Hound #1 and Blaster #2 Reflector #3

 

Hear Hear! The good old days when MPs had fun transformations and a nice blend of toy/toon detail, not just bland toonish accuracy. Oh and the car-bots were always at a nice price point too.

 

I just want them to complete the Diaclone cars (including the Omnibots) and I'll be happy. I would like to see them do Raiden too.

 

I think you're way, way overstating the lighter detail of the 'toon accuracy. Megatron is overflowing with detail, and while yeah, Inferno and Grapple are a little light on the leg detail, they're not lacking in any other way.

Your point about the price-points is also kinda broken, because it assumes that the prices haven't gone up for a real reason. Takara were pretty clear that the price on Sunstreaker went up because of the need to add a lot of parts to satisfy Lamborghini, and the increase of parts counts on the line as a whole over the last couple of years is going to contribute to that too.

Basically, if you prefer the Hasui-style, fair enough, but you're equivocating the current pricing and the design style with your preference on design style, which is innacurate.

You never know, maybe Hasui would have pushed for characters that could retain a certain price point.

I don't think Megatron is a great example. I would consider him 100% toon just as much as Inferno/Garpple/Iron Hide/Ratchet.

Hasui quite obviously has a different style compared to what we are getting in modern times. That is why I have drifted away from MPs towards the large action figures.

 

Easy! Hound and Blitzwing are the only characters I would purchase from that list.

Only thing extra I would have liked on MP Inferno and Grapple would be chrome rear bumper.

Yeah, I'm not sure if Takara is even championing G1 here... When you look at their Diaclone reboot MP's, a focus on the Diaclone cars, and also the repaints are Diaclone based. Seems to me they are paying homage to their Diaclone history.

 

This is a dry spell? I don't think this is a dry spell. We've had periods of almost an entire year with nothing released. There are two new G1 releases scheduled. Sunstreaker and AKOM Hot Rod. Just cause nobody wants AKOM Hot Rod doesn't mean he wasn't announced.

 

I don't know if the Omnibots have a shot because they weren't in the toon, but yeah, my minimum expectation is to get all the Diaclone cars, plus a few key characters like Galvatron.

And Microchange too, considering they've made Megatron, Soundwave, the cassettes, and Bumblebee, with Blaster on the way. But yeah, this is a great way of looking at it. The majority of G1 MPs have come from 84 and 85, when the line was mostly Diaclone/Microchange molds. Post-85 MPs are a paltry lot (Rodimus Prime, Hot Rod, Ultra Magnus, Soundblaster, Artfire, Star Saber), and a lot of those are easy redecos of 84/85 characters.

But if they are paying homage to Diaclone, where are my Dinobots and Insecticons?!  

 

Idk that its being called a dry spell due to lack of releases, but due to the lack of any real news or reveals. We've known about streaker for a while now, and it seems like we should definitely be due for something new. Especially since we've known about Dinobot for even longer than him with no real information as to where the hell he disappeared to.. I get the impression that with all the sever criticism of the renders, and that of the prototype shown (that wasn't supposed to be publicized, if I remember right) that they didn't take him bank to the digital drawing board.

I also wonder that if the rumors of busted molds in Vietnam are actually true, that they're a larger issue than what we imagine. Maybe because of that, they're moving everything to a whole new factory, possibly even sending everything to China.

 

Yeah, there are a lot of factors that some people aren't even considering of what's actually happening.

@Norm West that was your smartest comment, and you're right about that, keep it like that man.

 

This "dry spell" has helped me and many others have the money to justify some pretty big 3rd party releases this year so I'm not complaining... A real dry spell will come when there are no G1 MPs from anywhere to collect!

Right now though, like most people, I'd just like to see Takara complete the original season 1 ark crew. If they follow up Sunstreaker with, say, Hound and Trailbreaker next year I'll be more than happy. Throw in a larger character like Blaster and it's all good. In other words I'm staying positive.

Now I'm not one to assume we'll see anything at any convention/in any magazine but even I have to admit that we're well overdue being thrown a bone. Will certainly be looking out for new Figure Oh! scans next week with my fingers crossed.

I think that's mostly diehards, and honestly, I think those threats are more for effect than anything. Sure, some do turn to 3rd Party... but I bet most of them are still buying the official when they finally come out.

 

I’d suggest that most are buying the official added on what I see and here. 3P suffers from the fact that even though a couple of companies do it really well, it’s just not quite there. It’s a placeholder effect.

The advantage 3P has is that they can fill a gap that fans are impatient to fill. Their major disadvantage, though, is that by the time Takara does produce a licensed official version, they had loads of time to design above and beyond any 3P offering, and then they can slap their name, the branding, and all of heir bells and whistles on it.

 

You're probably right, but I've lurked in some 3P threads, and there's a lot of "Takara sux, 3P rulz" in there. I don't really understand the partisanship on either side, the HasTak white knights or the 3P diehards. I tend to prefer the look of official Takara MPs and will always buy official when that's an option, but have no problem with 3P.

I'm definitely become more choosy when it comes to 3P and don't want to go too much down the placeholder route. After Sunstreaker's announcement, I won't buy any more 3P Diaclone carbots (unless Takara announces they absolutely won't make so-and-so, for licensing reasons or whatever). I have X-Transbots Scourge and Cyclonus, and really want a Galvatron, but am willing to wait for official because I know he's coming at some point.

 

Personally I used this dry spell to sell my huge 3P collection, minus all the larger FT figures, to raise money to fully complete my MP collection. I now own all 3 Official Bapes. Totally worth it.

 

So.... what are the chances we see a toy color Shockwave released in the near future? I'm debating on dumping the toon purple and waiting on a repaint.
