Putting down the old blind dog is never a bad move.

I'd argue that taking the children was more of a bad move than this

I think this was the best move they could've made under the circumstances.

Hasbro seems fully aware of the TF movies' bad rap, and Bay's bad rap in general. TLK proved that ignoring this was no longer profitable, nd audiences are far more critical than they used to be. Getting someone who has actually made a good movie to do Bumblebee is probably one last attempt to squeeze some revenue out of the existing movie series whilst also ending on a (hopefully for them) critical high point. Assuming Bumblebee is an actually good movie that gets good press, it'll be the perfect way to end the old series and segue into a new trilogy free of the negative stigma of Bay's films. "Oh shit, they actually made a good Transformers movie? Oh look, now they're going to make ones that are completley different than the old shitty ones? Cool!"

Assuming, of course, Bumblebee and a hypothetical new series are actually good. Or at least much better.

I still think it's pretty incredible (not in a good or bad way) that it took ten years for the original movies to finally peter out. Like, they weren't even good, and yet lasted a full decade with five films.

The lack of a real Transformers movie game was to me the first sign of all this.

The competition has really changed over the last 10 years. The top ten domestic films in 2007 were Spider Man 3, Shrek the Third, Transformers, Pirates of the Caribbean At World's End, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, I am Legend, The Bourne Ultimatum, Nation Treasure Book of Secrets, Alvin and the Chipmunks, and 300. The top ten domestic films of 2017 were Star Wars the Last Jedi, Beauty and the Beast, Wonder Woman, Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2, Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle, Spider Man Homecoming, It, Thor Ragnarok, Despicable Me 3, and Justice League.

Not just the competition at the box office but streaming has really changed our entertainment options. In 2007 Netflix started their streaming service so Transformers didn't have to compete with people binge watching stuff like Stranger Things, Altered Carbon, or Marvel shows like Daredevil and Luke Cage. Hulu didn't launch until 2007. Amazon wouldn't start their streaming service until 2011.

I hope the reboot CGI character designs will be similar to TF1/DOTM :/

I would love a reboot with new producers, new writers who write in advance, new directors, new characters and then slowly introduce the more popular characters we know in future installments

My exact sentiments. Bay’s transformers movies, with the exception of the first one, as bad as they were managed to last 10 years with 5 movies.

What more if the movies were actually good?

This was the right thing to do. Audiences are obviously over Bayformers. Transformers needs a fresh start with talented filmmakers.

Transformers wouldn't have been successful without Bay. The action scenes are the only reason they made money. They would have bombed like GI Joe and Battleship without it

And that I still give bay credit for bringing the Cybertronians to life and for really giving us the baseline live-action aesthetics. As I’ve said before without him, we probably wouldn’t have gotten the same aesthetic we’ve come to know from transformers. I own all five bayverse movies. But, after 10 years and 5 movies, the right time has come to pass the torch and hopefully a well ironed-out story, fully developed characters with personalities where they belong in that world interacting and forming relationships with humans and other Cybertronians, a tight and coherent story/stories, solid world-building.

I’m sad to see the movies end, but I guess it was time. I still don’t get all the complaints from the last decade... especially from actual fans of the franchise. The movies always felt very “G1” to me.

Still, I wish they could’ve officially wrapped things up in a sixth movie, The Last Knight ended kind of openly.
