    F.A.Q
    • What is this thread?
This thread is used to document my thoughts on Transformers: Robots in Disguise as I view the show for the very first time. The goal is to go in blind without any previous knowledge of any episode or plot point and express my thoughts and reactions with the TFW2005 community.

    • Why?

Because it's a whole lot of fun!
    • Can I contribute?
Of course! Forum goers are encouraged to voice their own opinions through out the course of the blog. You can do so by commenting on my own posts or writing up your very own blog entry!
    • Can I be a complete ass and spoil the show?
Technically yes, but you'll receive a prompt ban from this thread thanks to the support of the wonderful moderation team here on TFW2005. In addition, I'd like to ask you to please respect my decision of doing things completely blind. Even vague hints sometimes ruin the experience. You are of course allowed to discuss any spoilers you would like in the thread so long as they are hidden behind the SPOILER tag!
    • How often do you write entries?
In previous blogs, I've tried to make a few entries a week. Sometimes I'll do 7 a week, other times I'll write 1 a month. I prefer not to set a schedule as I often find myself breaking it and feeling awful because of it. With that being said, you should expect a minimum of 1 entry a week but ideally will see 3-5 instead.
    • Are you ever going to stop writing these blogs?
    God, I hope so.

As requested by @SeanTF1967, here are the top three Autobots and Decepticons from Transformers Prime that I would like to see return in RiD!

    Autobots:
    1. Smokescreen
    2. Bumblebee (This is cheating, right?)
    3. Wheeljack
    Decepticons:
    1. Predaking
    2. Knock Out
    3. Shockwave

Also, here's a list of character from previous series I'd like to see possibly appear during the run of the show.

    • Randal (Rumble)
    • Waspinator
    • Seaspray (Despite him being confirmed dead in Prime)
    • Hippie (Beachcomber)
    • Wreck-Gar
    • Cosmos
    • Hound
    • Ratchet
    • And for giggles, Tigerhawk.

Please remember not to spoil if any of these characters actually appear or not! Do not discuss episodes that haven't been reviewed yet without spoiler tags!

    Oh,wow.

    CaptianSlayer,I wish you luck.

RID201x,as far as it was annoying with SPOILER,it had good parts like when SPOILER and SPOILER were defeated.

Glad to see you back in action Captian!

Although I myself am not fond of RID 2015 in comparison to Transformers Prime, I hope that you enjoy it and have fun watching.

I can't wait to see your reaction to the series, and I hope that you can have fun while watching it and enjoy the series for what it is. Even through I'm in the minority that didn't hate RID2015, I can also understand the complaints that people have with the series.

I'm looking forward for your blog.

Thank you both for the kind words of encouragement!

Every blog I've done thus far has started with users saying similar things. I've yet to hate any of the shows the way others have. Hell, you would have thought Transformers: Prime was the anti-christ with all the negative things said about it. :p

I'm happy to go in with an open mind and see where we end up. :)

You are indeed correct. However, from what I've observed Transformers: Prime appears to have a very positive reputation outside of this website luckily.

Pilot (Part 1), Pilot (Part 2) and Trust Exercises

I wasn't sure I was going to like the animation style of this show but I adore it. The painted backgrounds are beautiful and everything is very bright and vibrant and sort of pops to life from scene to scene. It's a very unique style that I haven't seen before and I assume it's a cheaper method of production than the CGI Prime used since we've met a great cast of characters in the first three episodes alone.

Right off the bat the show seems to be more light-hearted than it's predecessor and that's something I like. The humor is plentiful and it doesn't take itself very seriously. The primary plot point is also something I really -really- like. The idea of hundreds of Decepticons being set free on Earth sets the show up to host plenty of characters to keep the roster fresh and it reminds me of all the cool villains you'd see in the old Teen Titans cartoon every week.

Speaking of the villains, I love the unique design of the four Decepticons we've met so far. Underbite was this very cool character that just wanted to eat crunchy metal and show off his muscle. His design isn't something I've seen before and I thought it was awesome to come right out of the gate with something like that. Then I got to meet Steeljaw and Hammerstrike which are both 'animal'-cons who had wonderful personalities and motives that I found genuinely entertaining. It felt good to have a story about the Autobots and Decepticons that wasn't revolving around restoring Cybertron or conquering Earth or anything like that. The stakes aren't world ending, at least not yet, and that allows for the show to have fun and introduce fresh blood to entertain.

Which brings me to the fourth Decepticon; Grimlock. One of my favorite things about Robots in Disguise after my brief introduction period is the fact that the line between Autobot and Decepticon is blurred and just because you have a red face on your body doesn't mean your a model upstanding citizen. In the opening minutes we literally find Sideswipe being placed under arrest for being a hoodlum and then near the end of the episode we get Grimlock, who is traditionally an Autobot (though he has fought them on several occasions), tricking a fellow Decepticon into freeing him from his stasis pod just so he can punch him.

The big guy didn't want to end all life on the planet. He didn't want to fight for the glory of the Decepticon armada or serve Megatron hand and foot, he just wanted to punch stuff and in this case that put him on the Autobot's side of the story. I was a little confused about Bumblebee instructing that no one on the team use their Cybertronian forms in case there were human witnesses near the bridge, an order than Grimlock followed by sprinting around as a T-rex...

