MPM-5 Masterpiece Barricade is now up on Amazon.com. Shipped and sold by Amazon for $79.99. At the time of this post it is available to add to cart and order but it is listed as temporary out stock.

This is weird. The UPC barcode linked to this ASIN is 630509780945.

MPM-5 Barricade when released in Asia had the UPC barcode 630509654642.

It should be mentioned though that a very early listing for the European version of Masterpiece Barricade on Amazon Spain had the EAN barcade 5010993374502 while the version that eventually became available on European Amazon sites had the EAN barcode 5010993502905 instead, so this is not entirely unprecedented.

I wonder if Hasbro and Amazon have a new deal going on. I feel like, in the past, the Transformers that show up in Amazon are not actually sold by Amazon (unless they were Amazon exclusives like Jetwing Optimus Prime). As such, they don’t often have Prime shipping and are higher cost. But starting with the Studio Series, the figures are being sold and distributed by Amazon for the MSRP. Maybe I’m just not looking enough at Amazon but this does seem to be a change to me.

    Also 100% ordered.

Hmmm this is interesting because for $80 I will probably get this figure but for $100 I wasn’t interested.

But... but, with TRU dying, there wasn't supposed to be any other way for exclusives to get made or released to the US market?

Amazon is the outlet for Movie Masterpiece in Europe so this makes sense. Amazon.co.uk, Amazon.de etc. have had Bumblebee and Optimus in stock for a while; Barricade and what appears to be Ironhide have also been listed for a while, with Barricade very briefly in stock in Amazon.co.uk. The fact the listings have weird titles like "Transformers Masterpiece TF1 Decepticon Figurine MV6, E2316" and Hasbro's lack of making it known that Amazon will carry the series probably explains why it's pretty much gone under the radar.

At least that's still an accurate (if a bit confusing) description... some of the recent listings at Amazon Germany are labeled as "dog toys"!

Still rather pay a little more and avoid the stupid import taxes issues that Amazon JP gets you tied up in. If they over estimate it takes them 60 days to give it back while growing interest on it for themselves. Plus if there is an issue it takes months to straighten it out and you end up with a refund and an out of stock product to make your day that much happier so you can start then hunt all over again.

As the only person left on earth who doesn't use amazon for much, is it very regular for something to be listed as temporarily out of stock and still allow you to order it? I placed an order for the heck of it, but wondered if this is a version of preordering?

Sort of. With the preorder, Amazon will have a release date that they will have it to you by. Like if you preorder a game, you’ll have it by the end of the day on its release date.

There isn’t a scheduled street or release date for this so I think this can’t be a “preorder” under their system. Maybe that will change at some point but for now, they just don’t have stock. I wouldn’t be surprised if the stock is being forwarded or being preped to do so now and Amazon will just start shipping it when received. I mean, I’m sure Hasbro has all the MPM-5s made, they just need to unload stock.
