Thanks man. I can’t stress it enough - I really want to be wrong. I want to be convinced that the Beast Wars and MPM stuff is just an abberation - a blip to be waited out and then the good times will roll again. But I don’t believe that’s true. I believe this IS the line now - Beast Wars is the base and G1 the exception. (And not incidentally, noticed the Beast Wars characters (literally) creeping into the comic last issue?) And you know what - some people are going to love that, and that’s fine. And no, Masterpiece G1 isn’t dead, but there will be far fewer added over time. I mean, the only G1 MP we’re waiting on is the laziest possible repaint of Hot Rod - put a clear windshield on, add a drop of brown to the plastic mix, paint some pants on him, done. Says it all.

I understand this thinking, but it seems MPMs are the base now, but G1s are still in the lead over BW. We'll see how this year shakes out, but we've still only gotten one new BW mold a year for the last three years. Everything past Dinobot in July is still wide open, right? ;)  And like I said, it'd be a break from the norm since '12 not to get a new licensed carbot this year (unless TT sees licensed MPMs as taking on that role). So there's still reason to hope that we'll get a car guy and Blaster before year's end!

@Sam , I'm with you. I love the same shit I've loved since I was a kid with nearly the same level of obsession - TFs, comics, art, dinosaurs, etc... I've been a huge fucking dork all my life and I don't see that stopping at this point. I don't look at the MP hobby as a bunch of boxes I want to tick off so I can cash out - I love the slow trickle, the whole process from reveal to release, then enjoying the shit out of the figure while wondering and speculating who's next! The thought of it ending one day is a bummer!

Why not both? FT is offering it...

Automatically stop? No, but I plan to be done before I hit 50. Not so much because the number means anything, but just because I don't have the same interest now that I did 5 years ago. If I wasn't so close to 'finishing' my collection, I'd probably have already called it quits. It's more a burden at this point than it is fun. But I'm one figure away from a full season one line up and probably 4-8 characters away from having all the characters I want. I would be interested in combiners, too, but I don't think I'm willing to pay for them...plus they'd keep me in the game for another 5-10 years or more.

I don't think MPMs are the base. It's just a coincidence that the 10th anniversary coincided with the latest live action movie...and now leads into the next live action movie...in a very short time span. They are trying to hype it up as much they can, hoping merchandise will help movied and vice versa. We all know how receptive people are to the movies lately.

I'm just waiting for this phase to be over so I can go back to enjoying what actually made this line the juggernaut that it is.

I was one of the guys who was a completionist in this line, buying at least 2 of each release. WAS. Now there are very noticeable ugly holes for me and my money has gone elsewhere.

I always go back to marketing 101...it's always more expensive to gain a customer than to retain a loyal one. If you want to venture out to different things, fine. But don't lose sight of the hands that fed you!

It's not so much "turn 50 and full stop," it's just a good age to take stock and evaluate. I have no children, one sibling, and two nieces. Nobody to pass this stuff on to, in other words, and if I suddenly drop dead, I'm leaving a helluva burden behind for my survivors to dispose of. My wife is in generally poor health, and I'm really not expecting her to still be working in ten years. At a point, more stuff needs to be leaving this house than entering it. Also it gets harder to move around as we age, and I really shudder to think about approaching increasing infirmity and only then starting to try to sell off our collections (she's got her own room of stuff too).

I get why this seems obvious to think, but bare in mind that MPM and BW has just started and they have plenty characters to choose from. Maybe they were in development for years and this is why there are so many releases. G1 has only a few figures left when you just count the Ark Crew and they are almost all difficult to do license whise.

As I stated some pages ago... I don't see a pattern in TTs Release scedule. They simply bring the character when he (or she) is done. They miss opportunities like MP 38 Megatron or aniversaries of any kind. Any pairing of bots in some episodes is no indicator of who is next. They simply have no plan. They design figures and if rhey are good enough, rhey will eventually come out.

I really wish the new cassettes are a sure shot for blaster but I bet TT will just do their random thing and bring the figure which is ready next.

As for MPMs...hmm, I really don't think them doing very long. They have only a handful of Characters. Some of them were killed within minutes. Beast Wars could be another parallel Series... How many figures do we got there? Like 3?

Calm down, G1 is't dead, maybe they just hold their breath to do something impossible.

We have three MPM's, one BW, 2 repaints G1/BW, so l suspect three G1's to round out the year. Blaster, Trailbreaker, Hoist, are my best guesses.

