Boy, with Toysrus closed people must be struggling when it comes to trying to find toys at normal retail.

I think it’s the other way around. With people finding toys elsewhere, Toys R Us was struggling.

Not really. Research the 2005 leveraged buyout. A ticking time bomb of billions of dollars in debt and bad management is to blame.

And yet, my local Targets still insists on having two full aisles (4 shelf walls) dedicated to Star Wars figures, while everything else is stuck in a 6 inch wide (if that) space that is frequently barren, since they’re actually being sold and the employees just seem to refuse to stock the shelves with product that they clearly have.
Saw that one on Reddit. The “Don’t ever grow up. Play on!” was what really got me at the end.

RIP TRU. I hope one of the bidders succeeds in bringing you back. For now though... it's been real. Especially sorry for those who lost their jobs.

This. I hope the people impacted in this are ok and find their feet quickly. My mom worked at one for a while back in the 90’s and she had a lot of good coworkers.

    RIP TRU.

The employees basically said the same thing. The vultures sure made their presence known come closing time.

the disgusting thing is, the Hedge FUnd that ultimately caused TRU to close, they only made a profit of under 10 million. They spent like a hundred million dollars to make 1% of profit and caused an insane amount of lost jobs. If they bought TRUfor lets say 50 million and sold it for 80 million, that would've been a good investment. But I've heard they bought TRU for anywhere from 80 mil to 100 mil (depending on the source). it was a profit, but a very low profit that they could've made more money and not caused so many people to loose their jobs if they lets say invested in gold. If they took that money and put it in a 2% CD, they would've made more money.

I agree, now that was my childhood memory (not TRU), but times have changed and the toys will never be like those days of old (80's and early 90's)

I'm honestly happy the liquidation process is finally over, that was a nightmare and a half. At the same time I'm sad that a store I grew up with, had many positive memories of, and ended up working for, met its untimely demise. Toys R Us was truly the last of its kind - a dedicated nationwide toy store that carried a wide variety of toys, catering to a wider audience that neither Walmart, Amazon, nor Target could ever do.

Ahh, so buildings (and property, in some locations) are going on the block.

This still depresses the hell out of me. I think the death (for now) of TRU has triggered a profound wave of nostalgia in me. I've been perusing the "does anyone have pictures of 80s toy aisles?" thread ever since this started, and the Walmart reissues with G1-ish packaging have really captured my attention lol. Part of me just wants to dive into a Scrooge McDuck money pit filled with G1 box art boxes instead of money, and roll around in it reminiscing.

It’s definitely the end of an era. This weekend’s free LEGO event is happening at Barnes and Nobles stores, but going there with the kids won’t be the same experience as going to Toys R Us with the kids.
