This Bumblebee movie is one too many. Just think about it, you had 5 ...well 6 movies if you liked this series.

But if you didn't like it, like me, it's been over 10 years of it.

    Enjoy it.

I'm hoping to see something fresh.

I love the first movie with all my heart, and the 3rd and 4th are fun pieces of mindless entertainment, but yeah, I'm game for this.

This series ran out of steam a long time ago, it's definitely time to restart this thing and give more continuity.

Though I'm really excited to see the Bumblebee movie because it's gonna have an 80s setting, meaning retro-G1 style.

I'm glad to hear there rebooting, although i do like the Bayfilms. (more in a "There so bad there good" kinda way) i hope for them to keep some of the design elements from the previous movies but focus more on the bots and on character development then just action.

Bumblebee movie was already halfway through production and therefore was saved. Sources close to Paramount has stated that if it weren't for that, they would have scrapped it too. There are lots of movie fans including me. But this isn't the ending we hoped, for a series we know and love deeply. This whole decision was not just because of TLK's failure. Many factors contributed. Almost every single movie Paramount put out last year resulted in a loss. Doing a big-budget movie is a huge risk for Paramount now. BUT they are determined to rise again. To do so, they have gone for new agreements and started doing lower budget movies. Until they are financially stable, they will not go for another Transformers movie that will cost them $200+ million to make and another $200+ million to market.

For us, movies are entertainment. For them, it's business.

Unless the 2021 empty slot is taken up by a Transformers movie, we may not see any until Hasbro-Paramount 5-year deal ends. That if of course if the Bumblebee movie is successful. History does repeat itself for Paramount. Avatar (The Last Airbender), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows are such instances which they waited before committing for more. They were unsuccessful. But I hope that Bumblebee will rise above them. The director is amazing, the cast is good.

Looking at my own country, I will not deny the impact of TF movies. It created a whole new market. Prior to Michael Bay movies, there was no market for Transformers toys. In fact none for action figures. No serious collecting. 2007 movie changed everything. Characters became household names. Toy stores started opening up. Toy business which was on the brink of collapse here rose high once again. I was able to collect not just movie figures but cartoon and Generations too. I talked to several retailers and they still thank the Transformers Live Action Movies.

Cheers for an even brighter future for the franchise. :)

Still hoping IDW gets ahold of the 'plot' that would have become TF6 so they can do a 4-issue finally of the movie series. But then again, the TF movie writers seemed to have troubles getting each new movie to fit into the lore established by previous movies... So there may NOT have been a defined resolution to QUintessa/ Unicron...

The main problem is that all the films just had to make the Transformers be so damn important to the history of humanity/the Earth itself in various ways, meaning constant retcons and unanswered questions like what the hell the Decepticons were doing for hundreds of years on Earth already and A) never bothered looking for their leader, and B)why did they not immediately rally to his side in the first film if they were already around?

Transformers and Humans should not have an intertwined history built through retcons, especially bad ones that ignore obvious plot holes like Ironhide somehow being involved in crossing the Delaware River...two hundred years before he even got to Earth in the first place. It's a truly pathetic attempt to try and build up the universe so they could execute their horrible cinematic universe to rival Marvel when the groundwork just did not exist. You can't just amend a linear trilogy and expect that without substantial world building on what the present state of the setting is, you can just make up contradictory bullshit in the past to just wave away problems in the present.

The problem is, they have to raise the stakes with every new movie, but they didn't have 6 movie plots all planned in advance with all the backstory lined up. If they did, there could have been a LOGICAL progression of events.

The stakes are also a major problem. Every single film so far it has been without fail risking the entire fate of the planet (and by extension the humans who are some truly ungrateful bastards given they readily turn on the proven good guys when the proven bad guys so much as ask not-so-nicely, then immediately go back on their word anyway), which has the side effect of making the entire threat feel non-personal. Humans this, Earth that - the only true personal stakes are whatever idiotic human drama got woven into the plot of any given film and Prime's almost blind devotion to protecting humanity when it's really up in the air as to how effective the Decepticons actually are against them if it isn't the end of the film (at which point the humans are less than useless and the Autobots have to save their asses again).

It's repeatedly more or less the same save-the-world crap that redlines the threat index so often that it's become not that exciting because it's obvious the Autobots are always going to win with such success that they'll lose maybe one or two guys in the fight while the enemy is cut down to a scant few Decepticons.