I really wish they could do more G1 and Bw's. One BW a year is just not enough, that will take 10 years just to get through the introduction characters. G1 just has so many, they need the pace picked up a little. They could just throw out some smaller releases, aka mini-vehicles.

I would seriously feel bad for my wife if I kicked leaving her to get rid of all my shit on her own...never minding any other aspect of it. I honestly think she'd just get a dumpster and throw most of it out and not care about getting something for it. What she'd get for it is a lot of space!

    Ebay:
My wife knows a couple of my friends (three, actually) she could turn to that would help sell it for commission or something.

If I die later, who knows though. I've been focusing more and reducing lately anyways. Tending to slide more towards higher end stuff (hence my participation in this thread so much lately).

    Yeah I get that.

Man, I just hope we can all look back on this time of doubt and frustration in a few months and think 'boy, we really thought the G1 releases were ending? hah!'

MP-40 is cool, and an obvious repaint what with Firebolt already designed by Hasui years ago, but our only other hope now for a G1 release in the first half of the year is the TTS. I'd be down for Black Ironhide or Red Sunstreaker, but I'd be pretty bummed if we didn't get any MP exclusive at all.

September - December could bring us some really nice stuff, but they'd better start announcing it already.

I honestly don't think it's ending, but at the very least, this is a very obvious drought (unless they either have something huge to announce or are having an unprecedented short time between announcement and actual release on something).

That or there IS a big holy grail that's being intensely negotiated upon re: licensing, and they're kind of stalling before revealing it (Jazz or Mirage are the two most problematic in terms of getting everyone on board, so I'd wager one of those two, and that's a big IF: this is pure speculation on my part, but hey, that's what the thread is about).

I've already told my wife to use my phone to go onto facebook and get several people from the local toy collecting group to come give her a fair price/sell it for her (if I get hit by a bus)

My nephew is smart he'll figure ebay out.:lol  I would prefer to enjoy them while Im here though. My biggest problem right now is the pace this once a year new mold is not helping anything. I started only because I thought I had a good chanc of seeing my favorite characters done in a reasonable amount of time. With these dead spots lately,Im constantly debating to I want to continue to see this through or is it time to fold up shop and find something else.

I’m redecorating the room I keep my collection in so I’ve been boxing up my MPs for safe keeping. I don’t get a lot of spare time and it might take me weeks to complete the job. When you see them all together like this you realise what a good run this line has had so far. Long may it continue as it’d be tragic if it ended before the ‘84 / ‘85 & ‘86 movie cast was completed.

There’s one release though that I want more than any other - Devastator! None of the third party figures really do it for me in a masterpiece sense. UW is more like it but fucks up Long Haul and several other elements. I want a an MP Devy that’s G1 all the way.

On that note has anyone had first hand experience of MF17 Hercules? They look like really fun, accessible little figures. Obviously they’re not on an MP level but I feel drawn to them for some reason.

Crushing Devastator in carrier mode was pretty dope. Broadside's greatest moment! :lol

Speaking of Perceptor, I don't see a lot of speculation about him. Not the sexiest alt mode, I know, but I consider him a key G1 character. One of the few characters to have a major presence in S2, the Movie, and S3. I have the FansToys version, and he's pretty good (expect for the face sculpt), but Takara could knock him out of the park no problem. No complicated transformation there.

I agree about the Insecticons, love them. Can't say I have the same love for Reflector (I know they're S1, and that's enough for a lot of fans, but they're non-entities to me), but if Takara makes them, I'd probably buy them. I think the Insecticons have a much better shot.

No, I'm not quitting collecting TFs at 40 or 50 (I'm 38 now), though I may cut back some (I'm already trying to do that, actually, with anything that's not vintage G1, MP, or Generations).

Great summation of how I feel about the line too. I'm grateful for whatever we get with G1 MPs, but I'm not getting my hopes up either. I do think Takara has more surprises ahead than we might think though, and I don't think limited repaint potential automatically rules out any S1, S2, or Movie character. MP-40 is proof that Takara can wring out redecos we haven't even thought of.

I haven't been following FT's Blitzwing, but I do love FT in general, so I'll definitely check in on the dedicated thread in 3P. :D

There have been two, count 'em, two, MP reveals this month, MPM Ironhide and Shadow Panther, and still there's talk of a drought, and delays, and general hand-wringing in here... some months we go with no reveals, this month we get two and people still want more. It's January. The schedule is full through September. There won't be another reveal until February at the earliest, and if there is, that figure won't come out till October. Relax.
