I feel that Takara has learned that some people prefer the toy version of an MP and are willing to go 3rd party to get it. So going forward I strongly suspect we will get both toy and toon versions of each MP. Maybe not all, but I definitely think the odds are much better now. I believe a toy Sunstreaker is inevitable now that the parts have been revealed on MP-42. I personally prefer toon but I’ve been buying Diaclone/toy doubles to display in alt mode so I’ll most likely buy both. But toy Megs to me looks horrible so I won’t be getting that one. And I really want toy Shockwave but his price is really making me pause on that one. I really hate the Takara-Tomy Mall exclusive pricing. It forces me to buy outside of Japan and rapes my wallet. MP-29+ will cost me over $300 Canadian. For comparison I paid less than $230 Canadian all in for Megatron!

Not one that we all know of.

I’d say buy with confidence, but always ask the question.

I’m personally waiting for the inevitable reissue from Amazon JP, and I can assure you the price for it will match the one you are about to buy, if not by much.

But whatever you decide, good luck!

Don't forget the black stripe running along the bottom of the car mode and the door scoops painted black as well. :)

Yup, that's what I meant by "real world accurate care details like Cordon" (great typo there :lol )

I probably wouldn't pick one up, as I love the blue windows aesthetic, but that's only because I'm hoping to pick up the red repaint which hopefully will come with the yellow-eyed head and toy hand-'launcher' that I can swap over when I fancy.

There are still no KOs of this? I.e., if I buy online I’m not taking any risks of getting a ko at this point?

Today I finally opened and transformed my MP Sunstreaker and my first impression is…

    Wow. Holy crap wow.

Takara-Tomy didn’t just take Masterpiece to the next level, they took it a few levels higher! Sunstreaker is an incredible example of design and engineering.

I’m in awe that such a solid and realistically detailed Lamborghini has expanded into this trim, compact, equally solid and superbly articulated robot. While the transformation was more complex than previous carbots, I didn’t find it to be confusing or even scary if taken step-by-step. In fact, I felt like it all flowed pretty well through a logical progression. Could they have made it simpler? Perhaps. Is the result of the work they did amazing? To me the answer is an emphatic yes!

Some feel that Sunstreaker is different from preceding Masterpiece figures to the extent that he doesn’t fit in. My impression so far is that he does. The original cast were always a motley crew whether in toy or cartoon form, and I feel that the line’s design aesthetic has evolved gradually enough that the differences for the most part feel overall like variation on a character level.

Sunstreaker is still a very fresh addition to my collection, and I’m sure my impression will continue to develop as I spend more time with him.

Bravo, Masterpiece Team! Keep ‘em coming!

I really like how that Sunstreaker looks! Im a "mixed MP" fan rather than toy or toon but that is a good mix to me. I would sell off my current MP-39 for that version!

Still I'm not holding my breath for any + toy versions unless Hasbro Asia get the itch but I would like to see it. I would trade up my Inferno and Grapple for more detailed versions for sure!

Fair question, especially since I preordered him from Amazon JP and had him within a few days of release. :D

I actually did open him shortly after receiving him, but had a lot going on and didn’t feel like I had enough time available to really sit down and enjoy transforming him until now. That’s typical for MPs I receive while winter or spring term are in session. Once school is out and I have my grading in, I get a little more me time.

@Xaxis, I opened him immediately and loved him right away, but feel bad to admit that he sat on my shelf for a month or two mostly untouched up until a few weeks ago. Just busy and I tend to pick up characters I love rather than just cool figures and Sunstreaker was never a big deal to me, but I'd almost forgotten how amazing this guy is! Haven't been able to put him down the past couple weeks. Endless posing and display possibilities, genius engineering that I find fun and intuitive, and, of course, he's absolutely beautiful. Glad you finally got some time to enjoy one of the crowning achievements in the line!

    Thanks, man!

He is indeed a crowning achievement and having now actually experienced him firsthand I’m even more excited for V3 Prime and whatever releases will follow.

Hopefully I’ll have a chance to take some photos soon. Gotta capture some battle scenes with Sunstreaker and Sideswipe! :D

Any plans to re-create this scene with Takara Sunstreaker?

That would have been a cool accessory to include with Sunstreaker. Too bad Takara didn’t do that.

Kinda like how they didn't include a jet pack with Sideswipe.
