Maybe it's because I'm relatively new to TF MP collecting, maybe it's because I'm analytic in nature; but when I read comments about 3P figures outselling another 3P figure, I'm wondering what data are used in coming up with this 'conclusion' (or perhaps, speculation is more accurate?).

If there is some database or site that logs these types of metrics, would someone please point me in that direction?

I think the first thing I would want to look up would be the metrics related to the 3P releases of hound (...sorry for bringing up another character's name in a thread not dedicated to them), so I could use something as a bench mark for multiple companies coming up with a figure for the same character, around the same time (and then do some analysis based on actual sales or actual release dates, etc. to draw some data-driven/informed conclusions). Since FT was one of the companies that made an MPscale/style Hound and the Maketoys versions seemed to have quality versions (I'm pleased with my toon version), I'd like to see some objective data to justify what seem to be subjective and/or speculative claims.

I, for one, did not have an MP Omega Supreme high on my want list, despite having the toy as a kid and getting a customized one not too long ago; but when DX9 announced theirs, at a much lower price, and with pics showing a size that seemed larger than FT's, I became interested in purchasing the figure. So, perhaps I'm one of the 'few' that some would mention (but would those statements be based on some objective data?).

Since then I did see FT's Omega Supreme at the last TFCon and was really impressed with how big that figure is, especially when I saw him relatively close to an OS KO Bruticus. However, that awe still didn't sway me to go for that figure without seeing a possibly taller, less expensive version first. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A $60-$70 difference in this game is nothing. The $175 original price difference was. Hats off to both parties for bringing prices down; even though it was based purely out of competition. DX9 is not an angel when it comes to prices; i.e. their Blitzwing, and Astrotrain along with past UT releases...

It is a very bold move DX9/UT made. Time will tell how well it was really played.

With releases of this importance (character and size), people are going to buy what is of good quality AND first to plate.
Sure we all have a choice but FT-20 isn't in infinite quantity and so do fans of this character and build wait for a product that is stalling with the selling and shipping competition? That is a gamble you are in for with a MP character of this caliber.

If DX9 only matches with little attribute differences to FT-20, then they will only have stragglers filling their collection with Omega because FT-20 is no longer available at an affordable price. That isn't a bad thing though. In this case if you aren't sure and don't want to be left behind... you could easily buy a FT-20 (NOW) and get DX9's when (and if) it is released and sell the FT-20 later (when current stock has dried up) and probably make a small profit from the sale (That is if you like the Dx9 release better).

You're a pretty cool dude, so don't take any of this as me being snarky with ya, but: I'm not sure what people really expected though. They surely would have released Gabriel before FT released theirs if they could have gotten it into production first, but it seems they couldn't finish it up quick enough to do that. So, what they did was release a teaser to let people know that there was an alternative that would be coming soon. What exactly could they have done better in this situation?

Just like Ft-16 Sovereign (or even Ft-03 ? QuakeWave) .. very popular... reissue too far out.
FT isn't known for immediate or guaranteed reissues.

    You had Terminus? Pre-release?
Well you basically did what I suggested... trying what is available and selling it if you don't like it. If you liked FT-20 a lot, then you probably wouldn't get a DX9; thus stragglers.

Well I'm about to get Ft-20 (waiting for it in the mail). I might be in that camp but I doubt it... I've watched enough reviews to think I'm going to be in love.

However I was lack luster about the FT's Skyfire. I felt it cost more than it was and really didn't do it for me plus I thought it was a little too big for scale but then "TF Scale" logic (or lack of) kicked in. Lack of waist swiivel, lack of waist skirts for more leg movement I kept it though and it grew on me. The price point and lack of paint did make me feel let down.

However on Ft-16 Soveriegn I doubled down and ordered two after seeing what DX9 had to offer ...

You are right, and I get it. They simply couldn't have simply pull Gabriel out of thin air. Making toys is hard, and 3P companies simply don't have the resources a company like, say TT does ( and they still take long enough).

Regardless on how you feel about apple, it's no wonder why all cell phone manufacturers make sure they put theirs out before october-november. The power of the brand is a thing, and it really applies to everything.

But don't misinterpret what Malware was saying, I know for a fact he's not a FT fanboy, and that he loves GIGA deep inside. It's just a very bizarre business decision from DX, that might bite them in the ass.

I sure hope not, as I'm looking forward for their Stunticons since my magic ball tells me the XTB version will be a disgrace.

