Since these are based off characters color wise this seems to confirm there will be a starscream edition. I was hoping for soundwave my self.

 

I used to DJ mix and I fail to see the purpose of these tracks being put on vinyl. This isnt dance music. Some songs do have a BPM but whos gonna mix them? Some would be great for sampling into hip hop beats, but CD quality would be a producers choice. So I guess these are meant to hang on a wall....

Pretty simple really. Vinyl sales actually make people money, whereas CD or strictly digital do not. They would be wise to NOT release these OSTs in digital, if thier concern is to make a profit...which I assume it is. They should definitely release these in large enough numbers to allow everybody who wants one to get one.

I also dont quite get the format choice, othe than vinyl was king in the mid 80s....only because CD was still too expensive at the time.

I have a Megatron variant of these, still sealed. Which lead me to notice there us no external marking to differentiate it from the other twk variants...a buddy called me out on it...how do you KNOW its the Megatron one if you dont open it, lol? He had a point...unless somebody else knows, anyway to verify via some other means other than order receipt?

 

I can understand that releasing them in digital format would just encourage bootlegging, but the nusic is already out there anyways. But my point is transformers fans are not DJs. Nobody on their right mind is going to buy a turntable just to hear a record. Transformers fans want to hear the music. Your copy is still sealed so I take it you havent invested in a turntable yet. Also, the fact that this is not DJ music to begin with baffles me why it is being released on vinyl. Other than for a handful of hip hop producers, these tracks have zero value in this format. Its not something youre going to "spin" in a club.

 

I believe there's a very small blue or red circular sticker on the cellophane. I'm not at home or I'd verify it.

 

I wonder if it'll have the track featured in this clip.

The problem is you assume that only DJ would be interested in vinyl...unless I'm misunderstanding you. Its still sealed for the reason a lot of my vinyl is sealed...not time to really enjoy it, plus the resale got up pretty quick and I can stomach the wait in case it really climbs in value.

I have a fairly decent turntable setup, about 12 years ago before vinyl got stupid (prices), maybe 200 or so records. No direct drive for me, not now, not ever.

These first run copies were going to sell quick no matter what...full scalper bait I am sure. Those Prime/Megatrons went crazy fast.

Finally, while the music may already be 'out', not officially or in a collectible way. I can listen all day to crummy MP3 files burned or off of youtube, but thats not how I like to listen to music. Im sure the average vinyl enthusiast would think the same. My only problem with this release is that its incomplete, and....no digital release lol. I would have bought a CD for sure, thats how I mist often listen to muzak in the car. But I am sure digital will come along after the get some return profits from vinyl. Its the smart way to do it these days, given the market.

 

I'd buy it to listen to it, not resell it. And just like the first time I missed it, if I miss it again, I'm not buying it at scalper pricing. There's plenty of other music out there I desire before dropping $$$$$ on this.

 

Well im used to to DJ mixing as a hobby. Technic 1200's not some cheap setup. When I think of the Transformers score, I think of beats and background music....basically music production type stuff you might find in Dr. Dres basement. Or maybe the type of stuff you might play in your car with a friend when you smoke one. I dont see any value in a record for this particular score other than hanging it on a wall. Whos gonna play it, with what turntable? Even DJs have moved on to Numark all in one mixing consoles that bring pitch control to CDs and MP3s. Even you said it yourself, you didnt open yours. Wouldnt you rather have it on a CD so you can actually enjoy it? Most people who know about this score want to hear it, not just own it. I get it, hipsters like to buy non direct drive turntables and collect records like it was the 70s. But thats more getting into the rock, alternative, and punk world. I dont think many of those guys have interest in the score of a 1980s cartoon thats just beats. And to top it all off, I wouldnt even be surprised if they used the unofficial fan made score to press the record. Quality-wise you wouldnt know the difference. Sure they got the license, but some guy already did all the hard work illegally for free. So why pay a mixing technician to master old ADATs when somebody already did the hard work for free? Thats my opinion. Its not like the editor of the fan-made version can sue them. Is it coincidence that this record comes out almost immediately after all 4 seasons were released online for free....

 

You a bit scattered with your thoughts about this, still not sure what your point is. I'm no DJ yet I buy and collect vinyl, and listen whem I can. I don't use a turntable as a tool or instrument (a stretch), other than to listen to music I like. The only reason I haven't opened mine is because the value shot up considerably after I purchased it. So now It's more like a collectible, like a lot of vinyl I own.

I don't know who mixed or mastered it, and don't care too much either way...other than wish they used the more recognizeable opening theme music rather than what's featured here.

 

This new print is just a repress, correct? Nothing new other than the colours? 750 of each, am I missing anything?

 

I have rock and punk music as well on vinyl. No one mixes rock music. It's like I wonder why people bother to still put movies on DVDs. But it seems there are still people who buy DVDs. Which I still can't understand why, but it's what it is.

 

Im a bit confused by your response as well. You say that you only use your turntable to listen to the music. Yet you buy a record and dont open it? Sure the value of MISB, I get that. But if youre just about listening to music, why have a turntable and records that take up lots unnecessary space when you can "listen to the music" from a book of CDs or even a hardrive of MP3s. In the old school DJ world, there were countless remixes that were only made available on vinyl because tgey were never meant for the general public to own. You can find those in thrift shops these days. These versions will never see MP3 unless somebody who actually remembers they exist bothers to convert them and upload them to youtube for the world to enjoy. While I totally support that, im not that guy with the time on my hands to do it. Now back on the topic of the G1 score. Its out there, online. You can download it. You can listen to it. You dont need a turntable to enjoy it. But you still got plenty of music fans who are not as tech savy as you and I who need that CD version. Thats why it needs to exist. And it will sell. It will sell a whole lot more copies than this stupid record which was mostly bought by people who would have preferred to buy the CD but couldn't. BTW, I still collect records these days, but I limit it to stuff I wanted in the 90s that necer made it to CD and is not available in MP3 form. If it is available in MP3 or CD (which I can convert) I have zero use for the vinyl copy. So I fail to see the point of using a record player for the sole purpose of "listening to music". When im relaxing listening to music in my zone, I like to change tracks at the touch of a button in the order I want to hear them. Not have to get up and flip over a record. Or fall asleep and have it spinning for hours ruining the stylus. I also like to enjoy these rare gems in the car driving to work or wherever. I dont do DJ mixing anymore, like you I just like to listen to the music. Thats why I dont see the point of owning a turntable unless youte specifically looking for rar songs/remixes only available on vinyl. Thats the whole reason I dont get the rationale behind this release. Lets force 40 something year old Transformers fans to buy turntables to relive their favorite childhood cartoon soundtrack. It makes zero sense from a fan perspective. Its trolling. They might as well have reissued it on cassette and painted it like Laserbeak.

 

DVDs exist for the sole purpose of bootlegging to save money. When a blue-ray disc gets ripped to AVI format and dropped to recordable disc, It basically becomes a DVD. Theres a ton of people out there who like to just watch movies, not collect them. So for this, a 5 dollar DVD from walmart makes perfect sense. Or 5 bootleg DVDs for $10 at a local flea market makes ever more sense. Then they can just enjoy them once or twice and pass them on to someone else or keep them in a shoebox taking up minimal space. Same thing goes for music. DVDs and CDs will always be around. Its music and movies made cheap and easy.
