Given that it's AKOM, I'd almost want to disregard the animation entirely and just go by the dialogue. I always imagined that the recharge brought everyone back to life, healed their wounds, etc.

Yeah. I watched it all the way through once. Never again. It's painfully boring. And even though it features all the G1 guys, they may as well be different people altogether. All their personality was sucked out, leaving us with generic anime good guys fighting generic anime bad guys with a generic "lots of fighting but nothing happens" anime plot. It's just dull & feels like the people making it would've rather been off doing something else.

May I ask you if you watched original Japanese with subtitles or one of the dubs? The reason why I ask is I've noticed that in both cases anytime I'm watching something that I originally saw in English and then later see in Japanese or bad, it seems like the personalities I came to know or gone and these guys are just text book characters

Yeah, it was the old Singapore dub. But it would take a lot more than better voice acting to fix that show. The UT showed us that even the best voice actors can't save a plodding story.

I guess I can agree with that on some levels

Just a thought: I tried watching Armada and couldn’t get past the second episode because the voice acting drove me crazy. Instead I watched Micron Legend with English subtitles and it was a MUCH better experience. I’d suggest you do the same with HM, although I do understand why you didn’t like the show.

Had Rebirth only been the beginning of a full season, I could've seen season four having been 35 episodes to bring the post movie count to the magic 65 number. Some of the other 80's toy franchises did a second group of 65 episodes: He-Man, Thundercats.

Rebirth is meh. If there was anybody at Hasbro Media that had even a fraction of a heart, they would get dubs of the JG1 trilogy. And Zone, for good measure.

I've been watching a sub of the Headmasters online and I think I like it better. It did a way better job of introducing the new characters. Except Trainbot. Who even?

That's about it's only saving grace.
And that's only because that show had way more time to spend on introducing the new characters as supposed to rebirths three episodes.

I've always hated the concept of Headmasters. Robots or humans in mech suits doesn't really make a difference. The whole idea of them just seems dumb.

There's only a few ways I could see it working, at least in my opinion. Some of these are more modern concepts others are my own head cannon.

    1. With a character like Fortress Maximus because he's so big I could see the headmasters being like literal emmesaries. Not different characters just smaller versions of Fort Max himself so he can interact with normal Transformers or humans without towering over them. For regular Transformers it would be similar in that the only reason they become Headmasters is so they can turn into human sized robots and be less intimidating when working with humans. Of course this would only make sense for Autobots, Decepticons would never have any reason to do this.

    2. Kind of a mix between Armada Sideways and Animated Blitz wing. A bot could have multiple personalities represented by different headmasters.

    3. The body is not a sentient robot but rather headmasters have the ability to use any Earth vehicle to turn into a larger robot.

    4. The Animated Headmaster villain not the personality of the character, he was annoying but just the concept of a headmaster robot that goes around cutting off larger Transformers heads and taking over their bodies. Though I think he should of also been able to transform and pilot the vehicle mode while the head is a robot.

Pretty much all of these ideas make the headmaster sentient but not the body because I don't really understand how transformers can be two separate entities if the larger robot's face is on the back of another robot, how does he speak in vehicle mode when his mouth is not attached to his body?

I loved the rebirth and to feel it might’ve been better had they gotten the five episodes in the original plan and if the season was a little bit longer

While I liked The Rebirth, it was a giant toy commercial. Had they been able to do a full season with one giant story leading to a new Golden Age of Cybertron it would have been better. The fact is most of the characters who had been a big part of the previous season 3, such as Springer and the Dinobots had just disappeared well before The Return of Optimus Prime. I do wonder if the show had continued in a full season if it would have been better

Yes is should have. Unfortunately, the writers for the american series lost their steam.

That cast-off armor that allowed biologicals to break (ravage) the laws of physics was just too much for me. They should have stuck with mini-cons route that got reformatted into Headmasters, Targetmasters, and Powermasters. But ah well.

How could they stick to that route when it was never really a consideration for the Hasbro line?

He's basically saying the Takara approach was better. Anyone could come to that conclusion with minimal conjecture.

So what is it to you if I decided to not use minimal conjecture as you put it?

it seems to me more and more lately you seem to only reply to post in a way that can only end up leading to some form of an argument and an unpleasant one to boot

If you feel it was obvious that that's what he meant that your business I didn't feel it was that clear so I chose to question him why not let the man himself answer instead of you trying to aggravate the situation in a way that isn't necessary

You know I'm bored like this I have met many people who felt that the entire G1 cartoon was originally a Japanese cartoon that got dubbed for the American audience like let's say Battle of the planets or Voltron

It was my thinking that that may have been the reason behind behind his post and based on the wording in the post it is as likely a conclusion then yours is

Episodes one and three had the most exciting intense battle scenes in all of the 1980s cartoon. IMO.

I LOVE the rebirth, it would have been nice if it had an extra 2 episodes to flesh it out.

But as it is It's got a fun storyline, neat ideas cool lines, it's action packed, Gives plenty of toys a moment to shine and keeps the pace rocketing along and comes to a nice ending.

On the "deaths", Galvatron ordered them to "rip out their power packs" they weren't smelting bodies. Once they got plenty of energy everybody was fine all over the place.

Even if they did kill them who cares it's the end, toys come and go.