My point being that having an emblem doesn't necessarily make you good or bad - that's something I haven't seen before despite having players from both factions change sides in other shows they were always introduced as just an outright 'Autobot' or 'Decepticon'. Here, they're just Cybertronians.

I also really like that Bumblebee is just a cop even after the events of Transformers: Prime. The guy killed Unicron and yet he's handing out speeding tickets. It gives that feeling of a fresh start to Cybertron and the franchise as a whole to me.

I haven't really made up my mind on Strongarm yet. She's kind of annoying in the first two episodes but didn't seem as bad in Trust Exercises so I'll reserve judgment for now. I do really like the alt-mode she decided to go with.

Sideswipe looks like he's going to be the character to have a strong relationship dynamic with the human character in this one and I like it. He's the careless, wreckless punk teenager who has to learn responsibility one way or the other.

I also really like Russel and Denny because they remind me of Spike and Sparkplug or like Ben 10 and his grand-dad or whatever he was to him. They're a cool set of human characters that don't seem to fit in with the rest of the world and just happen to stumble upon some awesome robotic entities!

Fixit is wonderful and reminded me of Wheelie who I adored in G1 much to the displeasure of almost everyone int hat thread.

I won't pretend to understand the whole force ghost Optimus Prime thing this early on but I will say that I have no issue with it. It's cool to have Optimus around and guiding Bumblebee even as some spiritual creature that can come into the physical realm briefly to throw Decepticons off cliffs!

All in all, if this initial line-up of episodes is a glimpse of what the next three seasons of this show are going to be like then I'm all in. It reminds me of a blend of Teen Titans, Ghostbusters and Transformers which is a combination I didn't know I needed but I'm not arguing about it.

This show feels much closer to Animated than Prime and just from the pilot I feel safe in assuming that the pressure from the shared universe that crippled Prime so much was significantly lessened if not let go for the production of this show.

I hope that I get to see more 'one-off' stories that introduce exciting new Decepticons and while I'm sure there will end up being a 'fate of all man-kind/transformer-kind' arc in there somewhere, I'm more than happy to do without it and just enjoy the ride.

Lastly, shout out to the massive Bulkhead statue that was beside the Optimus Prime one that got knocked down. I'm sure the other bots were there but I couldn't make them out.

Thanks for reading everyone and see you next time!

This is one of the few Transformers shows where I actually like the human characters.

Strongarm is my favorite character on the show.

I like how light hearted the show is compared to Prime which tried to hard to be epic and serious.

Welcome to the first of many adventures on this show. The animation technique is called cel-shading. It's not the first show to do it. Energon and Cybertron did it first but RID is the first TF show to make it work. The cheaper animation allows for more models and characters to appear, and boy are there a lot of characters in this show. The seasons is a but clunky in some spots this season but it will get better later on.

I was in love with Fixit from the get-go. Armada was my first TF experience and that was also the birthplace of Minicons. Having a Minicon as part of the main cast sold me on the show.

Sideswipe is definitely the best version of the character we got, but well it's hard to explain his situation until you've seen more of the show.

Strongarm is definitely going to be chore for a bit, but I promise she gets better. Her first few episodes centered around her are some of the worst. Not to mention her VA took some time to sound convincing.

Grimlock was a bit of hard pill to swallow. He's not the worst version but he isn't the best either. What you see is what you get. I will give him credit though a few of the episodes centered around him are some of the best in the whole show.

So yeah about Bumblebee being a cop that is an interesting way to start to say the least.

For the whole Grimlock still being a Dinosaur they don't quite explain it in the show so it's not really a spoiler but it seems like whatever form a Dinobot has they're locked in, and I assume the old Predacons were the same way.

So far you see Decepticons loose on the planet, but if you noticed they aren't the traditional type of Decepticons. They aren't the type to serve Megatron like you said but rather criminals. It seems the definition of what a Decepticon is has changed with the times.

Speaking of which the Decepticons, especially a few in particular are just incredible. Underbite being the first to grace us with his glorious accent and ruff and tough demeanor. They go all out for some of these designs and it makes Cybertron's environments far more unique to other versions. It's probably the most diverse since the movies. So Underbite is called a Chompazoids, and he's part of a species, so you might might see others like him roaming around. There's a slightly tragic aspect to them because they have to consume metal to survive or else they weaken and die. Since Cybertron is a metal planet that's going to be a problem. Underbite ate a whole city for crying out loud!

So after that we get to the next episode where you meet Hammerstrike, who just so happens to be a Sharkticon pirate with an Austrailian accent. So Cybertron apparently has oceans. My fics do too so it's a nice idea to see shared. If you didn't notice he was voiced by the legendary David Kaye, voice of Beast Wars Megatron, Unicron Trilogy Megatron, Animated Optimus, Lugnut, and Hardshell from Prime.

The alt modes of many of the Decepticons are unique as well. Hammerstrike is a shark submarine, and you'll see plenty of non traditional forms along the way.

Now to end this I'd like to take a moment to talk about a certain big bad wolf by the name of Steeljaw. If you noticed he's in the intro, so he's clearly important. Blaster's little lion is all grown up. Just from the first minute you can tell there's something special about him. Slashing off his own symbol to avoid being tracked is a level of intelligence most of theses cons clearly don't have as a luxury. His voice is just so good, I want it, like right now. He's got the perfect amount of charm, ego and eloquence that sets him apart from everyone else. I want to say even more but I'll let the show do that for me.

Can't wait to see the next episode :)
