It sounds solid but I don't buy it. Fans Toys has a far bigger reputation and fan base than Maketoys, I honestly can't count how many times I've heard people saying; "I'll wait for FT to do it!'. The recent release of Sixshot gives an indication of what I'm talking about, let's not forget Apache and Sovereign whilst we're at it! I also believe that MT not including Sunbow accurate heads might come back to bite them in the ass, such a tiny gesture could have gone a long way into slamming the door shut on those characters. As it stands they haven't even completed the lot, leaving an opportunity which I don't think FT might be able to take advantage of now because of their huge backlog and who knows, will MT even carry on with them, their HM and TM weren't exactly selling like hotcakes although I feel it could be due to their popularity or lack of it.

I feel MT's incompletion of their HM and TM line, FT's bigger reputation and MT's lack of Sunbow accuracy will more than give FT the opportunity to carry on with them, once they get rid of this backlog....they'll do them, I think the backlog is what makes the chance of FT making them slimmer but had it not been for it I think FT would more than likely do them regardless of MT does. It might be the backlog that will prevent them more so than MT making them.

You're at the wrong window for toy accuracy over toon accuracy buddy. FT tends to stick to the "official" toon reference (as opposed to weird screen shot cherrypicking) and add a hefty dash of "heroic" proportions. If GP gets around to headmasters, they're much more likely to go with a bigger croc head to match the toy.

I'll agree that it needs more heft to match the character reference, the neck should be close to the width of the torso at the shoulders and the head widened to match. But a head almost half the toy doesn't really match up to the toon. Plus the G1 toy had the croc head hanging down past the back of his knees in bot mode. Something that huge would be that much harder to hide. Possible with plenty of collapsing and folding, but that arguably could make the croc head look less solid with seams and panels.

What's funny is in my city we have an annual event called the 5K Chomp & Stomp. It's a 5k race and chili cook off festival.

Yeah. I can't believe MT didn't gave them toy heads instead of toon heads.

Edit: whoops! I meant I don't understand why they gave them toy heads but didn't include a toon head also.

There is definitely some truth to that, but I'm not sure how much. I think a lot of FT's "holding back" has more to do with how big their backlog had gotten. They literally had 2 announcements in all of 2017, Arcee and Superion (3 if you count Perfect Fusion Cyclonus). Now that they have nearly finished the backlog we will see whether they get more aggressive with it again. Right now they only have 5 figures remaining who were announced more than a year ago (I personally define "announced" as when we at least have renders, I only consider silhouette as "teases" but I know others will think differently).

Personally, I'm waiting for FT's Glomp to go with their inevitable reimagining of Chomp 'n' Stomp Grimlocknder.

We are on the same page. FT has been going through the same growing pains as XTB/KFC just more effectively because of better plan up front. Anytime, someone poses these future plans and limitations of the market the FT prestige mantra is used. That's not an effective argument for the situation. As someone who loves FT and buys a ton of their figures, I cannot wait for their future offerings and they will get a ton of my money. However, there is a simple fact to consider that FT is at 30 figures. There are 100s of figures to make and most have already been made. FT is not going to do all of them. The question then becomes where do you see them going. dalianjj and co are incredibly smart. No one can convince them not to do something they want to do but they don't want to have to fight for every character. This, I'll wait for FT chant doesn't prevent other people from selling thousands of a figure. Sure, FT can make the same figure and sell well like a Sovereign or Hydra but FT wants to own a figure the Decepticon HMs. As the market plays out you are not reissuing a Slugslinger like a Sovereign or Rouge. FT has to get their money.

I think the way TW/Zeta played out really opened the door for the market to shift to MP combiners. dalianjj's statement to do all of the combiners constitutes aggressive. I really think FTs style will enable them to excel here. FT will also do PF Scourge I assume but for the most part they are going to be tied up with combiners now that the movie cast is complete. I still see them doing a Sky Lynx regardless of the GP announcement. I see them picking out another team with less popular characters remaining. TMs just make sense or the remaining Autobot triplechangers. People have to realize that the G1 combiners through Predaking is 41 characters. If they wanted to go crazy all combiners are 75 figures. That is going to keep them busy for years. They may even scale back. The combiners are a very safe plan for them going forward sprinkled with other characters to break it up. In between people are going to have to hit the rest of Headmasters, SGMF, Victory, and Zone. MMC will finish up the Ocular Max line and go back to IDW, MT is now Galaxy, Planet X is WFC/FOC, BadCube is going in another direction. Some companies are mixing in Bayformers. You will be left with Fans Hobby, FT, KFC/XTB, DX9/UT to do all of the heavy lifting. I see the G1 market surviving to 2020 and maybe going after that if still churning out combiners and maybe FT citybots.

I don't know about that. Are there really that many people who wanted the poorly drawn "Rebirth" heads? I mean, their Headmasters did well enough that we've seen prototypes of Highbrow and artwork of Brainstorm. The one figure they did include a Sunbow head for was their Point Blank, and the Targetmasters the ones who MT shelved. And Lupus seemed like a relatively slow mover for FT. If I had to guess, and this is just speculation on my part, the Headmasters and Targetmasters both sell a little worse than characters from the first three seasons because they only turned up in four episodes at the end of the US G1 cartoon that were too overstuffed with characters. They rely more on nostalgia for the toys, familiarity with the comics, or familiarity with the Japanese cartoon. And in all three of those cases, I feel like the Headmasters have an advantage. They were the stars of a Marvel Comics miniseries, they were the stars of the Japanese Headmasters show, and toys with their gimmick weren't competing with remolds of the '87 movie toys.

By far my favorite Decepticon headmaster (well, after Scorponok). This FT take looks stunning! It follows the theme set by their Wierdwolf, clean but not "animation boring". Good use of linework, and he looks beefy. I'm a tad bit worried about the ankles, they look a little weak. Hope they can uphold the weight of the figure.
I'm getting this one for sure. :)

I don't like Dracula's alt mode. It may be accurate but it's lame. Nothing looks hidden in alt mode. Looks like bat wings sandwiched between bot legs and bot arms.

Indeed. Choice within niche is something to be savoured.

Kinda ridiculous how between this, Unique Toys and FansProject I'm gonna have three takes on the Decepticon Headmasters across three scales.

I think the proportions of the alt mode look really crap. The body looks stunted like it's a baby alligator or something and the head is too small. I would personally prefer the proportions below. To me, masterpiece is about getting a good mix of animation, toy (though not always) and realism. And though I appreciate there is no such thing as a robotic alligator they could at least get the proportions right. At the moment, imo, it looks like they were only half bothered when designing it. It's not like it's a triple changer or anything. A bit disappointed myself. The legs on the bot mode look awkward too though I'm willing to accept that may be me being picky. One can only wonder if they will further screw it up with a completely incorrect colour scheme as they have done with Mindwipe.
Don't misunderstand; I generally like FT a lot. But that's why I'm all the more disappointed by these. To those who like them as they are: Hope you enjoy them.

They both look fine to me, like you plucked them right out of the toon. What are you saying is wrong about mindwipe's colors? I just checked still from the dvds and he looks pretty spot on.
