Yeah. Well, unfortunately for you, just like science, what I said, even if you don't want to believe it, doesn't make it any less true.

Who else remembers when Five bucks got you a these days Deluxe sized transformer with great articulation? Iguanis, Rattrap, Gen 2 Cyberjets, where art thou?

I also remember when gas was under a dollar.
Point being, comparing those days with modern times isn't exactly fair.

Also, all the figures you mentioned are Scout/Legends scale. No modern deluxe is that small. Sure, many are smaller than previous deluxes, but at least compare apples to apples here.

It's a pretty fair comparisson, and this is more or less the same from Hasbro where we get less for more, and more. Here's the point though. It's kind of obvious that they put "Authentics" on the package to distinguish their products from lower priced KOs. It's a bet that someone will buy one of theirs instead of a KO, or off brand transformer. And if you really need to subname your product "Authentics" to differentiate it from other stuff, then the problem isn't the other product. The problem is your product sucks and you're hoping brand recognition and something that verifies it's authenticity is going to carry your product into someone's basket.

That said. Seriously, Optimus looks like shit.

Prices for things 22 years ago versus prices today? In no way is that a fair comparison.

Shall we talk about Dark of the Moon and it's scouts? You can try and excuse these things all you want, it's a bad product regardless.

There was no scout class for DOTM. The Commander class cost $8 and were smaller and less complex than previous scouts. Also, that was 7 years ago.

They were still far more complex then what we are receiving now, and if you go by third party prices, between then, and now, you don't see the same trends of less for more. So how is it that, Hasbro, which had more budget, and larger runs, and much lower costs, gives us less for more, and it's okay?

Yeah yeah yeah everyone hates everything no matter how well made and pricey or intentionally cheap and simplistic, as per usual. *Buys one of each.* Come at me. :p

Exactly! The size doesn't matter as much as the QUAILTY and PLAY VALUE does! However, when you have cheapskate marketing team in the head of the chain who doesn't understand or care about toy design, they think kids are dumb and tasteless as they're.

The basic permise and rational is, as techonolgy progress toys become cheaper to produce and have more and better design options. However, when you don't have *competition *caugh* Hasbro buying better toy compaines*caugh* you have no incentive to make good products for good prices. Weird enough, the only sort of toy I've seen getting improve steadily is Gunpla by Bandai which doesn't really have much of competition either, but Bandai, unlike Hasbro take pride in their products and don't try to reach out to live-action movie industry and such.

*Fortunately this situation start to change thanks for Kickstarter and online shops which enable one' to buy better toys that aren't sold in today mostly suckish toy stores

That was 25 years ago. Transformers and global/market/inflation situations were a lot different back then, let alone 10 years ago. 5 years ago $5 would get you a Legion figure.

I'm not even sure how Bandai's Gundam kits factor into this. Model kits are supposed to look good and accurate. They aren't mainline mass market toys made to survive play. Yes they have become far more detailed and refined over the years but they are models, looking good is the absolute primary goal. Master Grades went from using ABS plastic to going back to being predominantly PS due to better paint adhesion. Being mostly PS makes them less sturdy than before. However it doesn't matter because durability isn't what counts on a model kit, looks do. Gundam kits have gone up in price too. Gunpla = GUNdam PLAstic model meaning kits.

If you're talking Gundam figures, YES they've gotten better but their prices have become much higher. In 2002 I could buy an imported RX78 for $15. Last year the closest parallel would be the Robot Damashii VER ANIME RX78 which was $40+. Robot Damashii caters to collectors ages 15+.

Bandai mostly makes Gundam figures for adults, there isn't a mass market mainline equivalent to Transformers in Gundam that's aimed at kids. There hasn't been since Gundam AGE ended years back. This is also reflected in price. If you want a diecast Gundam figure you're going to be paying $100+.

As far as Bandai caring compared to Hasbro and being of higher quality, that's expected BUT debatable. There are a host of other various problems in their lines from Gundam and beyond and to veer into that further would throw this thread completely off topic. On some alleged "top of the line" Bandai lines I question their quality but again, off topic.

I'm beginning to wonder why some of you think a toyline aimed at stores like Dollar General and Big Lots should be on the level of Generations. Authentics isn't replacing the mainline. Take a look at other American toylines and look what $6 will get you. It won't get you much compared to 10 years ago and definitely compared to 25 years ago.

It's a nice little affordable bonus line to add a little to our hunts. I think this a brilliant move by Hasbro honestly.
Bet they fly off the shelves for that price.

Again, I point to the price of Third Party items, and also since you brought it up, the price of Tamashii, and Robot Damashii items over the past five or more years. They have remained static. Despite having lower production runs, and come with a lot more. Whereas with Transformers, we get less for more, year after year.

For Tamashii those prices have not remained static. If they did I would've continued buying.

Again a more fair comparison is going to target or Walmart or dollar general and what $6 gets you. Look at the main competitor's products be they by Mattel, Bandai of America, Playmates, et al. See what $6 gets you.

Until someone reviews them, we have only speculation on how good the plastic is going to be. Even then, it's a budget-level toy. It's like getting mad about a burger off a dollar menu. These are more for kids than anyone. And even then, they're not just the one-step changers.

    Heheh...
Any more incorrect comparisons for Shin knock down?

What I've learned here is that I apparently don't hate HasTak enough, and that I should be offended by the existence of these dollar store market figures.
    ...
    ...
    ...
    ...
    ...
But I don't hate them, and I'm looking forward to owning that Megatron and Starscream.
Guess I'm wrong in doing so?
    *le sigh*

Actually, they pretty much have, and no. You're cherry picking there. If you look at things from a wider and grander perspective, you will see that there is no excuse for us paying more for less. I have friends that work in the industry, so um, yeah. I think they know more than you.

Sorry, but I'm a bit more informed than him on the matter. So, yeah. No incorrect comparrisons here. Just arm chair debating. As for you, I think this is a more apt comparison for you're stance with Negan playing Hasbro, and you playing Rick.

Dollar store bottom of the barrel quality and priced plastic figures leading to people passive aggressively and obliquely making personal attacks on one another by comparing them to fictional TV show characters, on the basis of ostensibly superior plastic toy knowledge/familiarity: only in the Transformers community...
