I hated their Kup at first. His render isn't bad.

I hope to finish S01-2 This year and I'm only cherry picking S03-4. Then I'm done with MP and I'll just grab legends.

 

I'm still iffy on their Kup. He looks good and backpack cleans up nicer than FT. The face sculpt, his face looks kinda wide, to me at least.

 

I agree. I still think FT won this round.

 

So ... if you don't want to do the mod to the wheel kibble, you shouldn't pick up this guy. Without it, there's a lot of plastic stressing required to get the waist kibble tucked away ... and since all that plastic is attached to pin joints, those are also being stressed. Break a pin joint, and that's it.

Even if you're willing to do the mod, I'd still be hesitant to pick this guy up.

There's a report a few pages back of one of the side backpack pieces breaking off. This doesn't surprise me at all, because that entire front end is held together by parts exerting a LOT of pressure on each other. In fact, the front end seems designed in a way to prevent transformation back to bot mode; you have a bunch of parts that push hard against each other, with no clear way to separate them without adding more stress. I usually have to get those side pieces out by pushing down hard on the leg kibble and the wheel kibble to free them; that gives me just enough leverage to lift the front part of the backpack, which nudges the front end out and up. It's clear to me that those side pieces are the key to the whole thing, and therefore the most vulnerable to random breaks.

There's a bunch of other random weirdness (spring loaded wheels can't and won't stay sprung forever; who thought putting die cast on a SLIDING pin joint was a good idea???), but you get the gist. Whoever designed this apparently forgot about the concepts of tolerances, clearance, and excessive force. He's only worth getting because there are no better alternatives at the moment, and even then I'd say you want to leave him in one mode.

2017 was a great year for this old-timer. 30 years strong! Pardon my wrongly applied stickers on the G1 toy. I was maybe 4 years old.

Kup was one of my first TFs. I'm glad he's getting some love from Hasbro/TT and FT lately. I still need to pick Koot up at some point.

Decided to go for the reissue of this. I do prefer the look of Locke still but I don't like the idea of waiting for it to come out, not liking the final product and then Koot being out of stock.

Worst case, I sell Koot at a bit of a loss and I consider it a rental
