I use CW Computron as G2 Computron. My head canon is that they took too long computing upgrades. Grimlock got tired of waiting and just slapped on a few different pieces while they were doing so. Good enough to fight. Go fight.

 

1. Generations Scourge’s (one of) alternate head is senator Ratbat that was in Scourge’s instruction and used as TG Ratbat and TFSS Serpentor.
2. PE Cyclonus has hole-opened left fist that never been appeared before 2016 despite heavy use of his mold.
3. Though face design has been clearly influenced by Devcon, head top design isn’t based on Devcon but Sweeps/Scourge.
4. Platinum Editions often use their original mold (Omega’s head, PRIME Magnus’ upper body, Perceptor’s plate case, and AOE dinobots' g1 heads)

So, I think Sweeps head and Cyclonus’ fist are new mold for Platinum Edition and the head is designed for both Sweeps and (potential) Devcon.

 

Every bit of information I have ever seen about it says the sweep/devcon head was part of the original mold.

 

Not really sure what the dispute is - it was made by Hasbro to be Devcon, regardless of whether they got around to actually producing it for market. That doesn't change that it's Devcon.
Myself, I'll stick with the BotCon version, it's fine.

What happened to the retooled chest?

 

Two options

1:boxart only like red chest swoop and quickswitches retooled helmet

2: the image of the figure is a mock-up photoshop and not the actual figure

 

I hope so

 

Actually, if you look at the boxart, those shoulders and chest, while retools, are not new. Those pieces are identical to Onslaught's chest and shoulders, albeit the chest is a bit flatter.

Observe:

 

G2 Computron is all black but each component had a different bright color of circuit detailing painted on him. G2 Abominus is Pea soupe green with each component having a different color of neo splotches on them.

 

The toy photo lacks those parts too, so he might just be Hotspot with a new head and no parts swap with Onslaught.

 

It is also possible that the toy photo is an early concept photoshop considering it’s the exact same image from the leaks months ago, just a better resolution and the final product may have the retooled onslaught parts. We won’t know till hasbro actually shows it off or a newer image leaks

 

Given that the Onslaught shoulder pieces would interfere with the ladder assembly, that's what I suspect.

 

It might be, if you look at the photo you'll notice that Inferno's head looks a bit off.

 

Takara hasn't revealed it yet?

The other possibility is the art is based on a concept that was later scrapped or redone. Similar to how the official Optimus Maximus art includes holes on Ironhide that aren't there on the final version.

Like, somebody slapped a ladder and head on an Onslaught and said "Hey, Inferno!" so the artist whipped something up while Hasbro went to work putting the mold together.

 

So many possibilities haha

 

That Jazz is begging to be repainted into Crasher. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.
I'd also love to see G2 Terrorcons and Technobots. They would be so deliciously garish.
A bright neon green nose monster? YES PLEASE.  

 

It's possible that they told the artist that the figure is an Hotspot / Onslaught retool with a new head. If they only used Onslaught as a reference, the art could reflect that.

Goddamn These torso`s look amazing .... I bet TT selects some beautiful light pastel like colors for the ALITA-PRIME gestalt ... Hasbro`s looks almost red .... May be TT is the way to go on the fembots ... Besides , I`d rather have 4 fembot limbs than 2 , with Jazz as a left leg .... I`m hopeful that`s the path they go any way . Elita-1 looks like she would shine as a bright pink color ...
