Yes. Exactly. POTP NEEDS a Star Saber. Such a missed opportunity.

 

Around the Seattle area, the only "classics" Beast figure that shelf warmed was Cheetor. I don't think the was a great figure though.

That being that, I do actually prefer more robotic beast modes over those trying to look organic. I still bought all the "classic" Beast Wars figures though.

 

As someone who voted for Primal, it just seems unfair that we voted without knowing exactly what the gimmick of the line would be.

Because I love this Optimal Optimus. I really do. I will buy it and a Primal Prime repaint.

But good lord, we should've gotten Star Saber. It's such a stupidly perfect fit for the line that it's absurd.

 

This is the same for every single toy that is made in the Transformers fandom ever. To imply that this is some special thing that relates to BW is beyond ignorant. This is the way our fandom is, go look at literally any other reveal thread on this forum, especially ones relating to G1 characters. Where were you for the entirety of Combiner Wars? Or the reveal and release of Fortress Maximus? Or any MP ever?

I am confused by this opinion. The gimmick of the Leader figures in this line are characters that are upgraded by the Matrix of Leadership and given new bodies. That is exactly what Optimal Optimus was in the show.

 

He fits as well as Optimus prime and Rodimus Prime, the optimus prime that Potp prime is based on was never an Orion pax that combined with a trailer and hot rod never combined with a trailer to become Rodimus Prime so the gimmick is just as forced with those two

This has been discussed at length, at least in other threads, but primal was upgraded by having two sparks in his body, not by the matrix

 

It works with the lore better than Star Saber, admittedly, but as far as the toys are concerned, the gimmick works better with Star Saber than it does for... pretty much any other character out there. And if we're more concerned about fitting with the lore, then we're saying Sentinel Prime fits in with Titans Return better than Hardhead. Which is pretty silly.

 

Honestly I wish Starsaber wasn't on the list. Who has a connection to a character who has never appeared in Western media? -And looks more like a Gundam from SEED. While Optimal Optimus would not have been my first choice I'd rather him than Starsaber.

That said, if Primal Prime is made, ALL WILL BE FORGIVEN lol

BTW I think Hasbro wanted to make Starsaber, I mean who would have guessed Primal would win.

They did. It's called "Primal Prime", and it was really popular.

in the Beast Wars TV show yes, but not in reference to the PotP evolution gimmick and the figure’s toy bio, which states he evolved into Optimal Optimus after receiving the Matrix.

 

Really hope we get a Primal Prime repaint with faceplate head. I've always liked those colors over Optimal Optimus's colors.

 

I really wish I could like this, but honestly...the original Beast Wars version is just plain better, the integration of Primal feels really poor and hurts him as a figure himself (seriously, the hoverboard mode is stupid and it makes his robot mode look worse than it should).

Really let down by this.

In regards to the stickers, do these come pre-applied? Or on some kind of sticker sheet?

Pre-applied. And not well and sometimes over molded detail, unfortunately.

 

You'd think that they would make sure to mold figures in such a way that it wouldn't hinder the details of the mold and not make the stickers look like a peeling mess within a month.

No, Rodimus/Hot Rod is the best of the POTP leaders. That's not saying he doesn't have flaws, but on a purely 'execution of the intended gimmick' level, he does it perfectly. Every one of his 4 modes functions as it should:

Hot Rod bot mode: check! is it the BEST Hot Rod toy ever made? maybe not, but it is him!
Hot Rod car mode: check!
Rodimus winnebago mode: check!
Rodimus robot mode: check!

As for Optimus, well, we never saw Pax as a vehicle, so he presumably could have been just a cab....

And Primal? Since when did he ever become a surfboard?

Ding ding ding! what i've been saying since the voting began! And with the MP toy out, a POTP Star Saber would be... how did someone describe POTP Optimus's engineering... oh yes, a "poor man's Masterpiece". The engineering was already done. Downsizing it into leader-sized would have been a breeze.

 

There's a KO, slightly retooled Primal Prime out there, but I cannot find it. It was released a few months ago.