Has DX9 updated their height numbers? I haven't paid full attention to this (too much fighting between the FT/DX9 sides so I've stayed away), but the height listed on the original announcement "flier" is shorter than Terminus Giganticus. A lot of people were calling it taller by mistake using Terminus' originally reported height before taller thighs were added later. But with how often I keep seeing it I would like to know if maybe I missed a change in the height.

Since joining TFW I've been called a mindless FT zombie for simply loving their products- and there's no denying the clowns that dive in and out of FT related threads just to post some snarky, sad response (unrelated to the topic at times) just to incite what? We are interacting with adults who take issue with others enjoying awesome toys. We navigate a forum were people equate toys to fecal matter if they do not have the look they want. At times its all rather ridiculous, and its easy to get sucked into the soulless vacuums these users try to create. One must differentiate between a Fanstoys Fan and a forum troll. Fanboy shouldn't have a negative connotation- as it so often does.

If my choice of toy purchase and appreciation for a company (Fanstoys or otherwise) and its products upsets someone- then I know I'm making the right choice! Those who dive into this thread looking for a reaction, we already know what they are- even a mindless drooling FT zombie can see that. Its just best not to comment and move on with being awesome.

As for Dx9? Maybe they will be the vaccine I've been looking for to save me from the Fanstoys Toypocalypse, seeking to corrupt everything in my life. Christmas morning at my place will little more than a wasteland of Fanstoys boxes, and foam inserts, plagued with a infestation of marauding Insecticons. A twisted, mangled human figure will shuffle against the cold darkness of the winter landscape, leaving no gift box unopened. The air will be thick with the smell of garlic and marjoram. The crisp, peppered turkey will be devoured to the bone, and the wails of Mariah Carey's quintessential holiday hit "Baby Please Come Home" will ring out in the distance. No Autobot will be safe from the robotic swarm unleashed by the drooling Fanstoys horde- and the infection will spread to those around me- nothing will be spared. The cake is a lie....

    Sssssseeeeeeeeeeeeend more Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanstoys......

You're not wrong, but everyone's just getting the completed figure they just spent more than $300 on. It's going to be the same in this thread once Gabriel drops. Most people want to focus on the positive when they just spent a lot of money on something. Especially a holy grail type figure like an MP-styled OS.

I'd be willing to bet that if Gabriel has some similar kind of flaw, people will still be gushing about how great he is or how solid the construction is. It's only natural.

DX9 is not much of a difference puzzle wise. Only the legs are connected to the backpack. The rest is pretty much partsforming as well. I mean the tracks must come off the backpack, the tank has to be loose as well as the 2 lower arms/rocket.

The height info I found is listed below. I’m not sure if this includes the updated Terminus height you mentioned, but below is a screen shot of what’s currently listed for him on Tfsource:

Height to the top of head:
    Gabriel: 56.6cm
    Terminus: 55cm

Height to the top of wings:
    Gabriel: 60.3cm
    Terminus: 63cm

So it looks like Gabriel is slightly taller height wise (only 1.6cm or 0.63 inches.)

Terminus’ longer wings add 8cm to his total height. Gabriels wings add 3.7cm to his total height. Side by side Terminus's wings will be an inch higher than Gabriel's.

Feel free to correct this if new info has come out that I missed.

Meh, I'll get both. The one that I deem being closer to a representation of the G1 toon bot will stay in bot mode. The other will be his tank and rocket alt modes. Win, win!

I like the way you think! I wish they'd hurry up on this and then announce if they are doing a blue version. I don't really want to drop about three fiddy on a guardian robot, I'm not the loch Ness monster, but I could do 280. I do, however really want a Guardian robot!

For all intents and purposes they're the same height, we're talking less than 2 cm in height. I doubt that's even perceivable in a side by side.

Okay, it is good to know where the number is coming from. 55cm was the originally reported height from last October with the original shorter thighs. It was updated in June, I've quoted the posts below. I do agree with El Duque that it doesn't really matter, to me at least, but there are people to whom it does matter and I just want them to have the right info when they decide.

Excellent! Thanks for the updated info!

Here are the revised numbers for easy comparison:

Height to the top of head:
    Gabriel: 56.6cm
    Terminus: 58cm
    (Difference of 0.55inch)

Height to the top of wings:
    Gabriel: 60.3cm
    Terminus: 65cm
    (Difference of 1.85inch)

Dx9 tried to pull an FT by announcing Gabriel way before finalizing in order to "steal" away some orders from FT, especially with a significantly cheaper price point. They didn't anticipate a price cut from FT so their early announcement kind of backfired because FT price cut made it more affordable for more people.
