So, the lighting isn't great but big update this evening. Still a little refining to do but I've managed to get the upper spine mod done.
As a result, ironhide has much better head clearance from the chest and no paddle board behind his head :)

You do very good work. Make sure you take plenty of pics without paint and also beside a unmodded Ironhide. I look forward to more updates.

That looks great! Will these pieces be available on Shapeways or other method?

Ironhide and Ratchet now have their replacement spines in.
Really happy with the way this worked out.
This part of the design was tricky because I was trying to incorporate a way to get rid of the paddle board behind the head. And, I finally achieved it :)
The board can now be flipped up or down as desired.
So, here are some pictures with better lighting. And a pic showing the board behind the head.
These figures are still fully transformable. No parts forming :)

I must have these as I still consider them my main chug Ironhide and Ratchet figures!!!!!!!! You did a very awesome job at fixing an issue that Hasbro didn't do from the start. Really great job man!!!

Thats some great work..you've managed to polish this turd of a mold....wish hasbro had of did it properly.

I don't mean to high jack your thread with a couple of pics of my modded Ironhide.....if you want to make him a little skinnier you can hide his wheel in his back section with a slight tweek to his transformation.

    More the merrier :)
I don't mind the hijack. Especially when it's for a good cause.
I think your Ironhide looks really neat. So, did you have to do anything special to get the wheels to sit back there or is it just the standard rotation?
Also, well done on the hand mod. That was the first thing I fixed on the stock figure. The regular hands are such a bad design.

I'm looking into the best option for making these available.
So, I will let everyone know when I figure something out.
Shapeways will be very expensive for the parts but allows cheaper shipping occasionally.
I can print cheaper but I am getting stuck on shipping options. Domestic is ok...around $4 within the US but for international I'm getting $21 for most destinations...which is just ridiculous.
If anyone has any bright ideas for reducing shipping cost both domestic and international, let me know.

I've always liked this mold, and you've only made it even better! Special kudos for experimenting on the Henkei versions, that can't have been easy on your nerves!

Lol. You're right there. Near enough my whole collection is the Takara versions. I always figured they cost so much that I'd never want to modify them. But then one day I just figured, what the heck! The figure doesn't look the way I want it to. I might as well have what I want. So, I went for it.
I got some solid experience first though. So, it was more of a calculated risk :)

    Thanks for the feedback :)

Nah there was nothing special I had to do to spin the wheels I recall, Its part of the standard rotation,
Yep I hated the hands as well, I sacrificed a Beast Hunters Wheeljack for a better cause..:D :D :D
Also I put the head on a ball joint...

My biggest problem with this figure has always been how hunched over and short it is. You sir, have fixed all my problems. Thank you. I plan to buy this once you make it available for purchase.

Well, after an awesome suggestion from Tabiasprime, here is Ratchet with his wheels tucked inside the backpack.
I think my work here is now done....well, almost.
Still some paint to add and I'm thinking rather than do a complete new shoulder panel (which looks like it might be a bit of a pain), I might try some simple screw covers instead.

Man I'm feeling your love for the Classics. These are some great mods that really clean up the bot modes. As for availability, I'm good to go being in the US, but maybe throw it up on Shapeways for the international peeps to balance the shipping cost.

This and your Classics Optimus mods are a welcomed service to the community :)

I'm definitely looking forward to your next update. You've made me a believer that this mode can be saved and in fact very likable as a chud mode again. If you happen to be selling a kit I'm in..

    Thanks everyone.
The next update will be for paint.
After looking at the mould for a while the other day, I decided against any change to the shoulder panels due to clearance issues when it is tucked away in vehicle mode (causing an issue for screw caps). And, I just don't think much value will come from a complete redesign.
So, aside from paint, these 2 figures are pretty much done.

If anyone is interested in ordering a set, just email me at [email protected]. I will be posting a video up on my facebook page soon (link below) showing how to install.
Current price for the set is $15 + shipping. This doesn't include the laser pistols which are $2 each.
I've worked out a way to get better shipping rates. But I haven't put it into practice yet. So, for international shipments, this should improve the cost.

I will most definitely order a set come next paycheck! Now 15 is the price for both Ratchet and Ironhide correct?
