I would be fine with Cel shaded if the style wasn't so stylized.

Nah, they didn't botch shit. Polygon is the best when it comes to cel-shaded CGI, they know what they're doing, watch their actual interviews on Youtube in their anime work where they speak of how the cut frame-rate has benefits and avoids some problems of cel-shaded cgi such as misplaced shadows and disconnect with hand-drawn elements such as special effects.

You can think whatever you want to think, your problem, but claiming they botched it is ignorant, they're beyond your depth in animation knowledge and their praise in the entire japanese industry is warranted.

I actually did not know that about cel shading. I always assumed the cut frame rate was to reduce render times and speed up production. Good to know there are more reasons for the occasionally janky looking animation.

I don't like cel-shaded 3-D and CGI can be hit-or-miss depending on the budget (TFP = great, TF Energon = wow, worse than Beast Wars which was made in the 90s), so I picked 2-D animation.

They may not have botched it as in made a technical mistake, but they could totally have botched in in the sense that choosing the low frame rate was a bad move. Also, saying they're beyond anyone's depth of knowledge is pretentious as all hell. They're an animation studio, not a secret society of reclusive artists. Even the most praised can produce shit.

RID is an ugly, ugly show. Just because it's "stylistically designed to be that way" doesn't invalidate criticisms that the low frame rate, bland character designs, and ugly colour palette has produced one eyesore of a TV program. Nobody is above criticism.

I don't know what is with the Japanese and low frame rate cel-shaded CGI.

Nobody is above criticism but one can distinguish opinion from fact.

As for which animation style, I say it depends greatly on the character designs.

How much are they paying you to shill for their crappy-looking show? Can I get in on that action? I could use the monies.

You're right though, I am beyond my depth. Because I can't comprehend praising someone for deliberately neutering their product.

I would love a return to the highly detailed stylized mecha animation of Beast Wars animes/Car Robots/Armada/Superlink. Unfortunately I'd say that's extremely unlikely to happen. Cost is one major issue. The other is the fact that most of the Japanese artists who knew how to do that sort of animation are now dead. As a result most mecha anime has fazed out that style of animation over the last decade in favour of low-frame rate cel shaded CGI. It makes me very sad.

Studio Trigger might be able to do it but I doubt they would or at least I doubt that Hasbro/Takara would be willing to pay them enough to do it. The rest of what was Gainax is now Studio Khara and they pretty much only work on Evangelion, which is understandable. I would have loved to see a Gainax run Transformers series back in the late 90s or early 00s.

But ultimately, I just want animation that makes the characters fun and expressive, with good action and preferably in 2D.

You know what? Fuck it. Fuck everything. There's no arguing with anybody because you will NEVER change the opinion of someone online. Some people hate it, some people enjoy it, that we must accept. DEAL WITH IT AND FUCK OFF!

I got an alert saying Mr. Nice Guy quoted one of my posts but when I click on the link it goes to a post quoting someone named Big Red. WTF? How does the alert system not know the difference between Saber Prime and Big Red? Those aren't even remotely similar names. The only part it got right was that Mr. Nice Guy quoted someone but it wasn't me so why am I getting Big Red's alerts?

It's probably directed at everyone that's more interested in dumping their opinion on the forum as fact versus just having a discussion, I'd imagine.

The internet, and by extension discussions about transforming space robots and related media and merchandise on the internet, is serious business, don't you know?

I hope cyberverse is something that looks good and is well written.

Im sure RID is good and all but its just too watered down for my tastes and im waiting for something more mature yet not edgy, sort of like the Clone Wars but for TF. That ,in my opinion is what an older audience wants to see , its what I want anyways, it would be a better suit than the Prime trilogy though I appriciate the effort by the people at Machinima to atleast do something about it. Its all about how you do it that counts.

With the utmost respect, I don't think anyone hopes Cyberverse is something that looks terrible and is written by tossing a dictionary at a flock of chickens and using whatever words they peck at. :p

I'm still OK with 3D animation. It certainly works well with some shows, and I think Prime ended up looking just fine. I admit that there are some limitations to the medium, but overall I feel that the reduction in show production time is worth it.

I don't care whether it's 3D or 2D, just want it to be a cartoon. I do not want anything resembling the Unicron Trilogy in terms of animation. It irritated the crap out of me. Not an anime fan.

Even if UT is "anime", the fact that it is doesn't contribute to its awfulness. It's awfulness stands alone, regardless of medium or style. Otherwise, that's like saying a poop and ham sandwich is bad because it has ham in it. :D

Cyberverse is aimed at the same age group as RID so pretty sure it'll be similarly "watered down".
