There is a car show at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend (4/28 - 4/29) and there will be a full sized working replica of Optimus Prime at the show. They posted a video the other day on their twitter account and it looks pretty spot on from the video. I found this photo posted on the speedway twitter. Definitely worth checking out!

    Working replica?

So you are saying it transforms right? Exactly how is this replica "working" ?

So it’s not a “working replica.” It’s just a replica made of the prop vehicle used in the movie.

I got to see the prop vehicle used for Sentinel Prime when I was a kid, it had a scorch mark on the drivers side door from where they accidentally drove it too close to one of the explosives during filming.

You can't say thing like "working replica of a transformer" if it's just a truck - it's just a truck, no big surprise it works.

It would be stranger if it didn't work, and was just a shell of a truck with no engine.

But is it really a working replica if it can’t do the main thing that Optimus does? I’d even forgive it if it had the capability to violently tear its enemies faces off in bloody combat, the second most main thing Optimus does, but it doesn’t even look like it can do that. It’s just a truck with a cool paint job. Which is still cool, just not "tear enemies faces off in bloody combat" cool.

When you were a kid? DOTM was 7 years ago...

Since we're sharing... I watched the set up, rehearsal, and filming of a car action scene for DOTM in DC. Bay came to the crowd and said hello, talked about the new 3D tech they were using. I captured the final take with pyrotechnics on my iPhone. The scene lasted only seconds but they took hours to set up. Saw Bumblebee, but the rest were metro PD squad cars.

I've also seen a replica just like this one, driving through the Albany area and headed further northeast toward Troy. It was huge. These cabs are enormous in person. I still have no idea where it was going. I'm guessing somewhere similar to this car show, maybe in New England.

I used to live in a fairly small rural town in northern Queensland in Australia, and would regularly see a Bumblebee Camaro driving around. Apparently it was one of the actual cars used in the filming of the first movie, but I don’t know if that’s true. It’d be a weird place for it to end up if it were though.

That's really cool actually. Well done to that guy.

Honestly, I don't think it's the truck itself that's getting bashed. I think it's just the use of the term "working replica", because that implies things that I'm sure this truck can't do. And it's all meant as a joke anyway. I'm sure no one's actually annoyed that this truck can't turn into a giant alien robot.

Even so, yeah, maybe we should calm down just a little.

Actually I think that guy needs to calm down a bit lol. Not trying to sound like a prick, but just because some rich guy built an uber expensive toy for his son, that doesnt make him some kind of a hero. Its not like this truck was built by the make a wish foundation for a terminally ill child. If that was the case, then I totally agree we might have gone a bit far. But the father built the truck to "inspire" his son. Give me a six figure check and ill build something inspirational for the world to see too. But getting back to my original point, the term "working replica" is whats catching all the heat here, not the truck itself. A custom paint job and some pricy chrome add ons never stopped the truck from "working" as a functional vehicle to begin with. Thats what makes the choice of words so ridiculous. As a matter of fact, in trucker culture they love to compete with each other to see who can have the baddest truck. So customized paint jobs and tons of unnecessary chrome pipes are a norm in tge truck world. Ive seen some trucks in real life that would give Prime a run for his money in a truck show.
