The Jazz on my Autobot MP shelf is the Alternators one. I don't need them all to be exactly as they were in the comics or cartoons, and he is too awesome to replace.

He's still available from TFSource. I ordered him in September without issue.

I almost went with Coolsville for his altmode but there was too many things that bothered me about his botmode to get him. He also wasn't released at the time so I couldn't just ask around about the things that were bugging me. The flap behind the head was the biggest thing. I also didn't like the torso bits. A little too detailed and for whatever reason it makes me think he stole some bits from Megatron and glued them there. Coolsville does have the best altmode, though. Hands down, kills the competition dead. If you want to display in car mode without any extra work, get Coolsville.

For me, though, I am beyond happy with MakeToys Downbeat, which is the Jazz I decided to finally get after agonizing over it for weeks. The poses I can pull off of this guy are amazing, and while the car mode does look naked and the back bumper is an eyesore, his bot mode more than makes up for it. He just captures that G1 feel so perfectly and it's definitely a figure with a lot of character. There are also some nice sets you can get to dress him up with livery and stripes and he looks just as good as Coolsville in car mode - minus the back end of course. If you hit up the Downbeat thread, there was actually someone in there that applied an entire set and someone mistook it for Coolsville and told him he was in the wrong thread. All together, though, it's a solid, well put together toy and MakeToys has earned any future purchases from me. With a little extra work, he's also just as nice as Coolsville in car mode.

Unless, of course, you want to display back bumper first. XD

I have J4ZZ and Downbeat and love both of them.

I don't have and don't want Coolsville. I don't like piece sticking up behind his head.

I had J4ZZ since he was the first to market and he's a great quality bot but I never felt like he had the toon aesthetic I was looking for so I sold him when Downbeat came out.

I really like Downbeat since he hits that toon look pretty spot on for me in bot mode but I think J4ZZ is better quality-wise. I don't like that I had to apply extra decals to get Downbeat the way I want but now that they're applied he's definitely one of my favorite bots of the year so far.

if it if it weren't for his weirdly small face, downbeat would be my definitive Masterpiece jazz. I honestly just dont like J4ZZ that much; there's nothing wrong with it per se, it just doesn't do it for me. If anybody wants to trade it for Coolsville, I'd be happy to.

Was looking forward to Hova for a long time. Finally just put Downbeat in my POL because there will come a day where he will be hard to find and I will have regretted not getting him.

Nah. I have moved away recently from the idea of going "all in" on MP carbots - was thinking about getting all S1 carbots and diaclones/repaints - a mixture of official and 3P. Now I'm only getting specific ones - just the ones that will satisfy my inner 10 year old. Can't really make the case for myself getting Bounceback - that opens a door my wallet won't be able to walk through.

MT Downbeat. Looks like cartoon Jazz. No complaints from me.

I have all three and like different aspects of each.

J4ZZ is just a great figure all around, with a great alt mode and a nice bot mode. But it's not G1 style so it doesn't belong in my G1 MP collection. I have one displayed in botmode with MT Despotron and GT OpEx.

Coolsville has a fantastic alt mode that's sitting in a display case next to my other J4ZZ also in alt mode. Coolsville has a hellacious transformation (and it comes in bot mode so you have to endure it if you want it in alt mode). Botmode is too large and goofy looking for my taste.

Downbeat seems to be a bit more cheaply made and is fidgety to pose, and has some tab-staying-in issues and unpainted gray swirl plastic shins and feet, but is the most G1 looking MP so it goes in the G1 botmode Ark team display until/unless Takara or Fans Toys releases something superior one day.

I'm surprised that MT Downbeat is getting so much love in this thread. I was under the impression that Downbeat fell out of favor given his kibble and legs needing more refinement. I honestly did not think he was any good until reading the replies here. I find that to be very promising!

In regards to Coolsville, the flap behind the head doesn't bother me. What does concern me is his overall size in both car and robot mode. IIRC, Jazz is a bit taller (not by much, though), or about the same size as Prowl. Do you think Coolsville is still too tall? Is the transformations really that bad?

I like J4ZZ, but it's more of a modern Jazz than G1 Jazz. I love the design, but I fear it may look out of place with the G1 MP's.

I understand that some here like both (i.e. MT Downbeat and GT J4ZZ), but the purpose of this poll is for a definitive MP Jazz. And sure, I'd love to see Fans Toys and MMC make their own MP Jazz, but that may very well be a while (or not at all!). Look at Hound. Only MT and FT made an MP Hound. No one seems to show any interest. Same seems to be true for a 3P MP Mirage, Sunstreaker, and Jazz.

True, all 3 have their share of flaws (some more than others). But these are the 3 choices we have, and may have for a long while.

Downbeat, by far, is the best choice in my book. I wanted to like Coolsville, but I just couldn't get past the transformation or that ridiculous robot mode. And the Hova (or whatever it's called) is vaporware. So, that leaves Downbeat and J4zz. J4zz is a nice figure, I love the magnetic doors, I personally owned one, but he just wasn't Masterpiece material for me. He's a nice figure, very IDW, but if you want G1 Masterpiece, you want Downbeat.

J4ZZ looks cool in his own way, not G1 enough for my collection but maybe I'll pick him up one day for the hell of it.

I was originally leaning Coolsville, definitely had a more impressive vehicle mode. I ended up ordering both - I got my Downbeat but Coolsville was on preorder from Premiumcollectables so... yeah. So much for that.

Anyway, kind of worked out okay because I now think Coolsville just doesn't stack up well enough in the bot mode department - I probably won't reorder one after all.

There's definitely some things I don't like about Downbeat (lack of livery in alt mode, those grey swirly feet, the way one leg doesn't quite tab in properly) but I'd say he's the clear winner so far.

I grabbed Coolsville for 70 bucks despite the crappy transformation i rather enjoy him and hes loaded with diecast. (not that thats a great thing But its still nice) I can understand why most prefer Maketoys but for the price and some credit i had with ebay Coolsville was worth it for me

I have all three. For various reasons. Maketoys is my G1 animation Jazz, Toyworld I like for the slavish detail to the car, and J4ZZ for his awesome updated IDW-esque design.
