A star upper? What’s that?

 

Star Upper is a Maximal boxer in the Intergalactic No Holds Barred Boxing competition in the Beast Wars II manga and Beast Wars Neo cartoon. His special boxing move, the 'star upper' punch, uses mass shifting to approach the speed of light. He's also a fearsome kickboxer and his beast mode is a kangaroo.

Star Upper was the winner of a character design contest held by a Japanese magazine.

 

yeah, i know what you mean. I used to be on the fence about the whole idea of robot warriors that have not-so-ferocious, cute and harmless animals as beast modes. But it eventually grew on me, and now i actually think that the extremely distinct contrast between the bot modes and beast modes is a big part of the charm of BW II and BW Neo.

I think the Japanese took the concept of Rattrap’s character design to a whole new level and just went crazy with it.

The Prime1 Studios Optimus Primal arrived on Thursday. He's a fantastic sculpt. I will say I greatly underestimated how large he'd actually be. I had bought a few more Detolfs I was going to put him and megs in, but there's no way that is going to work. He weighs in at 63 lbs, so even if he could fit, I don't think I'd trust the glass to support him. I'm going to order a case for him and display him on a stand separately until Megatron comes out in a year or so. Primal kept being delayed, he was supposed to be out last September-November, so overall I would say the worst part of obtaining this guy was the long string of delays.

I was able to get my order in for the exclusive battle mask head you'll see in the pictures, which I figured would be my favorite, as it always is on the toys/MPs, but it doesn't quite look right to me, so I will probably use the open mask with no teeth showing, but it is nice to have options.

Also, sorry, his bad luck never ends.


Here's a comparison with the other Primal Statues from over the years. Did I mention he's huge?

Nice collection @Sracsose. The Prime1 Studios statues look like really nice products but there something a little 'off' about Primal's face (on all counts) for my liking. Still he and the forthcoming Megatron will make excellent centrepieces for your collection, providing you can find some way of displaying them.

 

Damn I’ve gotta stop looking at pics of those Prime 1 statues! I’m just the kind of person who’s dumb enough to spend money he doesn’t have on something so awesome.
The Megatron one is utter perfection; almost to the point where I wish it didn’t exist just so I wouldn’t be able to feel the sorrow of not being able to have it!

Do we have any resident digi-bashers in here? I'm curious how a particular colour scheme might look:

Magnaboss, but with Ironhide as Big Convoy, Prowl as Lio Convoy and Silverbolt as a crow.

Brown, white and black... I don't know if it would work. Maybe with some red and blue detailing worked in perhaps.

I would have liked that statue at half that size. 1:4 is too large for my collection.

It's coming along, and its getting longer than I expected. But I am really happy with how its coming. I'm hoping to finish it Tuesday, but it may be Wednesday before I finish.
