The Powers of the Primes poll was to vote on who would become the next Prime alongside Optimus and Rodimus in Transformers lore(for some reason people wanted a guy who already had Prime is his name but thats another matter.) The press conference for it states that the winner would be featured in IDW’s Power of the Primes event, which has been teased for over a year now. As for Primal’s personality, in the poll he was actually listed as being “Chaotic Good”, and described as a warlord. Personally I hate Robert’s Star Saber because that is in no way Star Saber, and but this personality shift was part of the Hasbro poll and their decision. However this seems to be written by John Barber, who might give us a true Primal whose personality is more akin to his BW appearence. However something that people always seem to forget is that Primal went full extremist in Beast Machines, and spent the season two opener trying to deal with the fact he tried to commit genocide to fulfill his goals. Primal’s hands aren’t clean in the slightest, and no, pretending like BM doesn’t exist doesn’t make that aspect of lore go away.
It wouldn't be an optimal Optimus Primal if he were a villain, would it? Also, shitty crayon work? That's 90's Generation 2-riffic right there. I actually love seeing solid black shadows in the linework.
The posts in the preview threads are some of the greatest examples of why this fandom is so dumb sometimes. You're making this kind of leap out of literally nothing but a three page preview, despite the face that other Beast Wars characters were introduced years ago in this continuity and none of them have been antagonistic to date? THIS is where you magically get foresight? Cool story, bro.
Anyone else get the idea this is setting up the Mistress to go "I follow the Primes even though some are tyrants" and proceed to let Caminus and Cybertron to get nuked. Probably even a scene where she confesses that she swears loyalty to the primes in hopes of becoming one but later Onyx or LM just shoot her dead. Then Windblade scoffs at her corpse saying unlike the deceased mistress she woke up to not trusting blind faith.
The overall vibe the series has been building to is that Onyx feels as though the beast transformers were prejudice and possibly hunted and possibly eradicated in the times of Nova Prime. So this maybe his revenge against those who he felt wrong him and his people.
Her blind faith in the Primes might definitely proof to be her undoing. Or she gets a big reality slap in her face and suffers a big time crisis of faith like Melisandre from Game of Thrones.
Is it me, or do the fembots have like the worse luck in IDW? Shoot, the G1 cartoon had better showing for them in one episode. Even TFA had done them better.
This. Not to mention that even if Primal was an extremist in IDW at some point it's not like he can't change from that and be more like we usually think of him. There's a lot of story potential to be made form him and I also wouldn't be shocked if BW Megatron decides to backstab Oynx Prime in order to gain control over the beasts leaving Primal to stop him. I sure think so. She sadly isn't a great example of a religious leader in general even if she's not as bad as Tyrest. I'm still waiting for someone who does follow the faith of the Primes yet doesn't have blind loyalty to call her out on it. Truth be told I don't think so. Sure some of them go through bad stuff but it's not like they haven't had their share of victories and come out all right,Windblade being a recent example of being Cybertron's new leader. It's not different from most male characters who have luck that aren't any better if not worse in IDW. They especially have a lot more to do as characters when compared to how TFA treated them which only had them be either plot devices or love interests/victims.
I am just so disillusioned with anything IDW has done... and not of late. Furman\'s stories were building up slowly (as needed for a new comic franchise) but were going in the right direction. I wish we could get back to that, interesting stories focusing on smaller groups with some peroidic bigger events, instead of what seems like Apocalypse every Tuesday. Galvatron went out not with a bang but with a whimper, Sentinel fell off a cliff and that was that, we had undead Titans that just... resolved itself I think? And now they are throwing in every Beast Wars character who was not yet introduced (because they had a new toy that year, eh Rhinox, Waspinator, Rattrap?) under the literal wings of a villain who has such a name (Onyx Prime, really? Did he know he was going to be a supervillain when naming himself?) that I have seen in bad fanfics before only. Also, why does the linguist lady looks like she transforms into a hippie VW van with rainbow colors? And why does she have tentacle-dreadlocks?
That’s something people seem to forget, that characters, like people, can change. This is why I wanted Star Saber to win. He could have gone from his zealot-extremist IDW personality and changed into something more akin to his Victory incarnation. That character change would have been massive, and I would have loved to have seen Star Saber break down upon realizing he himself(like Primal) was willing to commit genocide for false reasons. Hopefully Primal will have a change of heart and be more like his BW, or even his late-BM personality.
Yes well Primal wasn't the only one. Let's not forget what happened to Rattrap, poor guy. And the reaction to the Oracle and the whole techno organic cybertron... Didn't the fan club retcon that to a Quintesion plot or something? We can't make out the colors, could be one of his repaints like Apeling. I don't see how you could pull that off for Star Saber without something like having him turn out to have been Shadowplayed. Though I did come up with an interesting idea to use for Star Saber. Make him a religious convert to Christianity. I think it'd be very interesting to see a Transformer who's converted to a human religion. Probably have him be a Catholic. As for Primal, we'll see if the new leader part even gets used. I mean Windblade just got elected that role in the comics, and they didn't exactly have everyone becoming headmasters for Titans Return.
He could even just become a religious leader, not a political one. It's been implied Mistress of Flame's not gonna be around forever since the visions in TF 50.
