Not even Grotusque, the TF section was so empty I thought I was in Walmart.

All TFs gone, replaced with a wall of minions!

I just came back from mine and there's nooooo TFs. Even the RiD cheap combiners were bought up. I waited too long to go back after picking up some other stuff on my last TRU visit. It's honestly sad to see the store the way it is. The bikes are even gone. :(

All the Transformers were wiped out from my TRU before the going out of business sales even started.

That confirms what I've been saying all along regarding Larian. His lowball offer was rejected because there are other potentially better offers on the table. In this case, it looks like everything is going to auction and the courts think they'll get more from that due to so many participants.

Oh, so maybe I presented a good article of hope after all?

    Kind of...

Just because the name and giraffe are acquired by a company doesn't mean it will be used, unfortunately. For what it's worth, Larian stated he would've at least tried to retain TRU in it's current form to a lesser capacity. We have no idea what the intentions are of these unknown buyers. Not to mention that TRU is being sold at auction in bits rather in in some form of whole.

But the fact that there's A LOT of interest means there's at least someone in there that probably wants to capitalize on the TRU name and will try to bring back TRU in some kind of retail capacity.

Well, at the very least, it means that there isn't going to be any "keeping TRU open." All of the existing stores WILL close by the end of the month. What might happen is that a new company under the TRU name opens sooner rather than later. Maybe they'll even be able to use some of the existing properties.

But there will be a clear discontinuity between TRU now and "new TRU," if and when such comes to pass.

Kind of like what happened with Hostess.

It is going to be interesting. Many old TRU locations will sit vacant for a long time, since few companies have the resources to properly use them (and the ones that do have those type of resources don't want or need them). I suspect a "new" TRU would revive or replace/relocate about a third amount of U.S. based stores at most. And the earliest they could get it to happen would be early 2020 (maybe Christmas 2019 if they were really competent). It would take at least that amount of time to deal with the legal issues surrounding the old companies collapse and get supply chains organized and stores redesigned/remodeled. It is vaguely possible to conceive of it happening, how the Kaybee "revival" works out will probably give us more indications about a "new" TRU's chances.

Or the TRU brand could wind up merging with something like Barnes & Noble/Gamestop or purchased by a company like Target (I doubt Walmart would acknowledge its existence) and basically just be a logo by their toy area.

Went to two today. Good grief, it was depressing. All of the back aisles destroyed and all of their content pushed to the front. All of the product just haphazardly sitting on pegs and shelves, but still trying to squeeze as much revenue as they can out of the items. In fact, I bought my son two toy vehicles that were supposed to be $3.99 a piece, but they rang up at $5.99. Seeing how pitiful everything and everyone was, I couldn't bring myself to complain and just added one more receipt to the memory pile. Son's happy with them, so that's really all that matters.

I will say it's kind of crappy that the powers that be turned down the air conditioning. It's just barely tolerable in there and the staff looks like they're ready to faint.

It's sad that my three year-old knows what the liquidation signs are for. He saw them at Sears today and told me that they're going to close too just like mama's work (tru).

Mine haven’t lowered prices any further, but a lot of stuff has moved out. Except Star Wars and whatever Yokai Watch is - they still have TONS of that crap that won’t sell.

My local stores also have signs saying they won’t take cash payments after the 24th. What’s up with that?

In order for stores to make their final cash deposit before the end of the month. This also prevents from paying Garda/Brinks/whichever service again for an additional pickup one more time before stores ultimately close.

Every store’s HVAC system has been controlled from HQ in New Jersey for as long as I could remember. No idea why or how it made any sense other than penny pinching. It’s been unbearable at work recently.
