Isn't it amazing how a translator in the 1980s who probably did a hundred jobs like this and didn't think twice about a decision like that ("eh it's just some Japanese video game adaptation, who cares?") has infuriated an entire generation of fans decades later.

 

His Ex-Men series was hilarious too. And the outtakes are even funnier than the skits ahaha.

 

Aren’t most outtakes? Like I’m pretty sure the darkiplier vs antisepticeye bloopers were watched more than the original video.

 

Actually, the story goes that Capcom was afraid to anger Mike Tyson and incite litigation, so they chose to remix the names for the west.

But c'mon, I mean, the original Street Fighter had a black street boxer named Mike, and the sequel has a similar dude, only this time wearing boxing gloves and looking more like Mike Tyson, named M. Bison. But they have since stated that those two are not the technically meant to be the same character. Suuuuuuuuuuuuuure.

The funniest thing to come from this, is that for years people wondered what the M. stood for. Master Bison? Malice Bison? Malignant Bison? Something cool and evil befitting a Dictator bent on world domination? Nope, it's Mike.

Well of course Ryu has to go to Optimus Prime.

 

And of course bison is megatron.

 

Well it’s either choose something that fits with Ken or with Bison. Also it’s two classic protagonists stuck together. I think it’s a good idea.

Well it was possible that it might come up, seeing as how Mike Tyson's likeness was licensed by Nintendo for Punch Out! for the game outside of Japan, and any lawsuit at the time would have crippled Capcom easily.

Officially in Street Fighter Alpha 3, M. Bison was confirmed as Master Bison for outside of Japan at least, which is fine because most kids I know used to call him Major Bison (cause military) which I always felt was even weirder. Like why not General Bison?

 

Then here's a thing that got in my mind.

Who would use any of the Bumblebee and Starscream molds?

 

It depends which mold. I heard an idea that guile should be made from starscream so he can turn into the jet fighter in his stage which I think is hilarious.
