Actually that’s not the reason they’re in this predicament. Years ago a company bought them and took them private. They then put all of their debt, billions of dollars of debt on toys r us. This company has done the same thing before in the past as it did it with KB toys. Toys r us would actually be making a lot of money if they weren’t so far in debt because of this company doing this. You can try and look up on the Internet as there areplaces that break this down a lot more than I just did. It’s really sad to see a company go like this because of a bigger company bought them just to get rid of their own debt.
Retail as an entire industry was hit very hard by the leveraged buyout scam. Insurance companies are another popular target. They're usually sitting on tons of cash in the form of premiums. That can be leeched out for a long time. When it starts affecting actual business functions, it's only the sick, injured, and dead at risk, so the legal fight they can put up is limited. Doing God's work, ladies and gentlemen.
So Masterpieces will only be sold through online retailers now? Like how it's always been? I know I should feel sad but if that is the only way of getting them outside of Japan then I guess I'll have to accept that.
I just fear if Toysrus Closes in Canada I will have no where to go to find any toys. I mean Walmart is the only other store in Canada that sells toys at regular retail.
See if your Toys R Us store is on the closure list Looks like Toys R Us is closing 180 stores in the United States :/ 1 in 5 stores are going to be shut down. Pretty tragic. "Toys R Us plans to close up to 182 stores as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization plan. Going-out-of-business sales are scheduled to begin in February and be completed in April."
Looks like the ones near where I live and where I currently work are safe, though some other ones not too farther off from work are now closing. The one where a friend frequents near his work in Burbank is safe too, so he'll be relived.
I was thinking recently, if Hasbro has it's own online store why did they even sell Masterpieces and other exclusive figures at Toys R Us if they knew they would be in this much trouble? If Takara Tomy can have their own online store to sell masterpieces, why can't Hasbro do the same. All I can say is if TRU does go under, I'll be saving a lot of money by buying Masterpiece figures online.
CarRobot - I think Hasbro wants TRU to do well since it gives them an alternative to Walmart and Target. As Hasbro loses retailers, the few left have more negotiating power over Hasbro when setting wholesale prices.
Hasbro may have to go cheap, and let the independent E-Bay sellers and other toy dealers sell their toys as well... helps those sellers make money so they don't have to collect unemployment
Wow, it looks like slaughter is bowing his head in a moment of silence... and while I don’t see any TF representatives, I’ll presume prime is pictured inside his trailer in whatever dimension it goes to while he’s in bot mode. I guess, I already grew up, I’m a toys were us kid. Since there are no toys at toys were us, That you can play with...
...no bikes no planes nor video games The biggest toy store there WAAAAAS I had to grow up, but maybe if I dint Toys were us maybe would still be around..
Perhaps evolution means the TF specific online stores are Hasbro's best distributors now; which one is the most popular one?
Well either production is gonna decrease or online retailers will stock a lot more product. My Walmart and Target sure aren't picking up the slack when it comes to stocking transformers. The availability for Power of the Primes, TLK, and RID here in RI is a goddamn joke. But Studio Series is everywhere.
Maybe it means they need to learn to embrace that estore that has...Ya know, THEIR name on it. Instead of paying the markup to the guys like BBTS or TFsource, I would be willing to pay that markup to Hasbrotoyshop IF it means new product is available there first. Like they did for studio series.
...big bad toy store has been getting exclusives directly from hasbro for a while now, in fact hasbro featured their logo as a next-generation retailer during last year's stockholder presentation...
