Wait, when will this movie actually be shown in theaters? Has a date been revealed?

Makes sense, especially if they want to start the positive word of mouth early enough to get ground swell support.

Absolutely zero chance in hell of a movie being done almost a whole year early...
Unless they literally just show the actors talking with those stick pole/transformer placeholders wobbling around...
Definitely think this is some other franchise, sorry.

Could be a test screening. Have they done any reshoots yet?

It's actually done, I believe. You see, the movie was originally supposed to come out in June. Despite the fact that the release was pushed to December, the movie and the toyline were on track for their original release dates. That's why we are seeing toy listings this early. The movie wrapped production and went into post production as it was originally planned.

    Not that I'm aware of.
    Which gives this:
    more credence too.

Since they'd have to test reactions before doing any reshoots or seeing if they need to do any last minute adjustments. But if they're test screening it this early, it usually means they have a really strong feeling from the finished product as is. Especially if they're going to a convention with it. General audience screeners are usually an easy test, but direct testing it with fans means they feel it'll hold up to scrutiny and build hype.

They do it all the time. A lot of movies are done in a 12 month-14 month span. Especially ones with smaller budgets. Shooting wrapped by the time last Knight was in theaters so that gave them almost a full year to work on special effects. There’s plenty of time

I guess... I figured the delay would be for reshoots etc, I can't imagine the score is done as well?? Maybe they just hustled their asses off...
All the more reason though why I would then be skeptical about the quality... :inquisiti  Heck, if you've got a year to spare, why not edit the hell out of it.

There's already a positive buzz among the critics. Not directed by Michael Bay and being directed by Travis Knight largely removed the biased look critics give the series (I think it's a total unprofessional thing to keep such a bias, in the first place).

I firmly believe that Bumblebee will have largely positive reviews but may financially lose due to the fact that two other major films are releasing on the same day with an even larger one releasing few days later (Spiderverse + Aquaman and Mary Poppins respectively). Bumblebee is a family movie but the franchise has reached what the industry call as "Franchise Fatigue". Mary Poppins Returns is another family movie but is a movie with many parents who have watched the original when they were kids and are waiting anxiously to take their kids to see. They'll probably skip Bumblebee and will opt to go to Poppins.

Home Release is where Bumblebee will shine financially. It's no wonder they are planning for a home release when the movie is still 9 months away. And it's no wonder that they are taking a break after Bumblebee and is planning for a possible reboot. Bumblebee is a one amazing opportunity to bring positively to the eyes of the audience.

I feel like they wouldn't say "secret screening" for a movie that's been pretty well publicized.

As much as I’d love it, and there’s a small chance, I’d say it’s far more likely the movie will be Paramount’s highly anticipated and critically praised horror film “A Quiet place” which is set to release nationally in a few weeks. That’s what I’d put my chips on

That being said, if they have a near finished cut of Bumblebee, and if Paramount is extremely confident in its quality and potential ability to reinvigorate one of its most profitable franchises, I imagine it’d be a good strategy to get it in front of public eyes, and if the reception seems to be really positive and the cut of the movie is finished, they should announce a shift of release date up into summer. That’s make a bit of sense, and paramount has made some risky and interesting moves recently (see The Cloverfield Paradox). Who knows. My smart money is still on the Quiet Place

It could be a secret as in its earlier than expected.

Most likely that it'll be 'A Quiet Place'. It screened at SXSW and received amazing positive feedback. As you said, Paramount need all the support these days to get out of the pit they are in.

Nevertheless, a test screening of Bumblebee may happen this week as well. Jeremy Conrad is a credible source as he is actually involved with such screening processes.

Do you think there's any chance that Bumblebee's release date could move up a few weeks or months? It seems like it might be more financially successful if it released in maybe August or September, when not a whole lot else is coming out.
