

Love all these except Hunn-gar, it would not have taken much to improve one of the best g1 molds, but this design baffles me when they've been very slavish to the original designs lately.

It's too bad as he was one of my favorites growing up.

His updated design is simply the consequence of compromising between having a robot-mode, beast-mode and combined-mode, while following new design trends for combiners, including incorporating what was detachable armour pieces on the old G1 combiners into being actual parts of the new figures to minimise the amount of extra parts. And shifting things around so that kibble on the bots forming the limbs don't clash with pieces of the guy forming the torso, which means Abominus can't have his beast-head knees anymore, or else they'd clash with other beast-heads, turrets, car-fronts, plane-noses and what-not taking up space on the knees on the limb-bots forming his legs.

Exactly! This guy gets it. :)
All of the torso bots changed significantly from the G1 ones - even Silverbolt. Remember how the Ultra sized Silverbolt transformed almost identically to the G1 one? It was because he did not have to be a torso.

Given that we have seen reissues (Skrapnel) and mold-reuse (that leaked listing did show a pic of Outback, a Brawn remold) I would not rule out them releasing those two here, finally. Let's not forget, Buzzsaw came out in CW, before TR! Also, did we not see a Steeljaw when Blaster was released? Or was that just a Stripes proto?

Nah, we never saw Steeljaw. Looking at Stripes, I'd guess that he was originally going to be Steeljaw until it was decided that the mane wasn't big enough to make for a satisfying lion.

Hopefully more like the Rumble situation than Quickswitch. If it is, I don't buy that Wildfly's head was an accident anymore than I buy that the Hun-gurr slide not having the right head was an accident. I think Hasbro is upping their teasing game.

I hope so. No reason we can't see the deployers seeded in PotP either. They at least have Master compatible foot pegs.

Hun-grr has been modified to work with the current line wide gimmick of Voyager and Deluxe combiners. The downside of that is he has to obey the laws of physics so redesign was in order so that his legs could support the weight of three other Transformers.

...maybe they just realised that the mold sucked quintesson tentacles and cut their losses after ravage...

oh man, I have never owned a full combiner in my whole life.

I think this is going to be the first one I buy. I've always loved the wild designs from late G1. 80s style cyber beasts are just cool to me, much more exciting than cars and planes. :D  would you guess I loved transmetals and extreme dinosaurs growing up? oh man, I even get a street sharks vibe from the shark dude, so cool.

all of these guys look great in both modes, and all seem to have pretty decent possibility. so they all should be really fun as solo figures as well as in their combined mode.

on that combined mode, I think the torso is going to be great. I can see that the arms will become legs, which will give us a good silverbolt style crotch. as the combiner ports look to be at the knees, and the beast heads can fold into the legs, I think the legs will fold on either side of the torso, bulking out the figure and creating a great wedge shape. the purple accents and head look great too. it's gonna be a great torso mode I think.

honestly, this is looking to be the best combiner yet.

Why is every one in beast mode except Rippersnapper? Rippersnapper is my favorite & I wanted to set it as wallpaper but he's in robot mode. Is there any other artwork where he is also in beast mode? WTF?:(

Random question. Why did Hasbro choose to put faux-rubsigns on the Terrorcon figures, and not say, any other figures in the line that are G1 referential? Did the Terrocons have some sort of special association with rubsigns in G1 or something? Is this some sort of reference I'm missing?

...they did something similar with the clones for their mode stickers, i suppose to differentiate them; perhaps having tested the waters they decided to carryover similar decor to other vintage homages...

The G1 figures of the clones were known to have rubsigns showing their unique alternate modes, so I can see why they carried that reference over to their Titans Return figures. I don't really see any real compelling reason why something like this was done for the Terrocons, since none of them had anything particularly "unique" relating to rubsigns in G1 that really merit calling attention to in this manner for their new figures, unlike the clones.
