Darth Vader was not redeemed. Not even close.

lol! Very true! Especially since they had him murder a group of toddlers in the prequels.

Such a dumb scene to include, especially because they knew the audience was already expecting him to be redeemable.

Yeah they fuckin’ dropped the ball on that one. Had they marched on the Temple and had Vader defeat his fellow Knight-General’s in combat it would have been fine, but functionally unarmed children......not so much.

I can see where you're coming from. I like Vader as much as the next guy, but I also find some of his actions (Like killing his underlings that just doing their job and kill children) to be a little bit too much. I won't be surprised if someone find Vader's behavior to be indefensible.

Speaking of Star Wars, I actually glad Disney scrapped the old EU. For me, the Expanded universe is just a colossal mess of a fictional universe (Almost as much as the Transformers Aligned continuity), with nothing really makes sense to happen. I like the KOTOR games and some of the ideas in the Force Unleashed games, but most of the stuffs in the EU are just pure nonsense like the Mount Sorrow and the Yuuzhan Vong, and they shouldn't be connected together under the same universe at all.

I was just discussing this on another board. Vader saving his son from the Emperor does NOT erase a lifetime to villainy. The younglings, the female and children Sandpeople and the citizens on Alderaan are not resting easy in the netherworld just because Vader committed one good deed.

Ironically the movie from the Original Trilogy we regard as the best (ESB) was the one Lucas had the most outside help with writing. Wish he had more of that kind of help with the prequels.

If you want to be a pedant, Alderaan was Grand Moff Tarkin’s atrocity since it was his order to fire the Death Star, although Darth Vader would be a culpable party. As for the Tuskan Raiders, I find it hard to really work up outrage over it since it was a crime borne of passion and impulsive rage rather than the more calculated murders of his various officers and the Purge of the Jedi Temple since the Tuskan's themselves (in the movies anyway) never present themselves as anything other than murderous rape and pillage types who cannot and will not entertain coexisting with the humans on Tatooine. Still goddamn horrible shit and a glaring warning of the villainy to come.

So no, Darth Vader, not really redeemed by any reasonable stretch, but he did finally fulfil the prophecy.

Agreed, many good things have spun out of bad material. Since we're on the topic, Star Wars is a great example. Though with new material being released, I think erasing previous lore was a smart move.

The Force ghosts of the younglings Vader killed should've just appeared and started dogpiling on him the first chance they got. Robot Chicken had a scene like that but without the dogpiling, and didn't go far enough with the joke, I thought. :D

Yeah, man, me too, I was definitely born in the wrong generation. I miss the 14th century, when Apple was a FRUIT, kids played OUTSIDE instead of on their iPads, and decomposing VICTIMS of the BUBONIC plague LITTERED the STREETS.

I hate what technology has done to this generation, including mine. It's made everyone complacent, lazy and anti-social. I take public transportation daily and as you gaze up and down the platform, everyone's staring mindlessly into their smartphones like zombies. Nobody even talks to each other anymore. I'm glad I got married before this tech surge hit because I'd have a hard time meeting people the way things currently are.

There should be a horror movie about people being sucked into their smartphones and internet devices.

The 80s are overrated and don't appeal to me in the slightest.

Corporate nostalgic cashing in agrees with you.

    Dear old people,
Can you please not use the word charlatans as an insult. It makes even the wisest of you look stupid and quite frankly it sounds like you're trying to be a 1950s cliche.

I can go with that as long as we can also ask you young guys to not wear Fedoras. You look like doofuses and frankly I'd like to slap them right off your heads.

    Doofuses or neo-maxi-zoom-dweebies?

Hey, at least they're wearing the fedoras right and not backwards and barely on their heads.
