Just had to take this guy out of the box to put the replacement parts on him and remembered how much I hate this piece of crap. He barely holds together and the goddamn shoulder pads literally FLY off with every movement of the arms, which barely stay attached to the torso. I really hope someone buys mine on ebay FAST so I can get him out of my life!

If most people can't even transform it then it's not brilliant.

I just took the plunge on this guy. I hope I get a good, qc issue free copy.
The complex transformation is partially what sold me as I'm one of those weirdos that preferred the G-Creations Ultra Maxmas to Generation Toys Op-Ex. Harder to transform, but looks better in general.
I feel that while UT's Challenger does some things right and does look better in some areas (the back), I like El Cid's proportions better overall.

I've been nothing but happy with my El Cid. He gets a (partially deserved) bad rap, but really is a great figure.

The transformation is... involved. It's frustratingly satisfying, if that makes sense.

He has issues, but I think it's a great figure, so long as QC is good. The paint job on mine ... I've been more into Figuarts for the past year, but I mess with El CID regularly. For the model it has to emulate, I think it does a great job.

Good luck. Most people literally can’t transform him, and not because we’re dumb (I don’t think), but because it’s so fiddly and complex To the point of not making sense. Plus most copies are just really poorly made. Additionally, the instructions are basically useless. I hope you enjoy him.

I appreciate it. I will probably get the UT one too. I'm not one of those "there can be only one" types. I dig different takes on similar characters.

Well, I have had my El Cid for a few days now and here are my initial impressions. Getting to know him has been fun.
First, the only major QC issue I had was that he came with two left hands! I have a replacement hand coming, so no worries there.
The transformation is really complex and it has taken time to figure out how to get certain parts into place, as well as what order of steps to take to transform him without breaking anything.
The final result is a toy that, at least to me, looks great in both robot and truck modes. I will probably still get Challenger, but not because of disliking El Cid.
It's like owning Ultra Maxmas and Op-Ex. The former is somewhat delicate, but looks great and the latter is durable, but kind of blocky, IMO. Both are fun transformers.
AAs effort reminds me of the early days of TFC, Fansproject, and even UT, as well as others. All of those early 3rd party offerings had QC issues and needed mods/fixes. Most companies got better and I expect Alien Attack will too.
In the end, I am happy with this purchase. I'm getting enjoyment out of El Cid and having fun with our toys is what it's all about, right?