Compare that to the Marvel films, where like the odds the new villain is going to be threatening the entire world outside of an ensemble film (Avengers) are only like, every fourth film? Take Ant Man for example, after Pym Labs is destroyed, Cross goes after the most important thing in Lang's life, which is not "Earth isn't ruled by a despot/blown up" - it's his daughter. The film established early on how important she is to Lang, so while in the big picture, the death of one girl is tragic but ultimately not going to destabilize a government, it would absolutely destroy Lang. Thus, the stakes are raised extremely high personally, without having to threaten the entire stinkin' world to get there. In fact, the only Marvel films outside of Avengers that legitimately threatened the entire Earth were Thor: The Dark World (which was more about moving characters around and introducing plot points for later MCU films than the Dark Elves actually invading London for whatever reason) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier (where it was revealed Hydra had been secretly working under SHIELD the entire time and their super helicarriers were going to murder a good percentage of the entire population of Earth to ensure world dominance of the Nazis).

World-threatening events should be held in reserve for the BIG features ala Avengers, where merely having a trailer where Thanos takes out Iron Man with one punch illustrates how much of a danger he is. With Transformers? Chicago is somehow left in ruins (which being a critical center of the American economy makes no goddamn sense), parts of Cybertron being dragged across the face of the Earth doesn't really seem to be a concern for whatever reason, and the actual main threat of the entire film - evil Optimus - lasts five minutes before breaking free from his mind control because Bumblebee made noises with his mouth.

One thing that also bothers me is that the end the franchise without a Prowl or Trailbreaker.

All of this makes you wonder just how hard and how much money the new management at Paramount will sink into promoting Bumblebee since it isn't their baby on the line? It seems like Paramount really didn't sink a whole lot into promoting Annihilation recently, take loosing what they already had in the film rather than spending a great deal on advertising to help the box office. Even at a budget of $40 million Annihilation did poorly enough at the domestic box office that Paramount can easily kill the potential franchise.

It's possible that Paramount might have already written this year off as loosing money so let's not throw any serious money into promoting this year's crop of films. With marketing being such a huge factor in how good you do at the box office there is a chance that Bumblebee could be a good movie but do poorly at the box office because it wasn't promoted hard in a busy time of year for movies.

Also how hard will the new management push for screens at the theater chains? The chains can't be very happy that they devoted a lot of screens for a poor showing by The Last Knight. So to smooth things over Paramount might not push for as many screens for Bumblebee which would hurt it's box office as well.

Just seems like a lot of ways Paramount could kick the legs out from under Bumblebee to say see the old management didn't know what they were doing so we are justified in all of our changes.

I'd love to see movie style toys of them, and other characters, whether grim hasbro or third parties. I'm not sure, but I think Prowl appeared in one of the movie comics.

God this so fucking much. The quality and effort that goes into these movies is pathetic and there is no defending it, especially when comparing it to Marvel movies and the quality they strive for. It almost hurts watching watching Marvel movies sometimes because I wish the same amount of care and quality could be put into Transformers. Instead we’ve gotten 5 movies by Micheal Bay which are intended for 13 year olds. I mean literally every other scene in TLK is a blatant sex joke between the two characters. Once again the TRANSFORMERS get no characterization(besides Cogman), there is no context or exposition for anything besides a few short sentances here and there that you’ll miss if you blink, and there just isn’t any care.

It’s all flash, and no substance. If you like that, thats fine, but that doesn’t change the FACT that these movies are of poor quality. They do not try to be good, and they expect the audience to like it.

And while I understand that the movieverse has helped the brand, and brought forth a new era that would have never have been possible otherwise, it has gotten to the point that it has crippled it. Each of the movies besides the first one have been absolutly slammed for being awful(and they are in quality), and the general audience has proven they are done with it. The reputation for the brand is soured amongst general audiences as proven by TLK’s failure and even worse, retailers.

The reason we didn’t get more then 3 waves of product for AOE and TLK is because retailers refused to buy any more then that because they don’t sell, and thats not factoring in shelf space for the other one-step style figures. Meanwhile, Generations has been running strong for years now, but not anymore. Because of the TLK line’s absolute failure to sell Generations as a has been cut back. POTP only has three(technically 4) waves, with not even the entire cast of Prime Masters being able to be finished(unless they pull something similar to the Clones). The Movies have negatively impacted the brand at this point. That is the last straw for me with the movies, and I bet you my entire soul that was the last straw for Hasbro too in canceling the movieverse. Cry and argue all you want about how amazing the movies are, but TLK hurt the franchise, and the whole thing is being canned besides Bumblebee, which was too far into production to be canceled.

The day something starts to negatively impact the franchise, is the day it needs to die. Transformers reputation has already suffered enough, and now the toylines suffer too. It is time for something new, something with better quality, because believe it or not, thats the key to sucess. Theres a reason Marvel keep making box office records and breaking them, and Transformers is canceled.

And for the record, I was nine when the first movie came out so they were a part of my childhood. I still collect the figures and I’m okay with the designs. I mainly collect Generations however, and now they have effected even that.
