I think it has far more to do with marketing and legal than any in-fiction explanation.

If people would read the bio they would see this isn't shattered glass Rodimus, this is Fallen/corrupted Rodimus making the Decepticon insignia more feasible

 

The shipping cost appears to be calculated, not a flat rate. It shows as $31.70 for me.

Sure the PotP story isn't that he's from Shattered Glass, but that's clearly what the toy is based on. It's fair for people to wish it had the symbol to match the character it's supposed to look like.

 

Guys guys..the non Shattered Glass logo fudge up is easily fixable. Use Reprolabels. Duh.  

 

My little Wal-Mart was one of if not the first reported sightings of Prime rumble and kup. So it happens.

 

I know. That's exactly what I'll be doing. I know the bio was never going to be the sg bio but it it would have been a really cool nod anyway to have the SG logo tampod on insted. Yes it's a little petty but it makes it feel a little less special without it.

It might have been a little better to use the MP-9B colors for rodimus unicronus and just let SG Rodimus be SG Rodimus instead.

 

Except Shattered Glass is a universe where Autobots are willfully evil and the heroes are the Decepticons are the bad guys.

That's not what is happening here. This isn't an evil Rodimus from an alternate dimension, it's *this* Rodimus being corrupted and turned into a Decepticon against his will.

If they were doing Shattered Glass (or some variation thereof) then yeah...it'd be weird if the icons weren't switch around. But that's not what they're doing right now.

And, honestly, I'd love for Hasbro to throw caution to the wind and take 18 months to sell nothing but Shattered Glass figures.

 

Thank Christ it ended up with a Decepticon insignia instead of the ridiculous SG one.

 

The true travesty is the fact potp Optimus has grey fists instead of blue.

And yeah the logo can easily be remedied with a repro label, the thing is already slathered in stickers as is.

 

I seem to remember hearing that the SG logos were only on the hand-painted prototype but all of the renders had the Decepticon.

 

I don't love every SG deco, but Volcanicus would be off the charts awesome. Enigma of chaos creates the Herald of Trypticon. And SG Megatron from Black Shadow would be sick.

I could see OP also being corrupted and either (or both of) Primal and Star Saber (presuming he's coming) being the heroes who save the day. A wave 5 Optimus Unicronus/Star Saber would be pretty nice . . .

 

I assume that's where PotP is heading storyline wise. Prime is dying, Rodimus is corrupted, so Primal has to take on the Matrix.

Center the next line entirely around Unicron as the titan figure and a bunch of lesser known Autobots stepping up to face off with corrupted heroes. The upside is you could mix in new molds but at the same time fill out cases with "corrupted" or "heroic" repaints of various characters rather than just repacked stuff.

Hell, if you want to have some fun: Cybertron is completely corrupted...which means it's up to Primal and the citizens of Eukaris to rise up as the universe's last hope. Except there's also some traitors who'd readily serve Unicron to gain power. And behold: BEAST WARS!

Treat it like the MCU. Prime Wars was Phase 1. Phase 2 is the birth of Optimal Optimus Primal and the Beast Wars as he assembles his team and suppress the traitors on his planet. Eventually coming to the Hasbro equivalent of Shattered Glass as Primal and Prima team up to free Cybertron from the corruption of Unicron. Creating Heroic Autobots out of guys like Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, etc.

(And if I did an SG Volcanicus, I'd have him *be* Trypticon. Retool the combiner head and canon-ize Slash's tail mode.)

 

Not to get too caught up in my own fan-booking, but if you really wanted to screw with people...after you do Shattered Glass, part 3 of the second phase is reconciling the idea that the new Prime is a beast with the technological Cybertron.

There, I've now given Hasbro an excuse to bring in some Beast Machines stuff. And also an excuse to *really* have fun and give classic G1 characters beast modes to play into the reformatting aspect and justify using a mix of biological and technological looking beasts for repaint purposes.

Oh, what's that you say? All of this was just a long con to justify repainting Predaking as Magnaboss so they can focus on the second Titan class of the year being (Tri)Predacus?
