Overall, I'm really happy with how many new, interesting characters the series has added to the mythos.

And seriously, Rung is great.

 

An "OMG NERDETTE", a useless green alpha Trion, stereotypical insane bad guy, edgy mcedge and his boyband, and mr "so painfully obviously a walking McGuffin". I agree that adding new additions keeps a franchise like this strong but only if they actually add anything.

that's part of why i hate her...cutesy little characters i find annoying...especially ones that are mascots for the psychos....who turned into one note wastes upon their deaths. i feel she's the last remnant of an idea that went wrong in the end. i felt the less we knew about the DJD the better they were...but that 'spotlight' issue on them that introduced her kinda ruined the appeal of them for me....they went from scary boogeymen to edgey mcedgelords that try way too hard to be 'dark'

plus Scruv's quote here is basically everything i hate about nickel:

the premise of her is just downright stupid to me. the commander nickel line last issue made me cringe so hard i had to put the book down for a minute.

recently i've come to the conclusion that i hate all of roberts OG characters. looking back all his villains are exactly the same, just typical boring one note sadists that get off on body horror imagery, and most of his heroes are forgettable in the end. like when riptide showed up in the mutineer trilogy i literally went "huh...i forgot about him". i feel rung just takes up space at this point, he stopped being interesting after season one and the only thing that separates anode from the utter forgettables like ambulon and riptide is that her personality is just awful....i don't know how the entire crew has put up with her for so long and just haven't left her on a barren moon for being a smug insufferable waist of ink.

but as i said i'm willing to hate anode a little less if nickel dies..everything about nickel is just stupid to me...who she was, what she is now, her design...she's just the worst. at the very least anode is new and can be less shitty later....nickel is what nickel is...and i'd like to see her die instead of just becoming the mommy character for the scavengers...which she totally will be.

 

The Nickel cover reminds me of an opposite version of the Megatron and Tailgate cover from Season 2. 

 

So apparently people don’t like Nickel, because of course they don’t.

 

The whole point of the DJD issue was to expose them as the sted head moronic nobodies they really were and how far Megatron strayed from the path by allowing said idiots idolatry of him come to define Decepticonism.

Nickel is the sole survivor of a massacre and gets picked up by these wankers? Of course she ends up a bit of a prick.

The Scavengers meanwhile represent the everymen, the guys who Megatron initially stood up for but ultimately failed, the guys whose alternate selves might just get a break now he's got that second chance in the Functionist Universe. They're also the ones who in the here and now might still have it in them to make a difference without him when it matters. See Misfire and Grimlock, Spinister and the Roboids and a lot more besides.

Nickel falling in with them is contrived and rushed. But it is also deserved. These are the lads who should have saved her in the first place.

I hope all their stories get a fitting conclusion, things seem to be wrapping up.

Indeed. Not every Decepticon has to be a sadist, unrepentant jackhole, a repentant jackhole, or a KO Starscream.

The Scavengers are just people, and for lack of a better term some of the most human characters in the series. With all the faults and good things that entails.

I\'ve missed scorponok. He was the one you I always wanted as a kid but was never going to get. Plus he was a main character is the marvel comics when I was collecting them monthly 

 

Count me as someone who loves the new editions, especially Rung. Who is best boy... And probably won't appear in anything outside the comics  

Nickel is a really interesting to me so I'm excited to see what they do with her and the Scavengers.

Tarn's failing is that he allowed Megatron to occupy the place of his own conscience, so that when he thought to himself, "Maybe torturing folks... is bad???", he could just rationalize it with, "Naw, it's not like I'm enjoying it -- in fact, I'm wearing this mask so no one can see how truly conflicted I am about it all. But it is my duty, as defined by Megatron himself in this particular passage of Towards Peace."

The moral thing to do, would have been to torture those folks because he knew it was right, without recourse to Megatron. He shouldn't have used the mask as something to hide behind; he should have more fully identified with it.

 

Rung is the key to it all.
