I get your point, and I'll even allow that it's at least partly fair. But to use your earlier example, suppose Huffer's cab was kind of a reddish orange, and they updated the alt mode to look like a real truck. Sure, at a glance, he might look like Prime. But lets say the other details and colors are pretty much spot on. You'd still know it's Huffer once he transforms.

GT Definitely went with an extremely Prowlish alt-mode, and they colored it in a very Prowlish manner. No denying that. You look at him in bot mode, though, and it's pretty unmistakably Streetwise, white or not. The reds (although I'm still holding out hope they'll paint his ears) are spot on. Most of the black from the alt mode is moved to his back side. It's a Streetwise head, he's got his window chest, he's got his window shins, and he's got his forearm wheels. White instead of really super light almost white gray just doesn't bother me. If he were gray like Motormaster gray, maybe, but he's not, he's so light a gray that most people would say he's white, toy or toon, unless you have him with a whiter figure. It just happens to be the case that "whiter figure" includes most of the rest of the Protectobots.

And as for the alt mode, it's practically a miracle that G1 Streetwise was grayish at all. Like I said, basically all police cars in Japan (basically riot police are the exception) are white on top, black on the bottom. And in China they're pretty much all white with a dark blue markings*. Gray just isn't done.

*If I'm being totally fair, I'd be happy if they ditched the Japanese police deco for Chinese. He'd still be white, but definitely not Prowl.

 

I know right? It makes my face all tingly... in a good way.

Ok from what I can gather from their weibo account, someone posted a negative review and started insinuating that GT paid off reviewers on their weibo page. GT deleted their comment, which drew more attention to this supposed practice. I dunno what else happened but in the end GT decided to stop updating their weibo page. They're still around guyss

I could tell.

Namely their GT-03 IDW Optimus still had long term joint problems after the fix.

On weibo they posted a super short video of a shake test with only one short swing with not much movement visible in the thighs. On the contrary numerous Taobao reviews still said it had loose joints even for the fixed up version. Other message boards recommend tightening the screws of the thigh joint.

 

Looks like somebody at GT made a bad decision regarding Op Ex and now its exploded into a PR nightmare. I guess we'll see if they just ignore it and try to sweep it under the rug or go for a second try at fixing the problem and making it right. Still want Prime, but this sucks.

 

I think their prime looks gorgeous but I haven't picked it up because I keep hearing things about the loose legs. Was hoping they would fix later versions.

 

Why is there any blow up because of Prime? He's perfectly fine. Certainly no issues more serious than any other imperfections with any other figure.

 

I think the problem is they supposedly fixed it after the first run coupled with (based on what's been said by our forum members with connections to the Chinese scene) allegations of funny business with reviewers and subsequent bad handling of social media. Not really unusual, just bad decisions and bad reactions and who knows whatever fallout comes out.

 

Aside from the loose legs, those skinny ass lowerlegs just kill the otherwise great figure.
