Congratulations on drawing what I previously would have considered "least likely character to make a reappearance". He is amazingly quirky.
Thanks! Wanted to keep him snail-ish even though his alt. mode is now a Cybertronian half-track. Haha thanks. Yep, he's a creeper. Thank yee. Super obscure characters are my favorite! Man, the Buzz Lightyear cartoon was like my favorite thing (after Transformers) when I was little. I'll probably try that, actually. Thanks! Next up: Panacea (thanks to agatharights for naming him!) And a view of his head, 'case I'm not sure the shape of it shows up super well in the full pic: "Panacea? Don't get me started. The mech's a charlatan. A quack, he is! For one, he pushes some hogwash magic charms, potions, and cure-all 'medicines' made out of Energon on humans who go out of their mind for anything not of their world. But who cares if he takes the fleshies for a ride, right? Mech's got to get by. No, that's not what sticks in my craw. What really gets to me is how he goes around acting like he's some kind of doctor to other Cybertronians. Let me tell you, the bot ain't got no idea what he's doing. He's just recognized that there aren't nearly enough medics on this world, and he's filling a void. Too bad he usually does more harm than good. Reality is, though, that if a 'bot gets banged up badly enough, they're usually desperate enough to pay for his services simply because there's no one else for them to go to. He's got a real high opinion of himself, to boot. He's bought into the garbage he's slinging and gone and deluded himself, too." -Bilge
I love the idea of a Cybertronian plague doctor! The fact that he's not only a quack, but he fully believes his own hype, makes for great entertainment value.
Ahhhh! He looks so good!!! You were right, the name fits perfectly, and he turned out gorgeous. Plague Doctor Cybertronian is such a great concept.
Very cool character concept and design as usual. One critique; you don't use lines in your art style which is normally fine, but with his dark color scheme, some of the details seem to run together. Still a very big fan of your work.
Thanks! Glad you like him! And thanks for the name! Thanks! And yeah, you're absolutely right. The big downside of the lineless style is that unless the neighboring colors have a lot of contrast, things kinda blend together. I try to lay out the colors in such a way that the details of the design aren't lost when it's rendered in this style, but yeah, with Panacea's dark color scheme I definitely could have done more to make the details not run together. Today I have something a bit different. I've been messing around with a watercolor-y style, after being reminded of how much I like Floro Dery's concept art style. This is the first time I've done any real digital coloring before. It was fun! And here's Elita done up in a more signature Dery colorscheme. I have a new design done, and I'll post it up in a few days. Just wanted to quickly share these first.
Thanks! Necromaster suggested using this style for flashbacks, which I think I'll do. Now, Ultra Magnus: "Ultra Magnus - back when he was known as Ultumus - was one of the chief enforcers for the Quintesson Regime, and his change of heart and defection to the Autobot cause was crucial to the success of the Uprising. Though he started off as one of our enemies, his subsequent whole-hearted devotion to our cause led to him being granted the honor of donning the Magnus hammer and moniker, becoming our high protector and commander of the Elite Guard. After the death of the Last Prime, he is arguable now the strongest Autobot still functioning." -Lancer, Autobot Historian
Oh shit, that Magnus is awesome! Really interesting choice of colours, and I like how he's got the Minimus Mustache
Very cool. I never would have placed the color scheme without wars' comment, but it works, especially with his backstory.
Thanks, guys! Today's update: Zizza "How can most folks be so blind? How can they not recognize the Visitors for what they are? The Transformers may be part of our societies, some even working and living along side us. Some may adapt our mannerisms, talk like us, act like us. But they are not of our kind. They may play on our realm for a time, but they are of something incomprehensible to us. Now, that might scare some people. And some people - the truly blind - might see them as somehow less than us, just automatons. Yes, automatons they are. Automatonic gods. Our ancestors knew this, during the ancient days when the Transformers made their first contact with our world before disappearing for centuries. They called them the Sky Gods, the visitors from heaven. And they were right. "Zizza is a visitor that has no desire to pretend to be as we are. Her godhood is apparent for all to see. Recognize her, submit to her, worship her and she will give the gift of life itself. The oldest among her disciples is over 100, now - and he still has the body of a young man. "Zizza does not ask much for these gifts, as nothing is too much to ask for a taste of her immortality. Nothing you have, nothing you are is too much to give." -Millard Crossway, disciple of the Goddess
So how is a Transformers cult any different from the fandom as it is I joke, but the idea of a human cult that actually does see the Transformers as gods? Lots of potential there. Reminds me of the G1 episode "The God Gambit" actually.
Very weird and alien design which works for the role you placed her in. Even more interesting is the implication that the transformers are living openly on earth. I would love to read a actual story set in your verse.
Thanks! One of the things I want to play around with is both how various humans see the Transformers, and how Cybertronians see their relation to organics. Are Transformers unliving hunks of metal just carrying out their preprogrammed responses, or are they truly alive? Does their functional immortality make them gods, or were they meant to be only tools for others? Should they be heroes? Rulers? Does ephemeral nature of organic life mean it is cheap, or does it have something to teach them? Thanks! And hopefully you will be able to to read a story set in this universe. The goal is for this project to culminate in a comic series, which will hopefully begin by summer. Thank you! Now - the obscure Heralds of Unicron from Marvel G1; Hook, Line and Sinker: No bio yet, as I just made these guys on a whim and I don't have their role in the series worked out yet.
I think Line's pose is my favorite of the trio. Hook and Sinker are all all imposing and Line's surfing in the background.
Yeah, he's my favorite there, too Today, the leader of the Decepticons himself: Megatron "Megatron. Once, he was the high protector our kind. The supreme guardian, responsible for the safety of both Cybertron and the Last Prime himself. Ultimately, though, he would end up responsible for the destruction of both. "Megatron, though once among the greatest Autobots of all, slowly came to believe in a twisted and perverted version of the ideals we hold so dear. The Autobot Creed is unwavering in the fact that our role is to be the peacekeepers and heroes of the galaxy, keeping the fragile organic races safe. Megatron's warped view of the creed saw us Cybertronians as the rulers of a vast galactic empire, keeping the organics 'safe' by becoming their tyrannical oppressors. "This ultimately led to Megatron's betrayal, as he used his Decepticon army to overthrow our council and usher our race into an age of darkness." -Ultra Magnus So, I know his design doesn't share much of a resemblance to the Megatron's iconic design. Partly, this is because I miss the days when Megatron's designs were allowed too differ wildly from each other, like in the days of the old RID and all of his designs from the UT (unlike Optimus who almost always has a roughly similar design). A second reason is that while there isn't much in his backstory in the little bio up there that seems particularly nonstandard for Megatron, his current motivations and role in the comic will be more unique.
Holy shit that Megatron design. I agree, I miss the days when Megatron's designs could be wild and varied, and this massive departure from the norm is like a breath of fresh air. I don't know if the Aku-like horns on his head were a deliberate choice given that Samurai Jack is cited as a huge aesthetic inspiration for you, but if that was intentional then it's an excellent idea pulled off extremely well. The face, or lack thereof, is also a great touch-- it makes him come across as much colder, more impersonal, and exceedingly difficult to read.
