Man, there's so much to unpack here. Point 1: "generation x" kids didn't have drastically more babies as teens than current generations. The trend is downward, but the Baby Boomers were the peak. 2) Latch key kids "eating mcdonalds" alone would have peaked in the 80s, as my generation is considerably more health conscious than previous ones (again, the laziest MF'ers out there by generation are the baby boomers). 3) ALL babies eat toys. That's literally how they learn about the world around them from ages 3 months to about a year when they start talking and walking. Go look at the baby toy section, every toy will have 4-5 different textures on it so they learn the differences with their cute little mouths.

Also, assuming you were born in 1981 (from your username) you are a member of Generation X.

All of that said, I don't say any of this to shit on you, just to stand up for my peers who are apparently very misunderstood in context to other generations.

 

To be entirely fair, these aren't really a "main line." It's an offshoot side line intended for littler kids. I mean, even by that measurement, some of these are not great, but we also shouldn't be expecting them to look like Animated/Prime stuff.

The actual "main line" stuff right now is a bit better. The Generations stuff is not as solid as older lines, but they're still better than some of the junkier PRID figures. Evem Animated had a -few- stinkers.

As for the current RID line... it's hit and miss. The figures definitely suffer from being cheaper and simpler, and being limited to the Deluxe size class, but some of those figures are still pretty good. Strongarm kind of sucks, Drift and Skywarp are ok, Quillfire and Bludgeon are pretty great... etc...

This may be true, but I think it's -also- true that putting G1 Transformers into 5-year-old hands might have been not such a great idea in the 1980s. Not necessarily for safety reasons (though I suppose that counts too), but just because the first couple of years of G1 are NOT well-suited to young kids. They break too easily, and have a million small pieces to lose. Speaking from the perspective of an 80s kid with a younger brother (aka "The Destroyer").

I think that Lego was the only company putting age recommendations based on play pattern back then. Although has Hasbro does it now the age limit thing is always been about safety as far as the government is concerned.

I keep forgetting, was Cyberverse the next iteration of Generations or a replacement for RiD 2015 or both?

These look like the bigger RiD 2015 toys that also sat. None of the kids in my extended family were interested in them either. From the looks of shelves around here, that wasn't an uncommon sentiment. Loved the Classics/Generations stuff though.

It's pretty well established that G1 had a massive drop off in quality once Hasbro ran out of everybody else's toys to borrow. And it's interesting to note that when _Tonka_ needed more toys, they picked up the telephone and called Bandai to design a few more.

Seriously, not everything that Hasbro does is for us. We just choose to collect what Hasbro makes. Don't like it? Great, don't buy it and move on. Whining incessantly about how every damn figure coming out of Hasbro nowadays isn't MP quality makes you look like a spoiled prima donna people.

If they said 4-7 on the box and cost $15, I'd agree. But that is not what they say and these things are $40. I showed them to my eight year old son and he said they look really crappy. No dad, don't buy them.

Things were getting bad, but this year has gone to a new level. $25 shampoo bottle Avengers toys, a $10 lightsaber that looks and feels like a $3 knockoff. The $3 knockoff is actually better because it has a light and sound. The $35 Millennium Falcon that looks like a bath toy, etc.

If Hasbro wants to make cheap crappy toys, at least sell them for reasonable prices. Don't put premium price points on toys that are worse quality than The Corps Walmart toys.

I don't know about you, but this looks like a lot more fun for $30. The figures are actually Star Wars Black Series level in quality and articulation. With current prices that is $24 right there, but this set has a large vehicle with spring loaded weapons and a bonus watchtower. Using Hasbro pricing it would be $80 easy.

Cyberverse will be RID 15's replacement. Generations will continue on through a new trilogy called War for Cybertron (unrelated to the game with the same name).

Mush like 10 years ago when I brought animated swindle over to my buddy’s house and his 3 year old was obsessed with it until he kept telling his son “I think transformers are stupid. That toy is stupid. Don’t you think it’s stupid Brody?”

And his son said yeah and put it down and didn’t play with it anymore.

I think these will be great for kids.

The biggest challenge hasbro has with these kid lines is to design a toy thats cool, and make it work for a price point @$30. When the price goes over, we see big pieces like this shelf warm. they need to be <$30 so they work for the "lets stop and get so n so a Bday present" Parents dont spend much more that $20 on a bday present for other kids unless they are relatives or close.

its really the price point. if these are say $25..they will fly off shelves. if they are $45 or more..they will warm.
