It’s a fair question. I don’t know because I don’t have any technical knowledge in the area. All I can speak to is my consumer experience which is that they seem a little underwhelming. Maybe there isn’t a solution that’s workable now with the mechanics. I’ll still buy Cloudburst anyway.

Like I've stated before:
For pretenders whose shells did not transform do a voyager sized shell with a legends inner bot.
For the ones whose shells did transform, either use use the evolutions idea already being used for the leaders, and just replace all the leaders with pretenders (which would leave an incomplete bot mode shell), or go back to the previous idea and use a legends inner bot with a complete leader shell that transforms.

Obviously, the drawbacks would be that the inner bots all be legends size, unless you go the evolutions leader route in which case they'd just be mostly legends size, and that the voyagers wouldn't transform which I know would rub a lot of people the wrong way. However, from the second year of pretenders on most of the original pretenders had legends or basic/scout sized inner bots anyways.

I understand why Hasbro did it this way, and they probably made the right financial choice. And I do actually like the prime masters as they are. But as a big fan of the original pretenders I'm still very disappointed.

I'm not in a position to post a link to my various previous posts about this subject.
But i've made it very clear what would be the right course to update Pretenders before in those posts which you seem to be happily ignoring in order to present what you like as the only possible choice.

It really is not hard.
You just need to do the shells at voyager size and the inner robots at legends size.
The legends can then be attached to the voyagers as a backpack in robotmode and G1 Thunderwing style in vehicle mode.
Both voyagers and legends would be transformable.
With about 9 voyagers at retail you could easily do the most appealing Pretenders at retail with a minimum of retooling. The rest could be boxsets.

It really is not the impossible thing some people like to make it out to be.
It wouldn't even be that hard.
Considering many Pretender designs had a similar basic template it might even be very profitable considering retool costs.

The only improvement I would make to the PrimeMasters is add a transparency effect to the matrix back. I think most of think of crystals when we think of a Matrix.

 

You realise Hasbro could be testing the waters here.

 

It's the same figure. There might be some minor color differences like between Thrilling 30 Cosmos and Titans Return Cosmos, but you won't get a different transformation or different sculpted details.

 

Yeah that's the Japanese release. Toy's Dream Project showed up on some other Japanese releases around that time too, like Paradron Medic Ariel for example.

That’s fine if that’s the way you feel- I can respect that position, although I think it may only look that way cumulatively. I myself only commented on it once, which may be what others have done individually.

My main point I was trying to get at is that coming on to here and with no provocation insulting posters that have said nothing to you personally isn’t something I can get behind, that’s all. Anyway, I’ve said my piece and I won’t derail the thread any further. Happy to PM if you wanted to discuss more.

I'm not upset at the implementation. I think most things considered it's a good work-around. It gives them a proper shell and a tiny robot inside (which actually fixes my "pretenders look human but are gigantic" problem with the comics fiction). My preference would be a deluxe that incorporates elements of the shell - Skullgrin and Bludgeon are amazing examples of this done right. But I'm also 100% on board with tiny Pretenders, especially with transforming shells being an already established take.

My complaint is that the characters are basically being entirely discarded. Cloudburst and the other Pretenders aren't especially complex or nuanced, but they're still themselves.

What's frustrating is that you could explain it away with just a little effort: Cloudburst et al are reincarnations of the 13 or whatever. Like Blackrock didn't know he was Cybertronian, these guys didn't know they were Primes. Voila, internal conflict and an additional dimension to the characters in the grand tradition of like a dozen so-so anime.

 

Hope so.
There are things i like about potp, but over all it's not the (mostly) undivided pleasure CW and TR were to me.
I know Masterforce fans like the Pretenders at this size and i agree it makes sense with the cartoon in mind, but it isnt my cup of thee.
And they are poor representatives for the Primes imo.
As to the leaders in this line, i'm sure they are fun to the chugsterpiece collectors.

 

YES! Elita-1 actually looks much better than Starscream despite of apparently sharing the same mould and Moonracer looks great, definitely an improvement from the CW moulds.

Hoping to see Firestar (although I wish she jad her IDW head) and other fembots like Lancer and Greenlight soon.

 

Call me a weirdo, but Inferno is sexy as hell. Maybe it's just because I love the mold in red and black.
