I think Kirkman may've mentioned it as an idea in passing. There was also the hint on talking dead about Madison's accent after Hardwick asked if somewhere in the life of the show someone would make a "cousin Rick..." comment.
He actually went from my least favorite to most favorite character in Fear. I still find it funny that the actor who plays him is the son of the actor who played Stannis Baratheon on GOT.
Does anyone actually watch FTWD? I started watching it when TWD7 aired, they had S1 running after S7 episodes premiered each week. It was ok at first, but I found myself running out of fucks to give by about episode 5 and I just stopped watching it.
I have watched it since the beginning. I enjoy it and the season 3 finale was Sunday. Some interesting happenings...
I kinda wanted to like it, but i just couldn't find the motivation. Maybe it's because I was getting a bit tired of Walking Dead failing to deliver the goods throughout the first half of S7. I might give it another go if it turns up on netflix, the walking dead is certainly much better binged than spread over weeks and commercials, you certainly notice the filler eps less! But there'd seriously have to be nothing else to watch that week!
I liked FtWD S1, when it actually covered the early days of the outbreak. I quit watching about three episodes into S2, when it became just like the original series, except on a boat. As far as the original series, I still enjoy it, but I’ll probably stop watching once All Out War ends, since that was the point where the source material started getting stupid.
I haven't enjoyed the series since the time-skip but I was willing to keep reading and see where things were going. Even though the comic has had lulls before, the entire All Out War arc was excellent and I was hoping that the post-time-skip meandering was building up to something of that quality. Almost 40 issues later and nothing but the disappointing Whisperer War and its non-ending. Still, I wanted to see where the subplot with Eugene's radio-pal was going and kept with it. Then Princess showed up. And that was the last straw, when I finally said "f*ck it, I'm out" and dropped the series. That said, I'm torn because the TV show has become a different enough animal that it might be worth continuing to follow. The show handled the Hunters arc much better, IMO, and has even improved upon the Saviors arc so far...so maybe the show will be able to salvage the post-time-skip era?
I like Fear, it is enough like the original to be recognizable, but different enough to be interesting. A couple issues I have with it are all the separating of the main group. They haven't all been together since the middle of season 2. That and I'm still unsure exactly who's story it is. Is it Madison's, Nick's or Alicia's story? The original is clearly Rick's story. To me, it is not as clear in Fear. Other than those two things, I think it is entertaining even though it is slower paced. As far as the original series goes, I think season 7 has been my favorite season thus far. A slow burn that is so focused on the characters! As hard as it was to see Rick as a shadow of his former self after being beaten into submission, that mid season finale where Rick finally decides to fought Negan And get the band back together was a powerful moment. A moment that I had been waiting for since poor Glen had his head turned into brain jelly, and it was worth the wait! I'm excited to see how season 8 plays out.
I'm willing to give Princess a shot in live action, honestly. As said the show sometimes improves on the comic like with the cannibals, Carol, Morgan, Gabriel, and several other aspects. And if Michonne is going to get Andrea's death, I'm kinda looking forward to it. Oh also, the issue where Negan is with Alpha will hopefully be just as good in live action. I also wanna see Beta.
Even though Michonne has absorbed most of Andrea's plotlines, I think it's more likely that Carol will get her death.
Carol I admit I haven't given much thought to, because the character is so different from the comic character. Until now I didn't think of that, but yeah, she could fit the bill since she's a founding group member and her death would have as much gravitas as comic Andrea. Good idea, though I love the image of comic Rick sleeping on Andrea's grave. I could see Daryl doing that instead, though. You think? I just figured since she took Andrea's place as Rick's lover and all.
Does anybody think the hype for season 8 is pretty low?! It's starts next week, and i still haven't seen an ad for it on tv, or heard anyone talking about! Personally i've been growing my beard out in support of a return of wild old man Ric!!
Yeah I can feel that lack of hype. The past few seasons have all started with a hell of a lot of hype for various reasons. Season 4 - started after the mostly acclaimed Season 3, the show was definitely a phenomenon by this point. Season 5 - picked up after a cliffhanger (the premiere is still to date the highest rated episode of the show) Season 6 - picked up after the most acclaimed season of the show yet, and also had Morgan joining the main cast. Season 7 - obviously resolving the Negan cliffhanger. Season 8 is coming off of a pretty lackluster, sluggish season. There were only a handful of episodes I think everyone universally liked, anyway. Even with the promise of war, the ratings prove the show has lost a step with the audience.
Yeah I mean I didn't even start watching until after Season 6 aired. I kept seeing posters in train stations and ads in mags, and lots of previews on tv, all that got me interested, but I was weary about starting a show already into its 6th season, but when S6 mid season finale aired, and everyone was raving about it on facebook i couldn't resist the hype any longer, and man once I started, I couldn't stop. What a treat it was to binge those first 5 seasons, I couldn't believe I'd waited so long, but at the same time I was glad I did because there were numerous times i couldn't have imagined waiting a whole week to see the next episode, let alone 6 months! I had to stop looking at the posters because they gave away which characters die by virtue of them not being on the posters anymore! I don't really feel the excitement in the air anymore, like zombie christmas is coming... but i'm still up for it, Season 7 didn't quite go the way I thought it would, but it was still mostly fun, especially the back half! it's still the best TV show currently airing, My body is ready!
That's my issue with FtWD. I wanted to see more of the early days of the outbreak and how the world is slowly losing its identity but what they gave us is more of a lazy knockoff than a well constructed spinoff.
We need something new. Throughout the series they have gone to different locations, each resulting in a major reason for them to leave and then be introduced to a new evil. I'm hoping this season finishes off the Negan conflict and forces them into new surroundings with a possible chance of hope, which we all know is futile. If they stay in Alexandra, and still have to deal with Negan going into 9, then I just don't think I can bother anymore.
In that case, if they follow the comics, you’ll probably be somewhat disappointed. I’m guessing Season 8 will be entirely devoted to All Out War, Season 9.1 will cover the post-time-skip period up to the reveal of the Whisperers’ “territory markers” as the mid-season finale, then Whisperer War as Season 9.2.
