Going to a Toy R'Us store always made me happy. It's gonna break my heart when TRU closes.

I'm still very hopeful as well, that some incarnation of the brand will re-emerge from all this.
I think they were just way too spread out, I think smaller, more focused stores about half the size is all they need.
KB Toys was always over a barrel having to pay the proportionately higher mall rent costs, but I think keeping their locations in
strip malls and just downsizing should help them out a little bit....

The only way this affects TT is if Hasbro pulls out of the MP line due to lack of a sales outlet, in which case TT bears the full cost of MP development.

I imagine that barring a major retailer wanting to be the US MP retailer, there'll still be the Hasbro Toy Shop. It's not a bad avenue for Hasbro's MP line given that those collectors probably don't mind waiting for something to arrive in the mail or need to physically see the toy before buying (as opposed to say parents buying for kids). Hasbro Toy Shop would take the nightmare stalking out of the equation for the higher demand MP's. The manufacturer knows exactly when/if more stock is going to show up on the website.

In any case, I don't wanna grow up friends, I'm a Toys 'R Us kid... for the next few weeks at least.

There is a reasonable chance that they will survive.

Uh...Hasbro is really fumbling that ball. Just look at the BBTS thread. People are crying that they're charging MSRP after being delivered to LAST and having a significant number of customers flake on preorders so often that they've supposedly got a semi-secret policy pushing flakes to the end of the line when they get shorted. Meanwhile, some reliable customers are ordering WAY less Hasbro through small shops in favor of imports or niche products. As Hasbro grows, they are telling everybody smaller than Walmart to fuck off ever more frequently. When they have exactly two customers, Walmart and Amazon, either one of them choosing to play hardball will destroy them.

That is old school. Spent many hours looking at toys in there. It was where I got my G1 Jetfire.

Van Leunens was the greatest store in the history of the world. Swallens was right behind it. God, I miss those stores.

I think you are underestimating the impact that volume purchasers like Toys R Us has on the toy manufacturer. While we adults may be fine buying toys online without ever having seen or touched them, many parents and your children don't shop that way. Many kids don't know that they want something until they see it. Toys are one of those things that I think you need B&M stores for in order to move the volume of product necessary to sustain the industry.

Well, it's confirmed then. Sad day for toy fans and children who never grew up everywhere. I have fond memories of going to TRU during the 80's with my dad and just being floored by all the cool Transformers and G.I. Joe toys.

It does leave me wondering what will happen to the TRUs in Japan. I rarely get anything from there due to the prices being more expensive than other retailers like Amazon.co.jp and elsewhere, admittedly. I might go pick up an Infernicus later on though from J-TRU, and hopefully SS Thundercracker.

Sad to see them go, but it was inevitable. My local TRU has been a ghost town for years, never more than one customer in the store at a time except for Christmas, when I'd see maybe two or three cars outside. I hope everyone who loses their job over this has good luck in finding more work, and I hope the knuckleheads at the top of this mess don't get to enjoy a nice vacation anytime soon.

You know, I don't think I'm allowed to be sad about this. I certainly didn't buy anything from them for a long time. Can't remember the last time I bought something from TRU. Even when I was young I didn't bother my parents to buy much, beyond my first few Transformers. I certainly didn't help generate profit by buying their wares.

Depressing to see them go, but I didn't notice much when they were here. And yes, obviously the rational thing is to blame capitalism and not the people who exploit it. Totally the system's fault.

I can\'t say that I have good memories with TRU, but it\'s still sad to see them go. I got the first wave of TR deluxes at TRU, and only 1 POTP figure and TLK figure as well. I didn\'t really have any luck, but that doesn\'t mean I don\'t worry for those who will loose their jobs. Hopefully they\'ll be able to find a job they enjoy. I\'m hoping I can find a Studio Series Thundercracker before it\'s too late, and now I\'m considering buying an Infernocus. I may also see if they\'ll have the new Pacific Rim 2 figures on sale, but now I\'m sounding selfish. I\'m sad to see them go, but I guess that\'s the world we live in.

I know it does not effect Canada right now. But I feel emotional that Toysrus is closing in the States. Whenever I am on vacation in the States, I use to search the map for Toysrus so I can get what I can't in Canada. But now that this is happening, I have less reason to go down south.

Um, I don't think so? KB Toys was bought in the 90s by Big Lots, and owned by them until they had their 2nd bankruptcy in a couple years.

To the people who are blaming capitalism itself, don’t. We’d be derailing this thread into rule 3 territory. This day is depressing enough as it is.

Ditto. I wish them good luck finding a new job. Hopefully unemployment takes care of them until they can get back on their feet.

Honestly that's how I figured it would go too, a slow lingering fate where it would be years before the last of the stores closed. I didn't see it coming that it would happen so fast.

Wonder what's going to happen to Toysrus exclusive Thundercracker now.

Man I miss Hecks, Hills, and Family toy warehouse. And I too am from WV. At least we still have Magic Mart-outdated toy section but always has hidden gems. Heck, ours had 1986 line G1 when G2 was hitting the major chains.
