A friend of mine had a pretty legit idea. Make Gobotron a cybertron colony world.
If you want to keep the classic gobot idea of them being organic brains within metal bodies, tweak the colony world idea. The Gobot Titan died when it landed, taking the Sparks with it. Flash forward a few million years, the local ecosystem produces sentient organic life, they find the Titan, and reverse engineer his tech, jumpstarting their technological development. Eventually they begin integrating their brains with bodies built from the Titan's pool of sentio metallico.

I had the Gobotron as a colony idea a while back. Also had Nebulos as a colony as well, basically taking the place of Planet Master. My fanon is a lovely place...

Yeah, if you're looking for Go-Bots to fit in your Classics/CHUG collection then those Machine Robo figures aren't what you're looking for. They're very complexe and delicate, like MP figures. I have the Eagle Robo and Bike Robo. They make great display pieces but they aren't particularly fun to handle.

I don't see a problem. Consider Classics Optimus Prime. He takes some ques from G1 Optimus Prime but he is an entirely new design. If they altered the Machine Robo designs in the same fashion they'd be fine.

I look at figs like Fracture from the '07 movie line, the one that was a Walmart exclusive, and that's what I'd like in my Gobots update. That red Grapple that was released as Hot Spot? If I chase it down, that'll be Crane Brain. Same as the same mold that was remolded INTO Hot Spot will be Pumper. Some snazzy repaints of existing figures would be enough for me. SE Dragstrip? Nice to meet you, Slicks.

GoBots should be reworked as a horror entry in the Transformers franchise by and through IDW, in which the GoBot colony world looks happy and cheerful like a kind of StepfordFormers world, but underneath it all there's a horrible cult or governmental program that's attempting to 'augment' the population by forcibly grafting biological brains and organs into its citizens to wean them off of their dwindling energon supply (which is a twist on the original storyline of the GoBots actually being cyborgs).

    OR

We could go ahead and keep from grimdarking every single Goddamned thing on the planet. It's already about war, isn't that enough? You want needless gratuitous horror? There are VOLUMES of movies to choose from.

This has probably been mentioned before but Hasbro DID buy the rights years ago and Go-Bots are part of Transformers.

They haven't done much with them besides reusing some of their names. Leader-1 was Megatron's Mini-con partner in Armada. Boulder from Rescue Bots is actually named after a Rock Lord.

Aside from the characters names being reused there was also the Transformers Go-Bots toy line and cartoon series. It was back during the Beast Machines era, the toy line did well but the cartoon series was almost unheard of and only lasted like six episodes before being cancelled. Probably because unlike Rescue Bots it consisted of characters like Beast Bot. In the show he could be a gorilla or a cheetah depending on the mission but the toys they were clearly Beast Machines Optimus Primal and Cheetor. The idea of the toy line seemed to be like Rescue Bots to make little easy to transform chibi style figures for kids under the age of four but the cartoon for some reason only had a hand full of characters with two forms each based on two entirely different figures. And they all had Bot at the end of their names. It was the worst thing ever.

Also unlike Rescue Bots that actually tries to teach kids things without treating them like they're idiots, Go-Bots was just repetitive nonsense. It's no wander that series never lasted a full season before being cancelled.

They have also inserted Go-Bots into Transformers fiction as background characters. Cy-Kill for example, I don't think he was ever named but it's clearly his likness being killed by Megatro in a comic book.

They haven't done anything really major with Go-Bots since they bought the rights, they've just been sprinkled around just enough so Hasbro can keep the rights to them. I would actually like to see a spin off series set in the same universe as a Transformers series where they can do crossovers. Update the designs and make them another team of Autobots and Decepticons from Cybertron instead of being Guardians and Renegades from Gobotron.

Cool idea but why not have them be from there own planet? Alot of transformers left cybertron during the war and the gobots can be some early Tfs that left before the war jence there simple generic looks.

I agree; I would be happy to see more Hasbro IP characters get greater exposure. My personal preference would be for for the Guardians and Renegades to be introduced in things like the IDW G1 comics as Autobots and Decepticons.

I'm OK with it, as long as it's not done just to have a cameo of Cy-Kill getting killed for a "Haw, Go-Bots suck, amirite?" moment. That's played out by now. :)

It could work. They've already done lost colonies, the gobots could be one of them.

Honestly, they could bring Gobots into the Transformers universe easily by saying that they were from a world that mechanical life sprang from just like on Cybertron. Which means the Gobots wouldn't be Cybertronian in origin and make them different than the Transformers. Or they could be a colony world to give them a Cybertronian origin. We've seen both ideas already in the IDW universe.

Isn't IDW all about PostBellum? Anyway, IDW seems to love it's perverse mutant robot massacres, and while there are volumes of movies to choose from, the only horrible robots with biological organs inside them movie I can think of is Virus, and it was one of those 'so awful it's good' things. So bring on the blood and guts, IDW. My body is ready.

Perhaps IDW could resurrect Cy-Kill; they've pulled that with multiple IDW characters before.

My reaction would be a shrug.

There isn't anything blocking them being in the same universe. Wouldn't have to be the same species or related in any way. The universe is big that way.
