I know just the one you mean. Wham! Straight to the heart.

I was under the impression Carrie Fisher had finished her scenes for Episode IX, meaning the need only do a closed casket funeral to formalise her exit. Was I mistaken on this?

She finished her scenes for this movie before she died. I don't know if IX has actually started filming yet.

At any rate, from what I've heard (and what I've seen) the finished product was not altered in the wake of her passing, so any fallout from it will be reflected in Episode IX. We already saw some of that fallout in the director change, which I presume to be a due to a failure to reconcile a revised script between the original director and the studio.

Saw this again today with my son and his best bud. Loved it even more the second time through. Even Canto Bight was better the second time. I think, much like Empire, this one will grow to be appreciated more over time. It's not perfect, but damn is it a really great movie. Johnson gave the middle finger to a lot of what was set before him and I think he made a better movie because of it.

Saw it last night, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Snoke was deliciously evil, and I wouldn't have minded more story with him. I would think that as powerful as he's supposed to be, he wouldn't have went out so easily. I don't think Palpatine or Vader would have fallen for that shit, but oh well. Funny how he bonked Rey's head with her saber.

Man, that Yoda looked like a sock puppet compared to OT. Just looked wrong when he spoke. Still, I was happy to see him. After Rogue One, I half expected a cgi Alec Guiness to appear somewhere.

The cruiser lightspeeding through the dreadnought was fucking brilliant.

I rolled my eyes when I first saw the porgs, but you know what? Porgs are all right with me.:thumb

Yeah on a sour, sour note. It’s the only thing that doesn’t sit right with me.

Well 24hrs later, had some time to let it sink in and I still don’t like it.

Luke died cause he “used the force to hard” Luke freakin Skywalker, ridiculous.

3rd time was the charm. My kids loved the movie. At the end of the day, that is what is most important to me.

I mean, sort of, but that wasn't really the point. It wasn't so much he died from using the Force too hard, but that chose to become one with the Force after finally reaching peace, and in his last act he saved the Resistance. That was the point of him disappearing into the Force rather than just collapsing.

Besides, Force powers have to have limits and consequences. The old EU liked to make the Force basically a do-anything magical superpower source with essentially no power limit, which was ridiculous. Now we have an ability that literally requires you to become one with the Force in order to do, using the Force actually feels meaningful and has weight instead of "the Force can do anything!"

This reaction exemplifies the point that Luke was making about being treated as a 'legend'.

Honestly I can't think of a better way for Luke to go out than sacrificing himself to save his sister, the Resistance, and the future of the Jedi while demonstrating hands-down the most impressive use of the Force ever seen in the films, but hey, to each their own.

My son did not see the force pull on the broom but I told him afterwards

We saw it this afternoon and loved it. It is long and right now I don't know what could be cut. There were more OT references than I expected but they all had meaning.

I think the way Luke was handled was great. He was a young, reckless adventurer until he found out Vader was Anakin. His MO then became all about turning Anakin to the good side. Since he could not do the same for Ben, he did not see himself as the legendary Jedi everyone thought him to be. Luke would never kill a family member using the Force. But with Yoda's help, he teaches Ben one more time, finds peace doing it, and (not that he would care) becomes legend once again. The kid's talking about Master Skywalker facing the First Order was great.

So when Finn opens the drawer
to get the blanket, were the Jedi textbooks in there?

    Also, when Luke says
"See ya around kid" That is a Han Solo line, isn't it? If so, I thought it was a nice touch with what he says just prior to this.

Yes, which is why Yoda so readily burned the tree and pissed himself laughing whilst doing so, the massive troll. He also said Rey had everything she needed, hinting that she took them.

    No kidding.

Remember what the extent of "Luke freakin Skywalker's" powers in the OT? He could sense things and move a lightsaber after intense concentration.

    This film, though?

He projects a fully tangible version of himself across the galaxy. One that can actually fight Kylo Ren. And he's not only old, but apparently hasn't really used the force in ages.

Kinda just sounds like you ran out of arguement there.

That's why I love the character.

Of corse this is all a matter of opinion.
as far as being the most impressive use of the force, I don’t necessarily disagree, but Snoke basically did the same thing with Rey and Kylo and it didn’t seem to weaken him at all, right?
