Man if they make a Nova Prime in this style I'll have a heart attack. He's got one of my favourite robot mode designs in all of Transformers and would actually benefit from a non-transforming figure so as to get it across without compromises. Plus having light up eyes and wings would just be killer.
I can't believe I'm saying this but it looks like a Gundam. And I know that can be said about a lot of Transformers including the original Star Saber but damn this design resembles it down to the wings.
SEXY! Don't forget, IDW was the one who gave us sleek proportions of Transformers characters. And not only that, they tend to design the bot with no alt mode in mind. Of course, conceptually in-universe, the character still has the ability to transform. An ability of a character doesn't always have to be depicted in a toy, unless the toyline heavily relies on it to differentiate it from competitors. I honestly think that Transformers characters have a unique enough visual look to not rely on the transformation gimmick as a toy to look and be cool.
Could I join your mini club of non-transformable fans? I own about 16 of the Transformers Revoltech figures too. PLUS I am a Gundam/Macross/all Japanese Mecha fan. So far, the only 3Ps I've purchased are from Maketoys CD and Galaxy just for their sleek proportions. I share the exact same sentiment, knowing that Transformers are shapeshifters onscreen, not physical transformers. If Sunbow had restricted their bots to look and transform identical to the Diaclone toys, it would have been a different story.
funny enough the Brave/Yuusha series robots which are considered cousins of the TF franchise (with some have retooled G1 toy molds like the Dinobots) looked Gundam-y due to most of them being designed by the father of the RX-78-2 Gundam, Kunio Okawara, it does not help they were animated by the same studio of Gundam, Sunrise, i mean look at Goldran & J-Decker's face designs in their super robot modes.
Being transformable and gorgeous are quite mutually exclusive. That is why there was a Super Robot Chogokin line as non-transformable equivalents to Soul of Chogokin. So far only G-Creation, MMC Carnifex and the Unique Toys Lockdown are gorgeous enough. It would be sad if Tarn and Star Saber are cancelled if Drift doesn't sell. It would have been a waste of investment.
Looks great if you ask me. I really dig IDW\'s malicious crusader Star Saber, even if he wasn't exactly a complex, multifaceted character. I hope the figure will be big enugh to look imposing next to MP Star Saber so you can have him fight his dark side.
I have mostly 1/100 scale, a few 1/60 big scale, and some Perfect Grade kits. I really enjoy building them, it feels so relaxing and it's fun, for me anyway. Back on topic, would any unofficial (3rd party) want to take this design and turn it into a transforming version?
I wasn't a big fan of Star Saber's design, but damn I love the gundam look. Especially because I like gundam
I wonder what the cost will be and the size. I'm guessing 400 and 10". This guy looks really cool. Can't stop looking at it. It would be interesting to see if a 3rd Party company makes a version that will actually transform.
Prices or pre-orders for this? I don’t like non-transforming Transformers but it’s Star Saber and who knows when we will get an update of him.
