There is just something humorous about how they lure us in with these dreams of hey you can get something cool for 40% off to find out that it is just one type of item that is 40% off.

I happened to be near a Toys-R-Us last weekend and with almost everything only 10% off it seemed like nothing was really moving. Kind of feels like it's going to be the weekend before the closed forever that we see any real discounts on the stuff people want.

Pretty much. It’s gonna be like Black Friday the moment the doors open on that day.

I know, found it funny that only the cards are 40% off and others stuff are still at 10% off....at 10% off their stuff is still overpriced.

How did you find out the closing date?
I'll stop by my local just before it closes on the off chance I can get a planet Cybertron on the cheap but I think I made my last purchase at TRU last week.

The final TRU exclusive, studio series Skywarp.

I was just reminiscing about when I was one of the first TRU employees at my TRU when they were building it, back when you needed to grab a ticket to buy video games.

Now that the gift cards can no longer be used I wonder if we will start to see some real discounts?

This going out of business sale is a joke. I thought they needed to move this stuff? At 10% off, everything in TRU is still overpriced and rotting on the shelves. They need to have a discount timetable that is uniform company-wide. That would keep people interested. As it is, I have no idea when to go to the store and, as a result, don't go at all.

I expect a lot of the light discounts are because they have potential bidders looking at keeping at least some stores open...so until after those auctions they are lowballing the clearance.

The bidders aren't trying to keep any stores open. The liquidation will finish and employees will be let go regardless of the bidding. The bid is for the name/license.

Those bidders may be playing the long game. Hold up the clearance with a string of unsuccessful bids, and then buy everything by the truckload for massive discounts at auction when the doors close on a mountain of unsold merchandise. I guess it doesn't matter to TRU, though. Bankrupt is bankrupt no matter how you slice it. Maybe I will go to TRU when only a few hours remain on the final day. Probably won't be much left, but it will be practically free.

They are moving the stuff. The general public doesn't need a huge discount to go into liquidation frenzy. This won't have been the liquidation company's first rodeo, they know what they're doing.

Many stores have seen huge crowds for the mere 10% off, so it is working to an extent. I think my store had more customers in our final month than we did all through December with better deals.

I don't know how serious Larian is, or if he is just using it for publicity. But at the same time, I am still convinced there are multiple of bidders (even if I think they have already sold/auctioned off a few buildings). Larian would have a pretty healthy stake in seeing them succeed as an outlet for his product, and if he is getting hosed like many of the other unsecured creditors (unless something changed in the courts), I can see why he wanted them before the inventories were liquidated. Toys R Us placed abnormally huge orders with at least Crayola early in the year (and probably other companies), and told other companies like Lego to F-Off on getting back any inventory they had already shipped them unsecured (again, unless a court ruling haulted that), and is selling it off with no interest in ever paying for most (if any of it). In all fairness, Crayola should have been a little leery of them upping their orders from $1.2m last January/February to $2m+ this January/February, but that is hanging a lot of other companies out to dry on your way out the door.
